Europe as commonly thought of in the US is "western Europe", IE The UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain, plus Russia. Give our education system some credit, we generally know the major colonial powers that settled north America plus Germany and Italy, and of course Russia has been a longstanding opponent of the US so folks know it.

Now, between Germany and Russia... might as well be a blank map area. In fairness to many Americans, up until the late 1980s the way the Soviet Union ran the Warsaw Pact there really wasn't much distinction from East Germany to Russia... it was all "Soviet Bloc" to the US.

The great irony in this phrase is that the mentioned stupid thing was specifically a form of USA "not interfering and minding its own business" rather than telling the Soviets to give up territories under the threat of nuclear weapons.
This is a crippling contradiction for the whole argument that USA should be isolationist because it does retarded things in foreign policy sometimes. Often the isolationist option is very much the dumb option to take.

Honestly, I have no idea what goes through the heads of these toy manufacturers, when their products (which are supposed to be soft and kid-friendly) turn out to be eye-wideningly grotesque. Makes me wonder what kids see in them, too, at least until they grow up and find out what the freaking out is about.
