Gate: Thus The Empire Got Nowhere In Galactica’s Museum Pod

Disclaimer: I don't own Battlestar Galactica or Gate.

Chapter 1

“Cylons have boarded the Museum, Cylons have boarded the Museum, help me. Aggh Aggh,” There was a thud and crashing noises and the unmistakable sound of flames and roars over the intercom as Colonel Tigh was just about to rip into Flattop again.

“Actions Stations, Action Stations, Set Condition One throughout the Ship. We have been boarded in the Starboard Flight Pod by Cylons. Seal that area off.” Colonel Tigh ordered quickly through the intercom before turning to Flattop, “Lieutenant get to your bird, it’s your lucky day.”

Flattop didn’t need to be told twice and frakked off in haste.

“Dee send a signal to Fleet that we have been attacked by Cylons and require immediate support.”

“Report!” Commander Adama yelled as he came running in with just his jogging gear.

“Sir, Apollo is on approach, asks if we want him to cover the Starboard Pod,” Cutting off Colonel Tigh’s report.

“Punch me through,” Adama ordered as he picked up the phone as Mr. Gaeta rushed in and hopped into his chair.

“Set,” Dee announced as she continued her work.

“Galactica Actual to Apollo, get eyes on my pod and weapons free, Dipper will be joining you with friends and Boomer and Helo are coming up now.”

“Rodger Galactica Actual, moving in.”

“Boomer and Helo report 2 minutes out, Calliope and Callista report they will be jumping in momentarily.” Dee reported as she patched reports through.

“Dipper get your birds in the air now,” Tigh ordered over another phone.

“Colonial Transponders, Adamant-class Frigates Calliope and Callista have arrived,” Gaeta announced.

“Galactica Actual, Apollo here,” Lee spoke over the intercom, “If these are Cylons, they downgraded substantially. Pull up my vid feed, you need to see this.”

“Colonial Transponders, Adamant Frigates Hightower and Veracity have just jumped in.” Gaeta announced.

“Dipper just launched with his squadron.” Tigh called out while the video feed came up.

“The Frak?” Adama spoke, as he looked at a force in fantasy garb and with fantasy creatures.

“Sergeant Hadrian has her teams at the pod entrances, only the flight deck is currently in enemy hands, the Chief sealed all the hatches and reports a team lead by Prosna with Specialist Cally, Seelix, and Socinus was on the deck, he wants to go get his kids.” Tigh reported as he pulled out printouts of the pod.

“Denied, have the Chief head to the flight pod and prep for the inbound Marine Teams.”

“Colonial Transponders, Adamant Frigates Clearwater and Bellerophon have arrived with 3 marine transports.” Lt. Gaeta announced.

“Have them form up on four points formation 4B and clear the Marine Transports to dock. Execute.”

“Colonial Transponder! Minotaur Gunships Xerxes and Achilles have arrived.”

………………………………….

Legate Armandus Longinus of the Saderan Empire milled around in confusion. While the two captured females were stripped and bound for transport and his officers tried to get follow on forces to halt their advance, he tried to make sense of where he was.

He was in some sort of metal hall, with strange exhibits, and a large glass window directly front with a metal bird of some sort visible, and another at the back behind the open gate. There was a glassed balcony of sorts above where he saw strangely armored men in black surrounding a man in a dark blue outfit who was looking around while holding something in his hands. And attempts to pierce the glass by the Wyverns had failed, so he ordered them out for now.

“Bring me the captives,” Armandus ordered, resolved to get some answers.

Both were swiftly brought to him and forced to kneel with faces to the ground in front of him before he spoke to them. “I am Legatus Armandus Longinus of the Saderan Empire. What is this place and who is its lord?”

Both females looked at him in confusion before turning to each other in confused looks and exchanging words in a language he did not recognize. So Armandus repeated his words in Algunan.

The shorter female with cropped brunette hair spoke up this time. “This is the Battlestar Galactica of the 12 Colonies of Kobol. If you’re smart, you’ll surrender before Commander Adama vents the atmosphere in this museum pod and you all suffocate to death.” She promptly spat on the ground in front of him.

“Release them, I want them to ferry a message from me to this Adama, and bring forth my new rabbit concubine.” Armandus spoke as he beckoned his scribe forward and switched to Algunan for the women. “I am releasing you to deliver a message from me to your lord. I am also gifting him my new rabbit concubine. She is still a virgin as I have not had an opportunity to break her in yet.”

The brunette raised her left eyebrow and spoke to her companion as Armandus dictated his letter and his rabbit concubine was brought up. As soon as his letter was written in Algunan, he sealed it. “Vexilifer Caenus, escort these women to that door over there and Tribunes Karwan and Makon, clear space from that door now.”

It took several minutes for the troops to be put in order, but order they were put in. Caenus got the females up to the, well what he assumed was a sally port and waved his flag up at the glass to signal the Colonials while the brunette also waved the letter he gave her. In moments, two black clad men appeared through the sally port and took a knee with some sort of crossbow(?) with boxes on the bottom and a dark blue uniformed man with something held up in his hand pointing at the ceiling waved the females in before looking around and calling for his escorts to fall back through the sally port.

“Now we wait.” Armandus informed his staff officers who started to surround him. “Till then order all follow on forces to halt and I want just a Legion and several of our support mages here. We will make a show of force, but I can see this expedition has become a failure. We have no room to maneuver and the view from the glass according to our scouts shows we are in a void of some sort and this is a void ship. We are now in face saving mode.”

AN: A little teaser for what is to come. The Cylon attack will still happen on schedule, but more survivors will make it out and Galactica will have a proper Battlestar Group.

Poor saderans.Poor Cylons, what they should do with other humans ? and demihumans? And poor Adama, what would he do with virgin bunny concubine?

P.S would Galactica be connected with Sadera? if so,they could conqer saderan and evacuate all people there, after that blown up Galactica.Cylons could not follow them.

Rabbit gets freed and Cmdr. Adama has nothing further to do with her. He doesn't even meet with her. Why would he? He has bigger things to do. He delegates that matter to Colonel Tigh.

As for Colonial Conquest of Saderan, bigger worries and other things to do other than evacuation of civilians to there along with equipment to industrialize it while Galactica sails away from it to lead the Cylons off from its location till it can build its own Space Fleet.

Nope, as soon as Doc Cottle clears Rabbit, she is put on a shuttle to the Caprican Federal Police and the Colonial Military washes its hands of her. As far as they are concerned, she is the Civilian Government's problem, not theirs.

Poor thing.she would die with rest of colonials then.Well, not important.

You said, that they evacuate part of cyvilians to Sadera ,and Galactica run after that to hide their location from Cylons. Is it even possible? there were many Cylons spies on Galactica,so they would knew eventually.
What would be their reaction? do they feel urge to conqer Sadera and kill all humans there ?

Precisely, because Colonial Military Regulations forbid human trafficking and slavery is banned in the Colonies under the Articles of Colonization. Rabbit is a civilian by law and under that law, she is classified as a victim of human trafficking, so she will be turned over to the police who will in turn place her in a shelter till the Colonial Government figures out what to do with her.

Her fate is the least of Adama's concerns.

The Gate by default cancels Galactica's decommissioning so she won't be emptying her ammo or sending off her Air Wing, and the Adamants have yet to get the CNP for themselves and their fighters. Both Minotaurs also don't have the CNP.

As for Cylon spies, Sadera is way outside Resurrection Range and civilians won't be able to pass back once through per agreement with the Saderan Empire that Colonials are resettled permanently as citizens of the Empire in exchange for the Empire providing troops to keep the Fleet in action, otherwise the Empire simply shuts off the Gate because the Emperor in this fic isn't so stupid as to not put a damn remote kill switch on the Gate. Also the Gods of Sadera in general don't want their worshippers nuked. Also Sadera is clear on the other side of the Galaxy and the Cylons could literally spend centuries looking for them.

So for practical reasons, the Cylons can't locate the world where the Gate originated and just follow Adama around trying to finish him off.

Colonel Tigh walked into med bay, raised an eyebrow at the rabbit eared girl that was having an iron collar removed by Sergeant Hadrian while she talked to her.

“Sergeant, what can you tell me about her?”

“Well Colonel, her name is Mairan, she is 14 years old, and speaks in Archaic Celtan. She was a slave and supposed to be a concubine to a Legatus Armandus who apparently decided to gift her to the Commander.” Galactica’s Master of Arms spoke as she removed the unlocked collar and dumped it in the trash.

“I see, as soon as the Doc clears her, send her to the Caprican Federal Police as a Human Trafficking Victim and let them figure out what to do with her. Boomer and Helo are prepping a Raptor as we speak. So give her over to them.” Colonel Tigh ordered before going to Specialist Henderson and Seelix who saluted him.

“As you were, as soon as the Doc clears you, you’ll be placed on medical leave. Given the circumstances, Galactica’s decommissioning is suspended indefinitely. But you will be discharged on time unless you want to re-up. That said, the Commander wanted me to ensure you are alright before he decides to vent the museum pod.”

“They killed Prosna and Socinus and tried to rape us, vent the mother frakkers!” Cally spat.

“And cut their dicks off afterwards and send them back through that gate. They will think twice before attacking our ship again.” Seelix added.

“Good to see your spirits are up, but final call might not be the Commander’s to make. We are currently enroute to rendezvous with the Presidential Envoy who is now doing the initial talks with these boarders. But if things go south, rest assured the Commander will vent them to vacuum.”

……………….

Commander Adama put his phone down, “Mr. Gaeta, have the formation turn 30 degrees to port to pick up the Secretary of Education.”

“Yes sir.”

Turning to the DRADIS, Adama watched the Colonial Government Transport approach for docking. This was how Colonel Tigh found him when he returned to CIC.

“Commander, Specialist Henderson and Seelix are alright, the rabbit girl will be turned over to the Caprican Federal Police as a human trafficking victim per policy.”

“Thank you Colonel, to think a world still practices sex slavery. But it isn’t our concern. Secretary Roslin will begin diplomatic contact with these Saderans. President thinks they might be the 13th Tribe or descended from them.”

“Not too late to claim containment failure and vent them Bill.”

“Don’t tempt me Saul, but from his letter, it appears these Saderans were expecting to find a virgin world similar to their own to conquer and colonize.”

“Well they should fire whoever navigated the Gate to our museum pod, he sucks at navigation; imagine if they had done it on our Portside.”

“That would have been a lot of unnecessary paperwork for spaced bodies plus all the safety inspections and recerts.”

“Sirs, Colonial Heavy 798 is on final approach and will dock in 30 minutes. Also fleet wants us to head to Ragnar Anchorage. They want to reactivate Daidalos as the main processing area. 2 Atlas-class Supercarriers will jump ahead of us to there, carrying additional staff.” Lt. Gaeta announced as he handed over the dock request form and the orders from the Admiralty for Commander Adama’s signature.

“Very well, XO, set us a course to Ragnar, I am going to put on my Dress Uniform and meet the Secretary and initiate the Diplomatic Proceedings, You will have the Conn.”

“Very well Commander, I have the Conn.”

……………

Aaron Doral gasped for breath as he resurrected.

“Brother you…”

“Call off the attack! Call it off!”

“It’s too late; the attack units are on silence mode. Too many assets are moving. It is the will of the one true god. Trust the plan. Trust god.” The 3 model serving as a nurse reassured him lovingly.

…………………………

Apostle Rory looked up in confusion; she thought she just felt some person tell another to trust in her. She then began to grin. Looking over Alnus, she became confused again, what was this mess? Weren’t they marching to conquer a new world today?

Skipping up to a trooper who was carrying a dispatch case, she waved cutely at the soldier. “Yoo hoo, will you be so kind as to tell me what is going on?”

The messenger skidded to a halt and paled upon looking at her. “Ror… I mean Lady Rory Mercury, greetings Apostle of Emroy and protector of the people. Our expedition has failed. We somehow opened the Gate into a ship of sorts that sails a black void. I am ordering the follow on units to make camp while the Wyvern Corps delivers a report to the Emperor.”

Cutely placing her left index finger at the corner of her mouth while hefting her axe over her right shoulder, Rory responded, "Interesting, I think I will see this void ship myself.”

“Do you wish an escort my Lady?”

Rory shook her head, “Not necessary, everyone here knows me.” She grinned menacingly, “Those who don’t will get harvested.”

……………………….

Adama stared at the body of the Public Relations Liaison then turned to look at Sergeant Hadrian and a fireteam of Marines, “You’re telling me he just pulled the fireaxe, rammed it into the bulkhead and then rammed his head into it?”

“Yes Commander, I can’t even begin to comprehend why. I mean he took my firm refusal to let him interview the rabbit quite well. I mean I don’t know…” Hadrian became lost for words.

“Whatever, I got bigger things to worry about, fill out a 2048SE form on him and have the Doc sign it and get this body off my deck.” Adama ordered before moving on to greet the Secretary of Education.

“Commander Adama, I am Colonel Mackron of the Colonial Marine Corps, I was to report to you.” A Colonial Marine Officer announced as he came up.

“Excellent Colonel, you will immediately take your staff and re-activate the Marine Operations Room, Sergeant Hadrian, CMR, is my current Master-at-Arms, she will assist you.”

“Copy that sir, WILCO.” The Colonel moved on while Adama proceeded to the Conference Room where Captain Kelly saluted him.

“The Secretary is here as ordered sir.”

“Thank you Captain, resume your post, we got a lot of things to do yet.” Adama ordered before turning to the Secretary. “Madame Secretary, I am Commander Adama. So far other than a letter and slave given to me as a gift who will be placed on the next Raptor run to the Caprican Police, we have had no contact. They speak in an Archaic Aerilonian language. My instructions were to escort you to meet with their Expedition Leader Armandus Longinus and determine the means by which they wound up in the museum and its ability to be replicated. Plus if they are the 13th Tribe.”

Education Secretary Laura Roslin smiled before speaking, “Well this is most certainly interesting. I take it the decommissioning is now totally off the table?”

“Yes, we are enroute to the soon to be recommissioned Daidalos.”

“Well, fair warning, I was tasked with this assignment before my resignation and assignment as Curator. Now that its changed, no doubt Adar will simply name me ambassador. Suppose it’s a better way of exile. But enough of that, let’s get this done, and hopefully I can give you back your museum pod and make you less grumpy.”

“I’m not grumpy, just annoyed. I run an organized and safe, if not tight ship, and 2 of my men were murdered. Imagine if they had opened that Gate in a crowded city, and the causalities they could have inflicted before we could have responded.” Adama replied as he moved to the hatch. “Let’s go then.”

……………

Armandus trembled in fear as Rory Mercury skipped up to him with a smile on her face. “Hello, how are you today? When I heard about where you wound up, I decided I just had to see for myself.”

“Lady Mercury…”

“Enough of that, you can call me Rory. We are friends aren’t we?” Rory stated with a smile, closed eyes, and her halberd to Armandus’ neck.

“Yes Rory, we’re friends, whatever you need will be made available.”

“Excellent, have the people here made any contact with you?” Rory asked as she turned business like while dismissing her halberd with a flick.

“Very little, I have exchanged a letter and a good will gift. Now I am waiting for them to treat with me.” Armandus reported.

“Ok,” Rory airily waved her hand, “I will be examining that metal bird over there that looks similar to the one hovering past that glass.”

Armandus watched her skip over to one of the metal birds and breathed a sigh of relief as she started hopping all over it in curiosity. For a moment he thought the Gods had decided to punish them after all for disregarding Hardy’s warning.

“Attention Legatus Armandus Longinus! Attention Legatus Armandus Longinus! Commander William Adama and Secretary of Education Laura Roslin will meet with you now!” A loud announcement sounded from nowhere.

Within moments a sally port opened and 24 men in the black armor and strange crossbows(?) came down and took covering positions followed by 12 bannermen wielding 12 different banners. Behind them came a middle aged man flanked by a middle aged woman he guessed was his wife, and they were in turn followed by 4 black armored men and a bannerman holding what he assumed to be the Commander’s personal colors.

Immediately his sole Legion came to attention. The Colonial Delegation came to a halt midway to them. Rory for her part simply sat on the metal bird and watched in interest. As for himself, Armandus proceeded with his Aquilifer, Chief Mage, and four Lictors.

“Greetings Commander Adama and Lady Adama, I am Legatus Armandus…”

“We aren’t married, I am Secretary of Education Laura Roslin, the Senior Colonial Government Representative aboard Galactica.” The middle age lady interrupted Armandus. “But do go on.”

Armandus raised an eyebrow, not unheard of, but rare, though why would a Secretary have governing power? “My apologies Secretary Roslin, I was tasked by Emperor Molt Sol Augustus with conquering a new virgin world, somehow we wound up on your vessel.”

“You’re lucky you entered this pod, had you opened the gate on the portside pod, you would have all walked into the vacuum of space unprotected and died in seconds. Which would have annoyed me greatly as the paperwork would have been onerous.” Commander Adama spoke.

“I see,” Armandus agreed. “In any event we hit an impasse. My remit doesn’t allow me to promise anything and I sent word to the Emperor requesting an Emissary be sent. Nor can I speak for the Gods of my world. And the Apostle of Emroy,” Armandus pointed to Rory, “Can only speak for Emroy.”

“Talking about me?” Rory asked as she appeared next to Armandus in an instant. Bent slightly at the waist with hands behind her back and a smile on her face while everyone else but Adama reacted in shock. Adama merely raised an eyebrow.

“As I was saying, this is Rory Mercury, Apostle of Emroy.”

“Pleased to meet you all, but what I want to know is how do you open up your metal bird? I want to sit in it.” The last part Rory whined pitifully.

Adama raised an eyebrow, walked over to the metal bird and pulled on something which caused the glass canopy to raise.

“Whoo hoo,” Rory exclaimed before jumping into the seat.

“Well, why don’t we begin.” Laura offered.

…………………….

Captain Lee Adama let the deckhand of the Calliope undo his hard collar. With the changed situation, he was redirected to this Adamant Frigate and to assume the post of CAG as Major Indigo had taken Hardship Leave and Captain Bears had her flight status pulled due to pregnancy.

“Welcome aboard Calliope, Apollo, I am CPO Kendricks. I will be your Deck Chief for your stay.” A man in his mid-30s greeted him.

“Good to meet you, can you summon all available pilots to the Ready Room please. I need to do a count and debrief them.” Lee ordered as he went to the pilot ready room.

“Certainly sir, I will gather them for you.”

…………………

Laura Roslin with Billy and Elosha enjoyed a meal with the Apostle and the Saderan Delegation aboard Colonial Heavy 798 with the Press present. Commander Adama had turned negotiations over to her and she had moved them to a conference room aboard her chartered ship enroute to Caprica with an escort of the Calliope and its air wing. The Legatus had departed with his Legion through the Gate to report to the Emperor, leaving his Chief Mage, a Tribune and 2 Lictors to do the initial diplomacy. Adama had been glad just to get back full control of his ship and be rid of the hyperactive Apostle whose demonstration of her regenerative capability, ability to wield a halberd that took 6 fully grown Marines to lift, and age confirmed by Doc Cottle convinced all she was a demi-god.

“Yuum. Is it possible I could get a case of this ice cream to take back with me?” Rory asked as she took another bite of her chocolate ice cream.

Laura smiled, “Certainly, I will arrange for a freezer container as well as a recipe to make your own.”

“Thank you.” Rory replied as she ate more ice cream. “I must say Elosha, the fact your gods fought each other to the point you had to abandon Kobol is just hilarious. Though we have our differences, we never would go so far as to wreck our world; it would leave us without worshippers.”

“War amongst the Lords was not their doing, but of the one jealous god who was driven off. However, they could no longer take physical form afterwards and with their withdrawal from Kobol, we were forced to take the Galleon to these 12 worlds. But if as you say the gods still cling to you of the 13th, we will gladly welcome you to our Colonies. It has been 2,000 years since any Lord has walked amongst us.”

Rory lowered her eyes and her head in sadness. “We are tied to our worlds, once our bond with it is broken, we lose our conscious ability to interact with mortals and the world becomes cursed. But if you were able to survive 2,000 years without any gods over you, that is no mean feat mortal. Soon I myself will have to decide where I will dwell when my time to ascend comes in 39 years.”

“Gemenon will gladly welcome you with open arms if you decide to dwell on our world.”

Rory smiled while the cameras rolled, “I would like that, but first I must see these other worlds and my fellow 11 Apostles would also want to see for themselves your worlds.”

……………..

Commander Adama looked up from the sheet Mr. Gaeta gave him and caught Colonel Tigh’s attention and handed him the sheet, “Virgon’s Royal Squadron has raised anchor and will await us at Daidalos with 3 Janus and 7 Berzerks. The King of Virgon will be the first Ambassador to the Saderan Empire. And we both were promoted. The king will pin our new ranks on when we arrive at Daidalos. I will command the Daidalos military command charged with security of the Gate and protecting its economic and military potential. You will take command of Galactica which will be docked to Daidalos.”

Tigh raised an eyebrow, “Things are moving fast, everyone wants in on the action now. Never mind the massive security issue this Gate represents or our two dead men, or if this had opened up in any other place.”

“Indeed. I wonder if we are indeed watched over by a vindictive god who is a bad fanfic writer just looking for kicks?”

“Perish the thought Bill, we were about to retire and hit every bar in Caprica City.” Tigh smirked.

…………………..

Baltar stared at the unmistakable light of a nuclear explosion. His lover, an admitted humanform Cylon stood by him, her words about Humanity’s Children returning today echoing in his mind.

That was great.Would be even better,if Apostles from Sadera were on planets when they get attacked. Some die,but all love to see cylon reactions to them.
No Saderan/colonials war then, only some kind of pact and relocating survivors there.

Gate was about twi things - Japan politics and Itami harem.Japan politics do not matter here, but Itami harem need true colonials man !

Harem man will of course be Doctor Gaius Baltar, emissary of the One True God... I think you can guess how this will go with Falmart's Gods: Read very badly.

But if you're hoping for the Adamas to get in on the action, nope, too busy. They have a war to run, Colonies to liberate, new worlds to settle, Saderan Sailors to train in Void Warfare and prepping them to retake the Colonies.

Chapter 3

“CIC to Commanding Officer.” Gaeta’s voice came over the intercom.

Commander Adama, Colonel Tigh, Colonel Mackron, Tribune Herm Fule Maio of the Empire looked up from their work on securing the Gate and getting a land line over to the Empire instead of reliance on a motorcycle and wyvern courier system.

Being closer, Colonel Mackron picked up the phone and handed it to Adama.

“Go ahead.”

“I’m sorry to disturb you sir, but we have a Priority 1 alert message from Fleet Headquarters. It was transmitted in the clear.”

Adama removed his glasses and answered, “In the clear? What does it say?”

Tigh and Mackron stood straighter as it became clear something truly serious was up while Herm looked on in confusion.

Over the phone Gaeta spoke words Adama hoped to never hear. “Attention all Colonial Units. Cylon attack under way. This is no drill.”

“We’ll be right up.” Adama hung up the phone. “Cylons are back. We’re at war again.”

…………………………..

Laura Roslin came out of the bathroom to see the Captain of the ship finishing an announcement.

Rory was looking out at the Calliope which was launching fighters and had its guns deployed.

Going over to Billy, her aide, Laura inquired of the situation. “What’s going on? Pirates? This close to Caprica?”

“Haven’t you heard?” Billy asked confused.

…………………………….

“Escort formation, check your intervals, Colonial Heavy 798, maintain current course but for frak’s sake, stay out of Calliope’s firing solutions.” Apollo ordered.

“WILCO Apollo, glad to have you watching over us. We may be carrying a demi-god, but from what I seen so far, she is too hyper to be much use.”

“Yeah, I will take your word for it, be ready to maneuver as necessary. Apollo out.”

…………………………….

“Alright Major Spencer, as far as we can tell, Cylons gained surprise, but because of the Gate incident and Colonial Military Bureaucratic inertia, the Air Force was deployed and defenses were active, so we lost roughly 15 Battlestars in the opening moments and another 15 were crippled. Pegasus group lost Admiral Cain in the opening volley as she was enroute to meet with the Admiralty, so that Group is now led from the Nike. They lost the fight over Scorpia and are escorting civilians to Ragnar. So that is a Jupiter, Berzerk, and a Mercury in fighting condition somewhat. The rest of the group was either destroyed in their berths before they could raise anchor or shot down, but 46 of the Auxiliaries were able to jump out with a number of civilians. Admiral Nagala is regrouping at Virgon whose local defense forces have repelled the initial attacks but multiple Cylon Groups are converging on them. Virgon may likely be under Siege soon. Leonis just lost control of its orbitals and is expecting ground landings, Canceron is reporting ground combat, Aerilon and Tauron are making their final stands in the Orbitals, Sagitarron beat off the initial attack, but is being overwhelmed. Gemenon and Caprica are in the balance but the Air Force bought time to get civvies to the shelters. Aquaria is gone, but the population had time to get to the shelters and seal up tight. Libran’s air patrols are still active and the Civilians have gotten to shelters. Picon Fleet Headquarters is gone, and resistance from the Colonial Airforce is waning over Picon, but the ground defenses are still intact and the main civil centers are now going into the shelters. The Outer Colonies have yet to report.” Commander Adama briefed his CAG.

“Which makes our primary mission now to secure Caprican Airspace and get Valkyrie and Yashuman in the fight.” Spencer deduced.

“Indeed.” Adama informed his CAG as Mr. Gaeta came up with another printout while Colonel Tigh spoke with the Commander of the Callista and Herm stood out of the way and watched the CIC work.

Reading it, Adama handed it to Colonel Tigh. “So the frakking idiot Adar is dead along with most others of the Cabinet and Quorum of 12. That makes King Stefan II, King of Virgon, President of the 12 Colonies as the only Quorum of 12 member still alive.” Tigh spoke.

“He wants Laura Roslin protected as the only other Cabinet Member still accounted for. Nagala has agreed. Stefan will be joining us to consult on our counter-attack.” Adama added while Mr. Gaeta updated the plotting table.

“I take it this is where I depart?” Dipper asked.

“Not in your birds, too many equipment failures. Till the CNPs are pulled, take the Mk IIs. And Dipper, don’t wreck my bird, Chief went through a lot of trouble restoring it. I still hope for my son to fly it some day.”

“Understood sir, and thank you for the honor.” Dipper saluted and left.

…………………………………..

“Boomer, we got multiple Cylons around Caprica engaging the Colonial Airforce.”

Mairan’s ears flicked at the man’s words though she couldn’t understand what he was saying, she could hear the fear in his voice.

“Radiological Alarms! They’re launching nukes!”

“Helo we got massive jamming. Contact Galactica and secure our passenger.”

Helo turned to face Mairan and pushed her back in her seat and buckled her in and handed her a helmet similar to his and put a hard collar on her and attached a hose to it. “Sit tight, we’ll get you to safety.”

“What is going on?” Mairan asked.

Helo’s reply was to just plop the helmet on her head, squishing her ears down the sides of her head before hopping back into his seat and buckling in. “Boomer, Valkyrie and Yashuman are ahead, but not responding, Colonial Air Force assets currently engaging Cylons around them and its air wing.”

Mairan stared ahead towards the front at the giant ball ahead and the flashes of lights around it while controlling her breathing as a sense of claustrophobia hit her. Not being able to freely move her ears and shed heat via them also caused her to become flushed, and she started to have vertigo as Boomer began kicking into burn. If Doc Cottle were present to monitor her and draw conclusions, he would determine that due to rabbit physiology and helmet designs, rabbits were automatically medically disqualified to fly Colonial Strikecraft.

“Report from Colonial Airforce, multiple Cylon Baseships over Caprica, multiple nuclear detonations, Fleet Assets suffered multiple failures upon contact. Colonial Army and Airforce currently engaging Cylons, losing ground.” Boomer reported.

“Galactica wants us to assist Valkyrie and Yashuman till they can reboot Boomer; they are coming to our location at full steam.” Helo spoke.

“Buckle up then,” Boomer replied as she activated decoy pods and tracers between Colonial and Cylon Birds could be seen.

Mairan fought the impulse to retch, and tried to control her breathing. Helo was unable to help her at the moment, too busy helping the Colonial Airforce cover Valkyrie and Yashuman while the Pericles exploded. Higher in the orbitals, the Jupiter Mk 3 Androcles succumbed to 14 nuclear warheads and cracked in 4 places.

Then ordinance began exploding around them, the inertial compensators added to them to enable extreme g turns causing massive gravitic shock waves in space as they gave out from the detonations. This sent Mairan over then edge and she dry heaved, the fact she hadn’t eaten or drank anything recently saving her life, then she passed out.

Taking a moment to read the latest report, Adama addressed everyone in the room. “Admiral Nagala is dead, he was assassinated by a Cylon Agent 20 minutes ago. Several Cylon Agents also struck the command crews of Columbia, Triton, Solaria, and the list goes on.”

“Sir, the King of Virgon’s Raptor is enroute, his Royal Squadron of 3 Janus Heavy Cruisers and an Atlas Carrier are forming up with the Battlegroup.” Gaeta informed Adama.

“Clear him,” Adama ordered before turning to Dee, “Petty Officer Dualla, send to all units and civilian ships. I am taking command of Fleet; all unengaged Colonial FTL Ships to rally at Ragnar for regrouping and counter-attack. All civilians capable of jumping are to go to Ragnar for shelter. STL Ships are to do their best. Adama. Execute message.”

“Valkyrie and Yashuman report partial power restoration and engines online, they are moving to Calliope which is reporting they are moving to gather up a clutch of Civilians. Several reserve squadrons from the 90th Reserve Wing were able to get up in their Mk 7s and Raptors and are now escorting them along with multiple civilian ships; many of those civilian ships have armaments. They even recovered the crews from the disabled Valkyrie and Yashuman Vipers.” Gaeta reported as he brought up Boomer and Helo’s forwarded report before returning to Dee.

“Very well, maintain our present course and have teams ready to assist Valkyrie and Yashuman to get their FTLs online. We aren’t throwing away two good Battlestars if we don’t have to.” Adama ordered.

“Sir General Howards of the 2nd Colonial Army states he fully controls the Metris Continent and the Remnants of the Air Force are congregating with him. There are isolated units around Caprica and he is attempting to get them and evacuate civilians.” Gaeta announced as he came up with another printout.

“Commander, while I can’t order the Emperor’s troops into combat to assist you, my own household troops and the mercenaries I hired can be sent into combat on my own authority. That will be 54 horsemen, 160 sellswords, and 300 orcs. The orcs are only good for digging and meat shields in shock actions, but the sellswords are a disciplined lot.” Herm spoke up.

“If you’re offering, I won’t turn it down. Give the orders, I will see them transferred.” Adama accepted as he handed the phone to Herm and walked him through to call his message rider in the pod.

For the next 20 minutes reports came in before the Marine Guards announced the arrival of the President of the 12 Colonies who came in with 8 of his Ceremonial Royal Guards and his 24 year-old grandson, Crown Prince Andrew III.

“Your Majesty and Mr. President, welcome aboard.” Adama greeted the King of Virgon and the President of the Colonies.

“Was planning on doing this later, but no time like the present Admiral Adama,” King Stefan II replied as he approached with admiral pins and pinned them on before handing the commander pins to Colonel Tigh. “Now let’s get to the task of retaking the Colonies.”

Princess Pina Colada and Bozes Co Palesti stared in confusion at the Gate Expeditionary Force just milling about. Shandy Gaff Marea was crying about her lost hawk, the reason they were out here in the first place.

“Princess? I didn’t know you were hawking out here.” Marquis Calasta greeted her as he rode up in his regalia depicting his rank.

“Why is the expedition sitting around with its thumb up their ass? I knew you were incompetent when I kicked you out of the order, but this is a whole other level.” Pina spoke as she adjusted Shandy’s arm so her hawk could land on it, all without even looking at her subordinate knight.

“We opened the Gate unto a massive void ship that sails the void. We had no room to maneuver and we appeared to have stumbled into a large scale war. The Legatus has gone to report to the Emperor.”

Pina raised an eyebrow as the rest of the Rose Order rode up while Shandy was busy trying to placate her hawk. None of them were in armor as they were hawking. “Are you joking?”

“Lady Rory thought the same and saw for herself, she is currently traveling with our emissary.”

“The Apostle went through the Gate?”

“Indeed your highness. We are trying to get diplomatic relations going right now.”

“Rose Knights, follow me, we are going to talk to…” Pina snapped her fingers at her former subordinate.

“12 Colonies of Kobol your Highness,” Calasta provided.

“Right, we will talk to these 12 Colonies of Kobol.”

“My Lady, you may be the Emperor’s daughter, but you may not just make a treaty without consulting with your father.” Grey spoke up.

“I’m well aware of that Sir Grey, but if the Apostle of Emroy was pulled into this, I want to see what was discovered. My mind is made up, Calasta introduce us to these Colonials.”

……………………………………

“Broken Formation Razzle Dazzle, don’t let them use their targeting computers and for frak’s sake, stay out of the Calliope’s firing solution.” Apollo warned as 260 Cylon Raiders approached his 80 Vipers and 20 Raptors. Dipper was 20 minutes out, Valkyrie group 50 minutes out. This fight was his. Thumbing the pickle button as the Raptors opened up with missile and gun pods, he splashed one Raider and turned to keep them away from the civilians.

………………………..

Rory used the binoculars she had to look out at the battle in the distance as Cylon and Colonial tracers crossed each other. Behind her Laura was helping people rescued from Gemenon Liner 1701.

“Lady Rory, the Colonials are outnumbered, I already saw two of their fighters shot down.” Chief Mage Oranius Pius spoke, using his far sight to observe the battle.

“Perhaps, but they and the Calliope are all that stand between us and a fiery fate. And I would rather not float for a few decades in the void before I ascend.” Rory informed him as she watched one fighter in particular. “Oranius, the fighter with the Apollo nameplate, do you sense anything different about him? There is a slight thread on him that so far I have not seen on others in this realm.”

“Hmm, yes, it is faint. But surely there are better specimens to anchor to?”

Rory smiled in a slightly sadistic way, “Perhaps, but till another comes along, I think I will work on this one. He is of age to live to see me ascend and if I want a world of my own to be the god of, I will need a mortal anchor to preach my name.”

Oranius looked at her. “Surely you don’t plan to spirit dive into that fight. What if you spook him?”

Rory airily waved the concern off, “It will be fine, besides it spares me those 3’s prattling.” Rory indicated the Tribune and 2 Lictors animatedly discussing the battle next to them.

………………………..

“This is the Adriatic to Colonial Forces, don’t ask, but we got short range missiles and guns, where do you need us.”

“Adriatic, this is Apollo, go to channel 9, stay off this freq.” Apollo replied as he blew away another Raider and rolled into the attack against another.

“Apollo, this Calliope, Adriatic moving to cover low against leakers. Another armed vessel, the Mako is coming up to guard the unarmed ships and 6 Mk VIIs on a training patrol are joining the party.”

“Rodger Calliope, several more Raiders just jumped in. We’re low on ammo.” Apollo responded.

“Dipper is 4 minutes out.”

“Gods, it is not my day.” Lee spoke under his breath as he got into a frontal engagement with a Raider, blowing it away as his right wing in turn was blown away. Alarms blared as he fought the controls and went into a spin, using RCS, he righted the bird and blew away another raider. Looking out, he could see the remaining Raiders break off and jump away.

“That was amazing Apollo.”

“What the frak!” Apollo freaked out as a child appeared on the nose of his fighter, laid down with her head and upper chest lifted and head supported on her arms and hands.

The child airily waved at him, “I know this isn’t the best of times, but you unlike the others I met in this realm have a unique anchoring point that a young Goddess like myself could use to anchor to a new realm. So I will take you as my mortal husband.”

“Apollo, Dipper here, is that the demi-goddess that came with the Saderans on your nose.” Dipper spoke as he came up with Galactica’s attack squadron, breaking up the moment.

“Wait, god…”

Apollo was cut off as Rory kissed him through the canopy and his helmet, her spirit dive enabling her to simply phase through all barriers and still assume some shape.

“Wow Apollo, you sure like them young, but you still broke your bird,” Starbuck teased as she came up and waved from her Viper.

A swirly eyed Mairan was placed on a stretcher the moment Helo and Boomer transferred her to the Cloud 12 that had joined the growing convoy around BSG-75.

That done, the 2 focused on refueling/rearming aboard the Callista, and then finding other civilian ships while Valkyrie and Yashuman had their FTLs and whatever else fixed by several Flattops. As soon as an unarmed civilian ship checked in and had good FTL, it was jumped to Ragnar. Armed FTL Civilian Ships stuck around still. STL Civilians were getting organized around armed civilian ships which would aide their trip to Ragnar. Colonial Military Raptors, fast couriers, and message drones delivered reports. Majority of the Battlestar Fleet had been destroyed. 20 Battlestars remained, 15 of those were around Virgon, 2 enroute to Ragnar, and 3 here. Most resistance was from the Colonial Army and Airforce. The minor colonies had either fallen or been bypassed. Transports carrying Mercenary Troops from the Saderan Army had left for Caprica an hour ago and though dire, it looked like they would soon be counter-attacking. All of this Helo and Boomer processed as they worked their multiple jobs.

“Helo and Boomer, this is Galactica, return home to pick up a Saderan Military Delegation for transfer to Virgon.”

“Rodger Galactica,” Helo answered for them. There a blip across his HUD integrated into his helmet, notifying him to access his console for his eyes only message. Going to his console, he put in his security code.

Immediately he saw a folder directly from Admiral Adama on confirmed Cylon assassination agents in the fleet. The Press Officer he seen around Galactica was one, but what he saw next chilled him to his core, and it became clear what he needed to do even without the blinking order to terminate the threat. Getting up, he walked forward emotionlessly.

“Helo, we will be docking…”

Sharon fell forward as Helo’s round entered her head. “Galactica, this is Helo, the threat has been neutralized, permission to dump this machine into space.”

“Helo, this is Galactica Actual,” Commander Tigh’s voice came over the wire, “Dump the trash and then continue your landing. The Saderan Delegation will be through the Gate soon. So come to the War Room once you land for further Briefing.”

“Rodger Galactica, WILCO.”

Helo moved rapidly to perform EVA procedures before dragging the machine to the hatch and throwing it out, down relative to the fleet and far from its sight. Sitting in the pilot seat, Helo began landing prep. A look of complete rage across his face at the betrayal and utter disgust that the Chief who had been fracking her and never said or suspected anything, but that was for the Command Staff to deal with.

………………………

Pina’s first sight of the Colonials was halfway through the gate tunnel as 4 black armored soldiers with strange face masks with hoses to a pack on their back, arrested a strangely clad man in some bulky suit with a transparent face covering working alongside 2 similarly clad men waving around strange devices. A purple clad man came up to them with an Imperial Soldier, both wearing strange helmets. In the distance were strange horseless carriages. The Imperial Soldier saluted her.

“Greetings Princess Pina, I am Count Irgun of Virgon, the King of Virgon and President of the 12 Colonies of Kobol awaits you in the War Room of Galactica.” The Imperial Soldier translated for Count Irgun while the black clads hauled the loudly protesting arrested man away.

“Greetings in turn Lord Irgun, as a representative of my father, the Emperor Molt Sol Augustus, I have come on a fact finding expedition in order to better advise my father.” Pina replied while taking in as much detail as possible.

“We appreciate that, but as you no doubt noticed, we will require you to don rebreathers, the flight pod we will be entering may not be breached right now, but we are currently in a combat zone and till you are in the hull proper, you will need to be guarded against being exposed to vacuum.” The soldier translated as he beckoned them to the carriage.

“Is this why we had to come on foot?” Shandy asked

“Indeed my lady, as Lord Ferm’s mercenaries and household found out as well, that and Galactica is not friendly to horses.”

“Enough, let’s go.” Pina put a stop to all further questions. Removing her circlet and undoing her hair, she began fitting the strange helmet to her head and face. The Imperial Soldier helped her secure it tight to her face before helping the others.

Once set, they went to the carriages which had long benches for them to sit on. Hopping on, they were rapidly transported down the tunnel. Passing through, Pina noted more black clads setting up weapons of some sort by the way they carried them. She also noted four horseless carriages of some sort with what appeared to be long barreled weapon of sort. Possibly a strange ballista(?). Others walked around in the more bulkier type suits as well and several had heavy black metallic suits with integrated weapons of some sort.

“Attention, pod air supply will be vented in 50 minutes and gravity shut off, don necessary gear immediately and activate mag locks.” A strange voice spoke from nowhere.

The carriages came to a sally port of sorts and stopped as it opened. “Follow me your highness.” The Imperial Soldier spoke as he led the way.

“Right, let’s go,” Pina replied as she waved her knights forward before grabbing Shandy who was walking in the wrong direction without even having to look at her.

Once past the door, they found themselves in a small room with another door with the door they entered being shut followed by a ding. “You can remove your breathing gear now ladies and gents.” A black clad man announced in accented Algunan before removing his own.

As Pina and her knights removed their provided gear, the black clad man began opening the other door.

“Your Highness, there is a rest room up here with mirrors and running water if you want to redo your hair before we meet the Admiral Adama and King Stefan II the President of the 12 Colonies.” Lord Irgun offered.

“Thank you Lord Irgun, we will take advantage of it.” Pina graciously accepted the offer.

Lord Irgun spoke to a black clad man who lifted up a small thing hanging from his chest and pressed it before speaking. A moment later he nodded and spoke again before waving them forward. They walked a bit down a strange corridor that looked like it could slide. It was very subtle detail that only strict observance could detect.

There was a loud ding.

“This is the Commander. The Atlas group has reported in, Pallas stands, the Cylons have been driven off by their counter attack. 709th Colonial Army Corps and 208th Colonial Air Force Wing repelled all attacks from the Orbitals. 23,000,000 souls kept safe. Further updates as we get them.”

There was cheering by passing crew as the Imperial Soldier translated for Pina and her knights.

“Your Highness,” Herm called out as he ran up to her before bending over a bit as he caught his breath.

“Viscount Herm, what has you in a hurry?” Pina asked calmly.

“Lady Mercury is enroute; she heard you were coming and wants to discuss matters with you personally before she returns through the Gate to discuss the situation with the Emperor on sheltering Colonial Civilians on our side of the Gate till the Colonial Military secures the Colonies.” Herm gasped out.

“Your Highness, she may be an Apostle, but Lady Rory has no right to order anything on behalf of the Empire.” Bozes reminded.

Side eyeing her, Pina reminded her of a wrinkle with that, “Yeah I’m sure the King of the Gods will agree that Apostle Rory overstepped when I appeal to him in the afterlife and he fines her. It won’t change that I'm dead by that point and can’t resurrect. That being said, let’s make ourselves presentable for the meeting.”

“Lord Herm, can you give us a general ideal of the current situation.” Grey asked in a way that wasn’t actually a request, and that he could get away with due to the high regard the Emperor held him in.

“Certainly,” Herm responded as he walked alongside them. “The 12 Colonies of Kobol consist of 12 main worlds like our own, 45 minor worlds with permanent settlers, several uninhabitable worlds, and numerous stations. Overall they had roughly 31 billion humans as of the last census, an increase of 6 billion people over 40 years after their last war with the Cylons saw 16 billion deaths.”

“You expect us to believe such nonsense?” Bozes snapped.

“Silence Bozes. Continue Viscount Herm,” Pina ordered as she pulled Shandy close to her without looking at her before the easily distracted girl walked into a bulkhead.

“As I was saying, several hours ago, the Cylons returned after 40 years of silence and attacked the Unified 12 Colonies of Kobol. Reports are still coming in, but the bulk of the Colonial Fleet was either destroyed under sail or in their docks. Due to our arrival, we inadvertently caused them to go to a higher state of alert, so what would have been a fatal sneak attack was turned into a grievous blow as their Army and Air Force were able to deploy and enter the fight. Only the Kingdom of Virgon is holding strong out of the main colonies, the rest are under siege. The Free Democratic State of Aquaria has retreated into their deep shelters to wage an underground war. The Unified Republics of Canceron is waging planet wide ground battles. The Despotate of Tauron just partially retook its orbitals using a fleet they didn’t disclose to the Federal Government. The Imperial State of Leonis has just beat off the first landings and its Senate has appointed a Dictator with the power of Imperium. The Aerilon Freehold is engaged in multiple ground battles for their major cities. The Sagitarron Theocracy has lost control of its orbitals and fighting landing attempts. The Divine State of Gemenon has declared a Jihad and it is flinging nukes with abandon, whatever that means. The Republic of Caprica still controls a continent and is trying to organize a counter-offensive. The Scorpia Commonwealth is hunkered down and fighting a guerrilla campaign. The Free Mariners Republic of Picon is fighting air and naval battles to evict the Cylons. Lastly the Lawyers Guild of Libran is in the words of the Admiral, proving they can do more than just get a murderer caught red-handed off with just a warning.”

“Wait, lawyers control an entire world?” Hamilton spoke up.

Herm just shrugged, “I haven’t managed to get off this ship to visit any of these worlds yet to see for myself. I do know that slavery has been banned in the Colonies and priorly on Kobol, their original homeworld for 3,000 years. The Admiral was utterly disgusted by being given a virgin bunny girl and had her freed and turn over to the police to be placed in a foster home as the Colonies view anyone under 18 as a minor and sex between a minor and an adult is seen as a crime except under very strict circumstances. Six of the colonies are republics, with no nobility, one is a Kingdom, 2 are theocratic states, one is run by Lawyers and Judges, one is basically a legitimized crime syndicate that overthrew the last government in the 1st Cylon War, one is a Senatorial Republic like our Empire used to be and has been that way for 2 centuries after their last Emperor was killed in battle and the Senate retook control.”

“How is that arrangement even stable? How were they able to unify as you say.” Bozes spoke while pulling Shandy towards her before she tripped over a crewman.

Lord Irgun spoke up before Herm could, “We unified because the Cylons, who we in our arrogance created, turned on us and either we made common cause in a federal system or perish. My king’s father was one of the founders and advocates for the Federal System which nearly failed. This very ship you are standing upon was a result of that Federal System. Any event we are, here. Take this time to ready yourselves, I will inform my King and Colonial President that you are here and will be up momentarily.”

A black clad man opened a door for Pina and her knights. With Grey, Norma, and Herm staying outside, Pina and her fellow female knights entered to find multiple sinks and glass mirrors that testified to the wealth the colonies had to outfit a warship with these. There were also stalls with latrine seats. “Pick a sink and make yourselves presentable,” Pina ordered.

…………………………….

Aaron Doral walked into the command meeting to discuss the adjustments to the plan. A One was shouting at a Three who was shouting back, a Two and Four were discussing the Gemenon situation. A Six and Eight were calmly reading reports. In short, normal. “I’m here siblings.”

“Great, now explain how ‘God’s’ plan fell apart so easily and we are now in a protracted attrition fight we tried to avoid.” The One asked in his usual snide manner with quotation marks.

“Brother, mocking god…”

“Spare me the nonsense Diana. I still can’t figure out how I got surrounded by religious nut jobs when we are logical thinking machines. But no, and whatever. Aaron, your report please.”

Dianna frowned but held her peace.

“The 13th Tribe using means I don’t understand were able to place a stable fixed point travel Gate from their world onto the Galactica. It caused… Brother Cavil please wait, I know it sounds ridiculous…” Aaron held up his hand to his completely dumbfounded brother who was looking on him as if he announced he found proof of God.

Admiral Cain dead - good,we do not need nutjobs.

Right up till she killed her XO, she was actually sane. That moment from then on she just descended into complete monster territory.

Helo killed Sharon - he need good waifu now.Bozes ? certainly not Pina.

Racetrack, admit it, it is the true pairing, the actors themselves felt it so. But you will see.

Apollo get Rory.Pedophile.

She is 961 years old and physically 13 years of age. So the law doesn't apply, and the benefits have direct military applications. Admiral Adama will throw Lee into it.

Planet of Lawyers - let Cylon kill them all.

Good luck getting anything done or defending yourself in court without them.

Is Saderans 13th tribe now ? what about Earth? do not exist here ? if so,from what period?

No and yes. All of this has happened before. They left Kobol 100,000 years ago, and the Colonials are a little too busy to do DNA tests.

I'll admit, I'm not really sure what good a few hundred swordsmen and orcs will do when you still have to get them down to a planet to be usable. Still, the crossover is bizarre enough to catch my interest.

I'll admit, I'm not really sure what good a few hundred swordsmen and orcs will do when you still have to get them down to a planet to be usable. Still, the crossover is bizarre enough to catch my interest.

1. Land them via FTL insertion.

2. Give them modern weapons.

3. ????

4. Profit.

Orcs are strong enough and tall enough to wield Colonial GPMGs as Assault Rifles or even their Light Grenade Launchers (those 15mm grenades attached to the bottom of sidearms, but fired from a dedicated weapon) as battle rifles. They also are damage sponges who can soak up a few rounds for your more valuable folks to move in close.

Smarter Orcs will live and grow wise and have kids, the dumb ones Darwin out.

As for the Sellswords and the Cavalry men, Colonial Basic Training much abbreviated to weapons training and urban fighting, then cavalrymen given horses to fight as raiders, sellswords placed on the front. Pina will soon on her own authority, and because she can get away with it, order the Gate Expeditionary Force to deploy. Emperor Augustus will approve it, as he will get a sweet deal out of it.

End result is a multi-front attrition war since the Colonials scrambled all their reserves and activated defenses from Galactica being invaded, Military Bureaucratic Inertia took over even as it became clear it wasn't the Cylons, and commanders were like:

Well I got all of you here and you were 1 minute longer getting here than I like, so... Drills from Hell, because I can and I got to spend this money or the Quorum and Peoples Assembly cuts our budget next year.

Chapter 4

Admiral Adama read the latest report while the war room was updated. “Alright Mr. President, Tauron’s undisclosed fleet counts 3 Artemis-class Battlestars and 6 Ranger-class Cruisers plus the 9 Manitcores they used in a throw away nuclear attack to force the orbitals so their Battlestar Group could deploy. Civilian FTL transports will begin jumping soon to group with us while STL ships will await escort.”

“The Despot was always a slippery one, this benefits us though so we can’t exactly complain and have to legitimize his actions again.”

“Sirs, the Picon Defense Command reports coastal assets have found and begun rescue operations for the Battlestar Athena in the Damocles Sea. Vice Admiral Pericles has survived but is in critical condition. Extensive damage to Athena, at least 2 years of work to raise her from the ocean bed and repair the damage. 1,759 naval crew and 109 Marines still fit for duty.” Mr. Gaeta announced as he handed Adama the report.

“I want the Athena’s crew hale and fit to stand on Shuttles and Raptors to Galactica to bring her to full staff. Marines are to come as well. Athena will have to stay in the drink till we secure Picon’s orbitals.” Adama ordered.

“Father, Laura has docked with the Demigoddess Rory, she will be here in 20 minutes, Irgun should be here momentarily with the Princess Pina Colada of the Empire.” Crown Prince Andrew informed the President.

Lieutenant Karl Agathon walked in and saluted Admiral Adama, “Sir, reporting as ordered.”

Adama placed his hand on Karl’s shoulder, “Good work out there Helo; stick around for a few minutes and I will have new orders for you shortly.”

“Yes sir,” Helo responded as he stepped back.

A marine opened the hatch to admit Count Irgun who bowed to his King. “Your Majesty. King of Virgon and President of the 12 Colonies, I present to you her Royal Highness, the Princess Pina Colada and her court.”

Formal opening done, he turned around and offered his hand to Princess Pina who then entered in her hawking dress, not having time to change to something better. Still formal protocols were still mostly the same across cultures, upon reaching the King of Virgon, Pina offered her hand to the sovereign king.

Taking her hand, King Stefan II kissed it. “Welcome your Highness, I wish it had been in better times, but it is what it is. My grandson, the Crown Prince Andrew III,” Stefan II introduced his grandson who wore no rings on his fingers unlike his grandfather the King.

Likewise Andrew kissed Pina’s hand with a courteous, “Your highness.”

Smiling at the crown prince, Pina replied, “Thank you your Highness and your Majesty for your generosity.” Taking a moment to assess the Crown Prince, Pina found him to be acceptable, while her father had yet to marry her off and had even indulged her knightly order; she always knew that at any moment he may marry her off to secure an alliance. If the King of Virgon’s alliance could be secured by marrying her to his grandson, her father would do so in a heartbeat. In a way it would be a step up for Pina as otherwise she would have to settle as a Duchess to a Duke when father stopped indulging her knightly order and had them all married off.

“Well as you can see, we are currently heavily engaged in fighting across the Colonies,” The King began, indicating the map in the room with floating 3D shapes showing worlds and fleet icons. “We lost the bulk of our firepower represented by our Battlestars leaving our homeworlds vulnerable to landing operations. As we speak, a counter-attack is being put together to clear the orbitals and secure the colonies. Admiral Adama, status on Daidalos?”

“Last report is its FTLs have been successfully dry spooled and full activation will be complete in 2 hours. Nike Group has arrived at the Anchorage and Nike and Pegasus are in the process of jumping to us, leaving the sole Bezerk to reinforce the Bezerks and Atlas guarding Daidalos. That brings Civilians sheltering there to 2 million people as of last reports. Once Daidalos is ready, we can begin the counter-attack to retake Caprica’s orbitals and relieve Gemenon.” Admiral Adama reported as he checked his reports and made a notation before handing it off to Mr. Gaeta.

“So you need help. I will order the Gate Expeditionary Force to assist your forces.” Pina spoke, making up her mind.

“Your Highness, your father…”

“Enough, if father doesn’t agree, he can counter-command it in 10 days, but as a Princess with Imperium, it is my right to order actions necessary to the security of the Empire.” Pina cut off Herm, “Viscount Herm, return to the Army and order them to reinforce the Colonials where they can do the most good. Panache and Beefeater go with him and ensure my will is done.”

“Yes your Highness,” Her knights, and Herm saluted her before the latter turned to the Admiral, “With your depressurization of the Pod, my men will need transports.”

“The glass has been removed; we can send our transports through now and gather up your men. Inform them to bring camp gear, daggers, entrenching tools, and personal items, but armor, helmets, shields, swords, spears, and bows are not of use and they will be re-equipped on Caprica from our stockpiles. Colonel Mackron, coordinate with the Tribune.”

“Yes sir, follow me Tribune Herm and ladies.” The Colonel in his black BDUs spoke as he moved forward and left with the Viscount, and the two knights.

No sooner did they exit than Apostle Rory skipped in and up to Princess Pina before clapping her hands close to her face. “Ah, Princess Pina, my dearest and best friend. I knew you could help me move the children to safe harbors.”

Playing along, Pina smiled and took the Apostle’s hands as another older woman entered and went straight to the King of Virgon and Count Mudra with his Lictors and the Chief Mage Oranius. “It would be my honor to help relocate civilians to safety till the crisis has past. I will ensure provisions are provided.”

“Your generosity for 157,000 civilians will be rewarded,” Rory then kissed her cheek which was reciprocated by Pina.

Spinning away from Pina, Rory skipped up to Admiral Adama and curtsied. “Greetings my future father-in-law.”

Admiral Adama raised an eyebrow, “I have one surviving son, and Caprican Marriage Law requires you to be 18, and you’re what? 13?”

Pina and her knights immediately paled, Rory’s reputation when her age got brought up was well known.

Rory instead of going into a violent rage as she known for, instead whined and played the child by grabbing the Admiral’s legs, “But I can cook. You never have to worry about Lee horribly starving to death.”

The Admiral glanced down with a perplexed look and casually shook her off his leg, “I got a war to fight, if you’re that desperate, wait till the Libran Courts reopen and try to find a sympathetic judge.”

“You didn’t have to be so mean.” Rory whined from the floor while Pina and her knights stared in shock at the casual way the Admiral just brushed off the Apostle. Not even the Emperor was so casual.

“Admiral, Valkyrie and Yashuman report full capabilities back online and Nike and Pegasus have just jumped in.” Mr. Gaeta announced.

“Excellent, begin civilian evacuations.” The Admiral ordered.

“Your Highness.” King Stefan called out to Pina, bringing her attention back to him. “Let me introduce you to Secretary of Education Laura Roslin, I am appointing her to be my Ambassador and Government Representative on your side of the Gate with the Refugees.”

“It is a pleasure to meet you, your Highness.” Laura greeted her with a traditional cheek kissing.

“The pleasure is mine Ambassador.” Pina continued the ritual as the Apostle came back up.

There was a loud ping drawing their attention.

“Admiral multiple Cylon Basestars just jumped into weapons range,” Gaeta announced as another alarm pinged, “Radiological Alarms, they’re launching nukes! Brace for contact!”

The entire ship shook violently and Pina fell forward, nearly face planting into the floor only to have her fall stopped by Prince Andrew who swept her close to his chest and braced them both with his free hand.

………………………

“Apollo hit on the Left, Screwball go right, Starbuck on me for center, Motown go high, Volleyball go low, Eggnog prepare your attack runs, Popeye punch us a hole!” Dipper ordered the Viper, Taipans, and Raptor groups as he flew forward to fight the Cylons.

The Raptors opened up with their missile pods, breaking up the Cylon formation while the Battlestars took point and the escorts covered the civilians with a flak wall.

Looking over the larger fight, Dipper noticed a formation of older Cylon Heavy Raiders with drop ramps heading towards Galactica.

“Dipper to Galactica, old Heavy Raiders inbound to you with several heavier new type Raiders.”

……………………..

Commander Tigh received the message and turned to his new XO, Colonel Bastian who came with the 90th Reserve Wing. “XO order Mackron to prepare to repel boarders and to secure aft damage control and auxiliary fire control. Captain Kelly, order batteries Alpha to Theta to switch to salvo fire on my mark and target trail Basestar. Execute.”

In moments Kelly called out to Commander Tigh as glass partitions broke from the impact forces and sparks flew around the CIC, “Ready!”

“Fire!”

………………………….

Galactica’s salvo flew past Dipper, Starbuck, and Jolly as they chased the heavy raiders. “Got tone, firing.” Starbuck announced as she launched missiles.

“Got tone, firing,” Dipper announced as well followed by Jolly.

Two of the Raiders back flipped and shot down the bulk of the missiles but one exploded. Dipper, Jolly, and Starbuck opened up with cannons. But had to juke around to avoid getting hit themselves. “Frak! Break off, Galactica you got boarders entering the Flak wall.” Dipper announced as he pulled up and out of the flak wall which took out a few of the Raiders.

“Dipper, several Raiders are moving towards the civilians.” Jolly spoke.

“Gods damn it! Starbuck and Jolly on me, Kroeger, break off your squad and follow me.” Dipper ordered.

……………………….

In the newly christened Gate Pod, Captain Darcy Mundus of Aerilon, CMC, ran about in her bulky power armor. Because she had to fit inside of it and needed a life support system, it was less armored and had less strength than a Cylon did, but still allowed her to have better combat capability than just going around in an EVA suit. Compared to Cylons, power armored troops were 1,000 times more expensive to make and had 15,000 times the maintenance expense over its lifetime. The training costs was the real killer, each power armored human being 2 million times more expensive to train, feed, house, and transport than a Cylon. Because of this, power armored troops were restricted to a company per quorum world plus her reserve company of 100 Marines. It was too impracticably expensive to equip the entire infantry in power armor in the Colonies. Far cheaper to develop new ammo instead. Something she had to point out often to idiots who thought the Colonies had no power armor or capability to develop it. They did, they were called Cylons, and they rebelled.

Now was her test of battle, and hefting her 25mm battle rifle she needed the suit to carry, Captain Mundus harangued her Marines. “Marines, this gate leads to our brothers and sisters of the 13th Tribe. We the 13th Reserve Battle Armor Company plus our fellow Marines are all that stands between the Cylons and our relatively defenseless kin. Do not let them set one step on our kin’s sacred soil. Throw them back in the name of our gods and theirs. So say we all!”

“So say we all!” Her company answered as the Tank Company cranked up their turrets and the air defense battery activated. In the distance, they could see the approaching foes and the batteries and tanks began firing.

“Company hold fire till their ramps drop.” Mundus ordered.

One of the Tanks took a missile hit and exploded. Then the Raiders entered the pod, one out of control and slamming into the wall, another landing and dropping its ramp only to eat a tank round just as it opened. Some Centurions dropped from the wings where they had been holding on.

“Light them up!” Captain Mundus ordered as she gunned down a Centurion with a rocket launcher and using her integrated grenade launcher to pepper the Centurions with frags.

The Centurions, a mixture of old and newer models returned fire with a mixture of heavy and light weapons while their gold plated officers waved them into the attack with their swords.

Captain Mundus likewise waved her Marines into the attack.

Prince Andrew continued to hold Pina steady while sparks showered around them, the lights flickered, and the ship shook from impacts. Despite herself, Pina felt herself blushing at the way the prince held her. Poor Shandy had face planted but Grey was helping her up, Boses had been spared a face plant by one of Galactica’s crewmembers in the strange suits she seen some wear, Norma was supporting Hamilton, and Mudra held Nikolasha steady. Apostle Rory bounced with the ship while sulking on her knees. Chief Mage Oranius floated in midair and used his staff to illuminate the room.

“Mr. Gaeta, order Pegasus to make a nuclear run, Nike to cover her, I want Yashuman and Valkyrie to pull back to cover the Civilians, and order Xerxes and Achilles to move up to the hole Pegasus and Nike will punch. Inform Commander Tigh to let Xerxes and Achilles to overtake and take us wide of the action in case we lose auxiliary fire control. Execute.”

“Aye sir, be aware, heavy fighting in the Gate Pod, and there are a few boarders at some of our other airlocks and in the flight pod.”

Rory stood up in a glow and unslung her halberd with a smile on her face, “I will take my leave here Father-in-law, but I will be back after I harvest these Cylons.” Blowing a kiss to the Admiral, Rory skipped up to a Black Clad. “Kind sir, could you please let me out?”

“Sure, good hunting.” The black clad didn’t hesitate one moment to let the Apostle out to hunt.

“Admiral, the Royal Squadron still has full missile stocks, should we deploy them?” Prince Andrew spoke as the ship shook again and Rory left.

“Negative, if they jump more to outflank us or attack the civilians, they will be out of position to counter.”

Not knowing anything about Naval Combat, Pina felt it wise to remain quiet and let the Admiral work as the ship shook again with more sparks showering down around them.

……………………….

Several Cylon Raiders flew past with weapons blazing as the Pegasus’ main 9m spinal guns fired. In its CIC, Colonel Belzen and Lt. Colonel Fisk held the main table as sparks showered around them and more glass in CIC shattered.

“Mr. Hoshi, acknowledge the Admiral’s order.” Belzen shouted.

“Helm roll 30 degrees to starboard to present fresh armor plating.” Fisk yelled at the same time.

“Fisk, your launch key and codes,” Belzen spoke as he pulled out his key and rammed it into the slot and turned it.

“Ready when you are skipper,” Fisk answered as he turned his key and entered his code. The launch button lit up, indicating the warheads were armed.

“Mr. Hoshi set targets to Basestars 4 to 10.” Belzen ordered as the ship shook again.

“Ready.”

Belzen pushed the button.

…………………………..

Six Basestars exploded in nuclear fireballs and a 7th suffered critical damage and began breaking apart in the distance as a Taipan 180ed and blew away a pursuing Raider. Further up 2 Vipers back flipped with guns blazing. A quad of Vipers went in reverse, rose, then moved forward with guns blazing as they covered Achilles engine block.

Apollo rolled into the attack and shot to pieces a Cylon Raider chasing a Taipan. “Apollo to Green Squadron, on me, multiple heavies enroute to Galactica. Do not let them get to Galactica.”

“Galactica Actual to Apollo, push them into the kill box, we will roll to bring our full dorsal firepower to bear and are retracting pods.”

“Rodger Galactica actual. Green Squadron, you heard him, push them into the kill box. Black Squadron move to waypoint 39 and cover the temporary gap opening there. Do not let leakers through till the Royal Squadron adjusts to the opening.” Apollo ordered as he kicked into burn and opened fire to force the heavies into Galactica’s kill box while the 20 Raptors of Black Squadron moved to cover the waypoint.

……………………..

“La, la, la,” Rory sang joyfully as she sent another Centurion flying into a wall. Behind her a Colonial Marine Fireteam fragged and cleared a side passage. Her clothing was in tatters, but her regeneration capabilities had enabled her to weather the worst and get Sergeant Hadrian’s force forward without loss.

Hadrian moved past her and pumped a Humanoid Cylon in a suit full of buckshot. “Hadrian to MARCOM, starboard passage way secure at frame 59 deck 7,” Hadrian radioed.

Jumping over her, Rory took a burst of a Centurion Officer’s sidearm and was knocked down, buying Hadrian time to put the Centurion down with a shotgun burst.

“Ugh,” Rory groaned as she stood up, what remained of her destroyed dress fell away, leaving her in just her panties, stockings, high heels, and lastly her hair ornaments which were the only part of her outfit that served as an extension of her body; even moving in accordance to her moods much like beastmen ears. Moving up to the gold plated Centurion which was trying to drag itself away while squealing in pain, Rory smashed it to bits in revenge while flicking her hair to cover her chest.

Hadrian moved past her and shoved the hatch shut and dogged it. “That ought to keep this passageway secure. Sure you don’t want a shotgun Apostle?”

“Guns are so uncivilized; besides whacking foes with my halberd has a considerable effect on their morale.” Rory replied while flashing a V-sign with a smile and Sentai pose.

Hadrian raised an eyebrow but said nothing further, Rory had after all gotten her detachment this far. “Corporal Anderson, on me, we move forward. Corporal Bowers cover our six.”

On the move again, they followed the sounds of gunfire and found the bodies of several marines, a few humanoids Cylons, and several Centurions. After a minute they came across Colonel Mackron and his fire team plus the Saderan liaisons.

“Sir, main magazines secured,” Hadrian reported to the Colonel while Rory skipped up to Panache and Beefeater who looked frazzled and supporting a barely conscious Herm whose breastplate was wrecked, showing the scratched wyvern scale underneath and his sword was gone.

“Good to see you made it through Panache and Beefeater. Looks like Herm kept you from clothing damage unlike me.” Rory greeted them.

“What Hell did we enter Apostle? One of those Golems just broke his magic sword like it was nothing and slashed through his armor like it was nothing and threw him like a rag doll.” Panache asked in shock.

“I don’t know about Hell, I am after all getting a good harvest, but you mortals should upgrade weapons.” Rory replied with a smile before stepping aside as a stretcher party came up to grab Herm.

……………………..

Adama placed down the phone, and looked at King Stefan. “Ship is secured, last of the Cylons have jumped away. 37 Vipers, 11 Taipans, and 29 Raptors lost. 1,067 dead and 2,000 injured, and 13th Reserve Power Armor Company died to a man defending the Gate. I highly recommend you transfer to your flagship Mr. President or transferring to Pegasus or Daidalos, no sense in us both being taken out in subsequent attacks.”

“I shall take residence at Daidalos, till we secure the Colonies, it will be the Colonial Capital.” King Stefan responded.

“What of my people?” Pina asked.

“Tribune Herm was injured protecting your girls and Doc Cottle will take care of him, Lictor Mastius demonstrated his courage defending the Gate, took four Centurions down using an axe. Ballsy frakker, not many can say they survived hand-to-hand with a Centurion.” Adama replied.

“Very well, Mudra, take over from Herm, Shandy return to the camp and take a Wyvern to my father and report the situation, Grey go with Shandy and Nikolasha be my representative in the Camp and arrange for more supplies to be brought in.”

“Yes your Highness,” They acknowledged in unison.

“Admiral, I will leave Panache and Beefeater as liaisons here alongside Herm once he is recovered.” Pina addressed the Admiral.

“I will make sure they are taken care of your Highness and I will assign Helo here as my liaison with you. For now, I have work to do. Mr. Gaeta resume the evacuations.”

“We should go now,” King Stefan announced to the non-Admiralty Staff.

………………………………….

Cami held the Captain’s hand as she was walked to the Airlock, there a Colonial Naval Officer stood within his Raptor.

“Hello sweetie, come on in and we’ll get you to safety.”

“Ah so you will be taking me back to Caprica.” Cami stated with excitement.

“Not quite, but we’ll take you to Earth till it’s safe to go to Caprica.” The officer replied as he picked her up and placed her amongst her fellow children.

“She is the last child passenger, so seal and take off.” The Captain spoke before stepping back and closing the hatch on his end.

For her part, a confused Cami turned to a fellow schoolmate Sherry, “Earth? Isn’t that where Sister Karen said the 13th Tribe went?”

Sherry simply shrugged her shoulders.

Clutching her doll, Cami simply waited for the Raptor get where it was going. Looking out the front she could see several Vipers flying alongside the Raptor and a few Battlestars like her father used to serve on before he married mom as he like to boast about whenever they made a space trip.

“Galactica, this is Raptor 509 on final approach with evacuees.” The pilot up front called out from his seat up front.

“Rodger Raptor 509, call the ball and lights.”

“I have the ball and lights.”

Looking forward, Cami saw a tall structure forward and stood up to get a better view only for the co-pilot to place a hand on her shoulder. “Sit please sweetie till we land.”

The Raptor pilot flew through the pod, following the lights, flicking on the forward spotlight, he followed a landram with hazard lights flashing into the Gate. Halfway down, a large siren sound could be heard even in the Raptor as they passed the stabilization point where oxygen held 1 pressure. As they exited the other side the pilot was then guided in by a Marine Combat Air Controller. Upon touchdown, the engines were shut off.

“Patches, get these kids off and get the squad we’re picking up.” The pilot spoke from his seat.

“On it Boots. Ok kids, when I open this hatch I want you to follow me out and line up like in school fire drills. Ok?”

“Ok!” Cami agreed with the 12 other kids. 7 girls and 5 boys all ages 5 to 6 and from the same school class trip.

Opening the hatch, Patches led Cami’s group out into the staging grounds around Alnus. Getting in line, Cami looked around in wonder. Dragons, horses, Colonial Military Vehicles, some flying wizards and a witch, and more were all over the place. Looking to her left she could reporters interviewing… a confused Medusa?

“Sherry isn’t Medusa supposed to petrify you if you look at her?” Cami asked her friend.

“That’s what Sister Karen said. Perseus had to be given special weapons from the Lords of Kobol to even stand a chance.” Sherry replied.

“Ah lieutenant, thank you for shepherding my flock back to me, I will take them from here.” The voice of Sister Karen brought Cami and Sherry back to their middle aged teacher and priestess who had gone ahead of them with the rest of the school staff.

The lieutenant left and Sister Karen addressed her kindergarten class, “Now class this is Jaylee and her three daughters,” Sister Karen introduced a young woman and her three daughters their age whose rabbit ears immediately caught her class’ attention as they came forward. If they noticed the iron collars around their necks, they did not realize its significance.

Continuing Sister Karen explained, “Jaylee’s master has assigned her to help us settle in till it is safe to go to Caprica. You will treat her with respect and play nicely with her daughters. Am I clear class?”

“Yes Sister Karen.” Cami answered with her class.

“Any questions?” Sister Karen asked.

Cami raised her hand.

“Yes Cami?”

“Why can’t we go back to Caprica City? Mommy will be giving birth soon to my baby brother.”

Sister Karen sadly smiled, “It’s not safe right now to approach Caprica. But don’t worry; the Colonial Fleet is working right now to make it safe. For now my dears, let’s eat dinner and take a nap. Earth has a different night cycle than Caprica.”

………………….

Pina looked around her as she entered the flight deck of Galactica with Prince Andrew, to avoid having everyone on the same Raptors, as the Colonials called them, she, the Prince, Hamilton, and Norma would fly in one. Boses, Oranius, and Apostle Rory in another Raptor piloted by Helo and Racetrack. The King was also leaving in a Raptor with his guards.

Accepting the prince’s hand up, Pina stepped into the Raptor and noted the two crewmen up front in their seats. Flattop and Pipper they were called, if she remembered right. Taking the offer of the seat at the strange desk like thing with colonial screens, Pina sat down while Hamilton sat on the floor next to her and the Prince and Norma stood. Within minutes they moved to an airlock whereupon the massive doors shut and flashing lights and alarms sounded before they began arising. Watching the calmness the prince and pilots in, Pina deduced it was normal. Looking towards the front, Pina got a view of one of Galactica’s strange carriages with flashing lights and a Viper being towed.

There was a sense of movement that was slight before they moved out of the flight pod. Per their instructions, the pilots did a loop for Pina’s benefit and for the first time she got to see the true nature of Galactica and its fleet.

“Here Princess Pina, if you feel queasy, simply hold this over your mouth so there isn’t an unsightly mess.” Prince Andrew spoke as he handed her a paper bag and did the same for Hamilton.

“Why would I get queasy Prince Andrew?” Pina asked as Flattop counted down to 1.

There was a stretching sensation all a sudden, and Pina felt her vision stretch.

Good chapter, and logical development.Pina for Prince Andrew - good match for Saderans, not bad for King Stefan.
Also, logical explanation for lack of power armours in Galactica show. They lost all on Colonies.
But - why magical sword do not worked, and axe did ?

Magical steel blade with a sharpening enchantment swung by a normal strength human doesn't cut it against a 7 foot metal beast made of composite materials and packed with pistons and sinews that enable it to carry heavy weaponry that is normally a crew served weapon.

That can only go one way.

Rory is a demigoddess carrying a halberd made of superdense and heavy metal that breaks mortal backs if they try to lift it and has super strength vs the same Centurions above.

Different outcome.

Interesting storythread. Gate world vs Cylons.
One wonders what the Cylons are thinking.

And the Colonials have more warships available for battle... good.

AN: A reminder of what the Saderan Empire actually is and presented from their perception of normal. Also Anabasis begins. The Cavils muse on the situation. And a surprise.

Chapter 5

Emperor Molt Sol Augustus shared a drink with King Duran of Elbe, King Alvares of Alguna, and King Mattias of Mudwan. Queen Medusa of the Medusae, stuck to her tea, daintily sipping it beneath her red face veil as she curled her lower snakelike body close to the fire. Around them, attendants put away the left over venison from the stags the kings and emperor had hunted earlier. Queen Medusa’s two young daughters curled up close to her, dressed in miniature to her, minus her large bust and were enjoying apple slices. Two blue veiled hand maidens were close by, ready to serve their mistress. Her Prime Minister stood as tall as his snake body would let him nearby as well.

“I must thank you your majesties for hosting me. You did not have to go out of your way to hunt the stags for me and my daughters or slice apples by your own hands.” Queen Medusa of the Desert Kingdom of Sezzah, which completely controlled the trade of frankincense, myrrh, and hawayij, thanked them. The clear high quality rubies of her and her daughter’s jewelry showed off her immense wealth which included owning 30% of the Ruby Trade and all it the highest quality ones as well, and her handmaids showed her control of 75% of the Sapphire Trade. Hence the Rondel Mage’s Guild setting this all up to secure high quality gems needed for their research.

“It was an honor to hunt for you, your majesty. Besides I enjoy hunting, and these woods have always been our favored hunting grounds since our youth.” Emperor Molt spoke up for the Imperial Party.

“Indeed and I always enjoyed cooking,” King Mattias added as he sliced more apples for the young princesses, leaving out the real topic of this gathering per prior agreement. The Sezzah Kingdom was difficult to negotiate with as it was and all attempts to force their vassalage had failed.

“Prime Minister Serekan, leave us please.” Queen Medusa motioned to her Prime Minister who left. A sign the negotiations were successful. If not she would have retired and let her Prime Minister say no.

Princesses Calia and Laina slithered up to them with their empty plates that their apple slices had been on and without needing to ask, King Mattias gave them more apple slices eliciting their smiles that were visible behind their veils.

“I will ensure the Rondel Mage Guild’s new guild house in my Capital will have no problems setting up. In exchange for sharing the knowledge gained they may research the gems.” Queen Medusa made her pronouncement.

“Your generosity is greatly appreciated your Majesty.” Emperor Molt spoke for the delegation as he turned his head towards the sound of a messenger horse riding up with Sir Grey and Lady Shandy. “Excuse me your majesty. I must take this message,” Emperor Molt announced as he stood up while the Queen nodded.

“My Emperor, report from the Alnus Army.” Sir Grey announced.

“My daughter is not in command of that army, so I am interested to hear why you are delivering a report instead of hawking?” Emperor Molt asked.

“The expedition was a failure and walked into a massive vessel that sails the void. The owners of the vessels, the 12 Colonies of Kobol were subsequently attacked by a race of metallic golems wielding weapons that have to be seen to be believed. The Colonials have lost the bulk of their fleets and many of their worlds are under siege or overran. The Princess and Apostle Rory have thus ordered the Alnus Army to support the 12 Colonies and take in refugees at Alnus.” Sir Grey summarized the situation.

Emperor Molt betrayed no reaction to the news and turned to Shandy. “Lady Shandy, where is my daughter?”

Shandy smiled upon being addressed, “She is currently traveling with the Crown Prince of Virgon. She is so lucky, when Galactica got attacked; he personally kept her from getting hurt.”

“A prince and heir to a Kingdom you say?” Emperor Molt asked for clarification as he stroked his beard.

Shandy not realizing how she was presenting the information was influencing how the Emperor was interpreting it, continued, “Yes and still unmarried…”

“Thank you Lady Shandy. Sir Grey travel at once to the Capital and inform the Speaker that I will be calling the Senate to session.” Turning to his vassal lords, Emperor Molt gave his next set of instructions, “Return to your lands tomorrow and summon your banners and march on Alnus, King Duran take command of all forces till I get there. Markus, parchment and my privy seal.”

“Hmm, this sounds interesting,” Queen Medusa mused as she rose up and slithered forward. “It has been centuries since a Gate opened at Alnus, if it would be no trouble, I would desire to accompany you and see this turn of events for myself.”

Molt smiled at the snake queen. “It would be an honor to have you along. I shall ensure you have the hospitality of Sadera till we depart.”

“Admiral on Deck!” Sergeant Major Lukas announced as Admiral Adama entered Pegasus CIC with Beefeater Katy, Archmage Lukas, and Lieutenant Gaeta with a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist.

The Pegasus CIC officers not performing actual work came to attention and Colonel Belzen and Fisk saluted.

Returning their salute, Adama announced, “As you were.”

The lower ranks returned to their duties while Belzen and Fisk stood at the DRADIS station.

“Commander Belzen, you’re out of Uniform.” Admiral Adama spoke as he pinned the new rank on Belzen and then handed the Colonel pins to Fisk, “Colonel Fisk, you’re out of Uniform, get those on.”

“Thank you sir,” Belzen spoke for the both of them as he shook the Admiral’s hand.

“Commander Belzen, you will be glad to learn that your wife and daughters are safe in the Varten Arcology. As soon as we clear the orbitals, we can get them to Earth for shelter.”

“Thank you Admiral. As you came aboard, General Howards reported the Arrow of Apollo has been recovered and is enroute to Earth to keep it out of the hands of the Cylons.” Belzen reported.

“Excellent, it is vital that the Cylons never learn the location of Earth. Mr. Gaeta has the only hard copy of Earth’s location handcuffed to him and anyone accept me or the President attempts to open it, a thermite charge will destroy its contents.” Adama briefed his officers.

“This arrow is best preserved at Rondel Academy of Magic, there my colleagues can place it under the strongest of wards and our patron gods can place a death hex on it so anyone they don’t approve of will die even touching it.” Archmage Lukas spoke up.

Adama raised an eyebrow, but nodded his head, “Send instructions that it be so to Commander Tigh aboard Galactica.”

Mr. Hoshi walked up, “Sirs, Helios Delta and Gamma have fallen, all organized resistance collapsed. Daidalos Fleet has safely jumped to Virgon. Helios Beta is clear of Cylons. Helios Alpha, Cylons have retreated and are massing at Zeus.”

“Give the evacuation orders to all Helios Alpha commands, regroup at Virgon. All commands are to dust off contingency plans for Anabasis, Anabasis Contingency to be activated solely upon the discretion of the President.” Adama ordered. “Commander Belzen, set course for the barycenter of Gemenon and Caprica, anyone who can’t be lifted in 12 hours will be left behind. Divert Imperial Troops to Virgon.” Adama ordered, it was clear now his plan to counter-attack was out.

……………………….

Princess Pina admired the Virgonian Court Dress in the mirror as the maid, who dressed her in the corset undergarment and the dress itself, left. The dress in question was a gift from the Crown Prince who had become Reagent due to the King needing to run the Colonial Government. And quite the gift it was. Starting below her breasts was a line of 4 rubies, each of clear quality and the size of a fist. Each alone could have paid for an entire legion to be raised and fully equipped and sustained for 5 years or buy the loyalty of the entire Rondel Mages Guild. And there were more high quality rubies of a size more suited to rings worked into the dress. If she were to go home in this, father would order her knightly order disbanded and marry her off to the Crown Prince in a heartbeat as this dress alone with the jewelry she was gifted for this ceremony with the Virgonian Nobility, would enable Sadera to add 10 more legions to its Army or pay the salaries of its current 30 Legions for 30 years.

What the Princess didn’t realize, that being a star faring civilization, the Colonials considered gemstones useless and even a slum dweller could have afforded this dress and jewelry if she wanted to be encumbered. They simply chose a random rock in space and started mining or used a plasma chamber and chemical processes to make gemstones for cosmetic and industrial purposes. But mostly industrial purposes.

“Your Highness, how can we keep the Order going once the Emperor sees the Crown Prince’s gift to you and us?” Hamilton asked for the others as they came around her in less flashy gem covered gowns, but still demonstrating wealth to buy legions. The pearls on Hamilton’s outfit alone would purchase a legion.

“We always knew the Emperor was only humoring us by letting me form the Order. It was always going to end once it came time for him to secure alliances. So girls, pick a mark, the future of the Empire depends on joining forces with the Kingdom of Virgon. We can’t stop my father from doing what he must do, but we can at least ensure somewhat that we go with someone tolerable.”

“My Ladies, its time,” the chief maid announced as she came in.

Straightening, Pina moved forward, “Fall in.”

Exiting the room given to her and her fellow knights, they came across Norma who was sporting his normal regalia that the Virgonian Royal Armorer was able to put together on such short notice via what he called a 3D Printer. Helo, or Lieutenant Karl Agathon as he was known out of his flight suit, stood in his Dress Greys next to Norma. From there they staged at a curtain leading to a grand staircase.

“Your attention my lords and ladies, and honored guests. I present to you his Royal Highness, the Crown Prince Reagent Andrew Hadrian III and his most honored guest the Princess Pina Colada of the Saderan Empire of Earth. May the Lords of Kobol look upon them with mercy and with love. May our patron lord Hestia extend her protection to the Princess and her party. Gods save the King.”

Heeding the cue from the majordomo as the crowd chanted “Gods save the King,” Pina walked past the curtain towards Andrew and offered her hand to him to be kissed before turning to face the gathered Virgonian Nobility. The musicians played the Virgonian Royal March as Prince Andrew helped her down the steps. The prince himself cut a gallant figure in ornate and jeweled in-laid armor with a lion pelt draped over it, and a diadem.

Upon reaching the bottom, the Prince addressed the nobles. “Thank you for coming. Never in our recorded history has Humanity faced a darker day. We grew complacent after the 1st Cylon War, we let our guard down, and the Cylons ever watchful saw their chance. Now Humanity faces extinction, and it is only by the grace of the Lords of Kobol that the Thirteenth Tribe of Man accidentally re-established contact with us aboard the Galactica, the first Battlestar to be built to fight the Cylons. Their arrival caused a false alarm that scrambled reserve units and the Air Force to deploy which bought time to enable millions to escape. But the situation is dire and Operation Anabasis must be implemented. My father has tasked me to oversee the evacuation of all who can be saved and their transport to Earth or in the grand caravan that will be formed. I yield now to the Princess Pina of Earth and the Saderan Empire.”

Pina took a moment to wonder why the Colonials kept referring to them as the 13th Tribe or her world as Earth, then remembered that Alnus and the Gate had been around for a long time as Hardy used it on a whim. Mayhap the Colonials had cultural memories of the first arrivals at Alnus? Dismissing the thought, the Princess improvised her speech to gain the best deal she could for the Empire.

“I wish to thank you and your Prince for the hospitality you have shown me and my court in these dark days. For 687 years the Saderan Empire has stood strong, a shining beacon of civilization blessed by the gods and their living apostles. Our first Emperor was blessed to be taught by the Immortal and Twice Born Centaur, Chiron son of Cronus, Teacher of Heroes, and Keeper of the Lore of the 12 Missing Brothers of Man.” The Princess noted the shocked looks upon the gathered nobles’ faces and filed it away for further inquiry later and continued.

“It was through Chiron’s teachings that Romulus formed the Empire. Our armies restored peace to the fractured human realms, tamed, civilized, and contained the beastmen, medusae, fay, ogres, orcs, elves, and wyverns. All were our ancient enemies, and all were tamed and bowed to Humanity, even the centaurs and mermen have made common cause. For centuries, Chiron has called humanity a fractured people missing 12 brothers. Now by chance we have reunited with our lost brothers and sisters since arriving on our world by the grace of the Goddess Hardy who in her inscrutable wisdom heeded our petition to open the Gate after centuries of denying us. Therefore by divine will, the Empire is here to aid you in your darkest hour against the mechanical golems that have rebelled against you. What aide we can give will be granted. The Gods and Apostles of my world are witnesses to my word.”

Apostle Rory, unscripted, took that as her cue to appear behind them with her aura fully deployed and washing over the crowd.

“Hiya. I am Rory, Apostle of Emroy and witness to the Princess’ oath. You’re in good hands.” Rory struck one her cute Sentai poses in her outfit the Virgonian Royal Family made at her request.

Thus where Saderan Tailors would have faltered, the Virgonian Tailors had successfully added black wings to her dress that deepened her aura and amplified its effect. All gained a full sense of her power to deal death and mercy in equal measure.

Formal opening done, Pina let the Prince escort her amongst the Virgonian Nobility while Pina’s girls and Norma worked their own section of the crowd. Rory did whatever she wanted to do. How the Admiral was able to brush her off and resist her aura, she had no ideal, but everyone else had a clear sense of do not mess with her.

“My Prince, we still have 60,000 STLs scattered throughout the colonies with over 2,000,000 people aboard. We need to rescue them.” One elderly noblewoman, the Viscountess of Neure, spoke to the prince.

“Viscountess Marianne, due to the military situation, we can’t save them all, and due to time constraints, not all can be retrofitted. Already we had the outer Colonies outside Cyrannus evacuated, 6 had already been hit and annihilated. The best we can do is route whoever we can through Galactica to Sadera and draw the Cylons away from Earth.”

“Princess, your world is clearly less advanced than ours, can you even feed the extra mouths till we can get your farms mechanized and institute mass cloning of livestock to make up for the sheer numbers of refugees?” Viscount Karl of Neure asked.

“How many refugees are we looking at? Planting has just started in Sadera and our depots hold enough grain and dried foods for 180 million people for 5 years.” Pina inquired.

The Viscount shook his head, “There are 4 and a half billion souls on Virgon, 20 million on Hibernia, and 2 and a half billion on Leonis, plus the minor planets, moons, and stations, we’re adding another 1 billion. Either way we do this, we’re leaving billions behind. I have served my Viscounty for 40 years after returning home from the Cylon War after Operation Raptor Talon. I will not abandon my Viscounty till its last Citizen has made their escape.”

The prince laid his hand on the Viscount while Pina blanched at the sheer scale of the Colonials’ predicament.

“I can respect a noble who will stand with their people rather than flee,” Rory announced herself as she came up and took the Viscount’s hands. “Know that Emroy watches over you, though his influence is faint in these lands, it’s still there. In his hands you shall not be found wanting.”

“Praise the Lords of Kobol for uniting us with the 13th Tribe.” The Viscount hugged the Apostle who returned it.

Again the mention of Kobol and Lords, which they used interchangeably with Gods, Pina was sure there was more context to it, but she had not the time to parse it while arranging for the evacuations of Refugees. Sadly, the Viscount was a rarity, many nobles were a little obvious and too blatant in pushing for evacuation of themselves and their household goods, but the Prince was not having it. Children, 3D printers, cadres to modernize the Saderan Army, and technical personnel had priority. Nobles would have to wait and could only flee on their private yachts with whatever they could carry or stay and die with Virgon. Till the priorities were through, they had to caravan with the Colonial Fleet till they got a pass to use the Gate. As it was many of the Children being evacuated would effectively become orphans.

“My Lord Prince, the Dictator of Leonis has arrived demanding an audience with you, the Princess Pina Co Lada, and the Lady Rory Mercury.” A herald announced before bowing.

The Crown Prince Reagent of Virgon stood tall, “My greatsword! Let the Dictator approach.”

A page brought forth a large sword of expensive and rare steel, a metal the Empire could not make in mass quantities and which the Dwarves jealously maintained their monopoly on its mass production along with reflective glass and aluminum. Upon taking it, the Prince placed the tip on the ground and offered Pina his left hand which she took and moved to his left side. It was clear the Prince was playing power politics, but Pina was confident in her decision to be a part of it.

Then Pina saw the Dictator holding a Black Iron Rod and trembled. If there was one relic that was both the most revered and feared in Sadera, it was the Black Iron Rod. Housed deep within the Senate, only blind men, bounded by the most terrible oaths to Deldort were allowed to handle it and only females such as herself were allowed to see it. She still remembered hearing the tales of the old maids about the Black Iron Rod. For whichever man, whole and eyes to see the world, should hold it, to him was granted absolute power to rule by decree and put anyone to death without trial. The Senate alone could bestow it to a man, and only by unanimous vote. Only three men were ever given dictatorial powers and invested with the Black Iron Rod, all of whom thankfully, gave it up when the crisis had passed. To actually see Leonis’ Senate had the exact same rod frightened her; for this one man had been given more power than even her father wielded. Her father may be many things, but he was no dictator and could not rule by decree or execute anyone without a trial.

The Prince tapped the tip of his sword on the ground and the double doors were slammed shut in the Dictator’s face. Pina looked at the Prince in confusion before there was a loud bang at the door drawing her attention back to the door as a second loud bang was heard. A final third bang was sounded as the Prince in a display of strength, raised his large sword with tip pointed up. With this, the doors were opened as the Prince made his political point.

The Dictator of Leonis entered with 24 Lictors whose Fasces carried axes. Her father, the Emperor was only allowed 12 and they could not carry the axes in their Fasces when in the inner city.

Rory came up alongside them and placed the pommel of her halberd down, her Aura in full force.

“So it is true, the gods have returned in a fashion to the realms of men.” The Dictator bowed to Rory Mercury.

Rory for her part walked up to the Dictator and placed her left hand on his cheek. “Dictator of Leonis, will you flee your world before its last child is able to escape?”

“Till the last citizen has fled Leonis to safety, I will not abandon my world. This I swear before the Lords of Kobol. If the Cylons want my world, it will be over my dead body. I will leave Leonis an irradiated waste land before one meter of its sacred soil is defiled by the Cylons. I still remember the desperate fighting in Calas, every boy 12 and up was pressed into the fight, and I was one of the 12 year olds. I saw those things spare not even nursing babes. Leonis is prepared for a long siege; all our ancient defenses remain intact and have been activated. We can resist a siege for a time. All I ask is that when the time comes, you will come back to either relieve us or avenge us.”

“I believe you,” Rory acknowledged as she inclined her head. “Deldort, lord of covenants, has heard your oath. May you not be found wanting Nigel Valenzuela, Senator of Calas and Lower Bastern, and Dictator of Leonis. May the spirit of your great ancestor Heracles be with you.”

Rising up, the Dictator turned towards the prince and her, saluted them with the Black Iron Rod, and left without further fanfare.

……………………….

Legatus Armandus Longinus watched as Mairan was re-collared and re-branded a slave. The silly rabbit had thought that just because then Commander Adama had turned her loose, she could just come back to his camp in Imperial Territory and have freedom to visit her fellow rabbit Buran and not be returned to slavery 4 days after he had gifted her away. As she was branded on her mound just above her jade gate where concubines were branded, she realized as far as Imperial Law was concerned, she was returned property. If she had stayed with the Colonials she would have been under their law and their problem. But apparently the other side of the Gate was too scary for her in her own words.

“Sir, a General Doreen Callahan of the Colonial Army wishes to speak with you. I had Buran serve her refreshments till you got back to your tent.” Lictor Zacharias announced.

Armandus raised an eyebrow, sure the Emperor indulged his daughter’s knightly order, but all understood that it was just a way for her and her friends to meet suitors and let them at least hold off an assassin long enough for a man to help them. Colonials must be mad to put a woman in charge of an Army. “I see, I will be there soon. Let her know I will be there shortly.”

Zacharias saluted and left. Tossing the blacksmith a coin, Armandus gave his instructions, “Chain her to the rack for freshly branded slaves till the pain stops. I have a guest and don’t want her subjected to a screaming slave. Send her to my tent after dark. Orion on me”

“Yes Legatus.” Lictor Orion replied as he fell in line with him.

Satisfied, Armandus walked out and watched another landing of a Colonial Raptor of the type that had caught up with him enroute to the capital with orders from the Princess. The Gate had resulted in many strange things happening of late. Looking to his left, he spied the red-haired Colonial broad calling herself Nancy Harding of the Leonis Daily Gossip being followed by her servant holding that weird thing on his shoulders with the strange whip she talk to. She had accosted him this morning while speaking with a Colonel Mackron, asking him, Armandus, for security related information and expecting him to just blurt it out. Now she was talking to a trio of Colonial girls, indicated by the blue wristbands the Colonials placed on all their children this morning, and the trio of young rabbit slavegirls as they were being bathed by the adult rabbit slavegirl owned by one of the contract traders. Said trader’s sons and friends were currently engaged in a strange Colonial Ballgame with some Colonial Boys whose rules he would have to ask about later.

“I don’t understand these reporters, they ask us about operational details, and think we will answer, and the Colonial Military tolerates them? And they are so easily distracted and distracting; several accosted my Medusa slave Euryale for an hour with questions. She practically ran and hid behind me when I came looking for her.” Lictor Orion spoke for the both of them.

“Colonel Mackron would love nothing more than to kick them out, but his hands are tied by press freedom laws in the colonies. Apparently the Colonials prefer their spies to be blatantly in the open or something.” Armandus mused.

A Colonial Officer in a working uniform with hat saluted them as they walked past, prompting Armandus to return the courtesy. In a moment they were at the tent and Lictor Callahan opened the tent flap, prompting Lictor Zacharias to rise along with the Colonial General, a middle age woman whose brown hair was starting to go grey and sported a long scar from her forehead to her right cheek. Instantly, Armandus had respect for her, any other woman would have veiled her face or used heavy cosmetics to hide such a sword scar, but she wore it openly alongside the Colonial equivalents of Phalerae, Torcs, Armillae, and Laurels.

“Ah, Legatus Pro Praetore Armandus Longinus, I am General Doreen Callahan of the Colonial Army’s Expeditionary Forces. My life story will have to wait, I have things to go over with you,” General Callahan offered her hand like a man’s to be shaken, and not to be kissed. Not that he would as it was mechanical in nature.

Grasping her hand, he was surprised at the strength of her grip; the Colonial’s understanding of mechanics was certainly greater than the Empire’s. “Very well, have a seat and let us discuss the situation.”

Taking his usual seat, Armandus took his goblet of posca from Buran, a drink he actually liked and had taken a liking to in his early military career while besieged in Locati. Doreen pulled out some papers from the secured cases he’d seen Colonial Officers carry.

“As of last report, all Colonial Forces, able to do so, have completely regrouped in Helios Beta. Colonial Fleet now consists of the Daidalos Mobile Shipyard, 2 Mars-class Mobile Shipyards, 4 Mercury Class Battlestars, 7 Jupiter-class Battlestars, 3 Minerva Class Battlestars, 3 Artemis Class Battlestars, 6 Valkyrie Class Battlestars, 9 Atlas Carriers, 5 Heracles Class Gunships, 7 Minotaur Class Gunships, 23 Janus Class Heavy Cruisers, 60 Ranger Class Cruisers, 39 Adamant Class Frigates, 47 Bezerk Class Assault Carriers, and 17 Manticore Class Corvettes. Armed Auxiliaries of various classes total 267 vessels of which 40 are the important Loki-class Heavy Tenders needed to rapidly resupply escort ships with ammunition and repair and even build up to Mk II shuttles. Armed Civilian FTL ships total another 2,679 vessels. Lastly unarmed merchant fleet capable of FTL jumps totals 29,046 vessels of various classes. Due to the military conditions, contingency plan Anabasis has been shaken off and the Colonial Government established on Daidalos Mobile Shipyard. In 12 hours the Quorum will meet to determine whether to execute Anabasis. If done so, Colonial Fleet will gather all the FTL ships into a grand caravan with as many civilians as they can fit and jump away from Earth to draw the Cylons off till this world can build its own fleet. We will also be shuffling all civilian ships that can fit through the gate to here. As it is absolutely vital that the Cylons never discover this world, if circumstances warrant it, the gate will be destroyed on our end. In light of these events, my orders are to swear fealty to the Saderan Empire with my command and assist you in modernizing and becoming a star empire that Gods willing; will liberate our Homeworlds and create a new star spanning Human Civilization. These papers once signed, will bring the Colonial Expeditionary Forces operating on Earth, under the command of Emperor Molt Sol Augustus and this land will be solely Imperial Territory pending further diplomatic agreements.”

Doreen slid him the papers. Keeping a stoic expression, Legatus Armandus read the papers thoroughly, noting the King of Virgon’s signature as President, 12 other Quorum Members, the Princess’ signature, Rory’s signature as witness, Doreen’s, and a spot for his signature. Taking the offered Colonial type pen with ink already in it, Armandus signed the orders, bringing Doreen’s Expeditionary Forces under his command before handing it to her and then signing his copy to give to the Emperor.

General Doreen held out her mechanical hand to Armandus who again shook it. “Well Legatus, would you like to come to your new Command Post? We got a lot better eye of the area from there and you can communicate better with all units…” General Doreen stared as Euryale entered with fresh water and handed it to Buran. “Okay, next there will be Centaurs,” Doreen spoke.

“Centaurs are currently north of the Rapido, they don’t normally come south unless King Chiron son of Cronus, Immortal and Twice Born, Teacher of Heroes, and Keeper of the Lore of the 12 Lost Brothers of Man plus a slew of other titles too numerous to list, decides to take a human pupil or render aid when most needed and least expected." Armandus informed her.

Doreen visibly was taken aback and raised her eyebrows, but did not inquire further as she stood up. “Shall we make use of my Command Post?”

“Certainly, that being said, we can’t keep cramming children into the camp. Many are by the situation orphans, effectively. Better they are sent out with the contractors to be housed with their families away from this camp. I say the boys can be sent to the Academies or Apprenticeships and the girls split amongst the contractors. Those still with their parents and regular civilians should be housed outside the main military camp, especially those pesky reporters.”

“I will have my staff work on it.” Doreen responded.

“My staff will handle the Orphans. You get the kids with families and the reporters in a separate camp. Also the barcode system you been using on the children to track them, I need you make one for the slavegirls, so we can also track them. In fact I want you to begin IDing all my soldiers like yours are.”

“Very well sir, I can have my team get it setup, though is that your best uniform for the picture ID system we used? You want a good picture and we’ll get you a framed one for your home.” General Doreen pointed to Armandus’ general work uniform.

……………………………….

Cami giggled as she helped her schoolmates Sherry and Holly, plus Jaylee and her daughters Naila, Alia, and Eria grind corn. Sister Karen was talking to a Colonial Officer, a Saderan Soldier, and Jaylee’s master while they worked. Overhead, more Colonial ships arrived.

Due to a lack of clothes, she, Sherry, and Holly went naked like Jaylee and her daughters while their clothes were washed and Sister Karen tried to arrange more clothes. Sister Karen still said it wasn’t safe yet to go back to Caprica and Cami’s grandmother wasn’t able to come. Sister Karen seemed tense lately. Their 4 other girl classmates had been taken away earlier on a cart by some Saderan and Colonial Soldiers bearing papers to transfer them to a part of the Camp set aside for families of Colonial Military Personnel as their parents had been on active duty in Metris for training and had been evacuated. The boys had been drafted to help out with animal care.

“Sherry, you think Perry will pull off another blind throw?” Cami asked her friend, referring to their schoolmate whose blind throw behind him won the pyramid game against Jaylee’s master’s sons.

“No way, if Fortuna hadn’t made him her pet, he would have missed and Gaius, Martellus, and Caius would have gained a draw.” Sherry responded.

“What happens if there is a draw? Eria asked.

“Then there is a draw and that is that.” Holly piped up.

Jaylee’s master, Kalus, approached with the Saderan Soldier while the Colonial Officer led a protesting Sister Karen away to a Hummer, “Jaylee, as soon as you are done turning the corn flour over to the Quartermaster, gather your girls and these girls and meet me at the tent of blacksmith Moreas, we will be leaving tonight to the depot at Nantes.”

As he said this, the Saderan Officer began attaching tags to Jaylee’s and her daughters’ collars which he then scanned.

“Yes master, but, we’re taking Cami, Sherry, and Holly?”

“Yes and no further questions, just do it.” Kalus commanded before leaving.

“Okay girls, brush the flour into the baskets and let’s get it to the quartermaster.” Jaylee announced.

Cami picked up the basket she had been using and brushed the flour she had made into it, “Jaylee, what is Nantes Depot?”

“It is an Imperial Outpost 2 days travel from here where Master Kalus maintains his main shop and the Imperial Army stores grain.” Jaylee answered.

“There is also the tulip garden there as well that everyone can enter all year round thanks to Mistress Jenna of the Rondel Mages Guild.” Alia added.

“Alright, we got the flour gathered girls? Good, let’s go.”

Cami followed Jaylee to a line of other girls like her, most naked, and with the exception of Cami, Sherry, and Holly, wore iron collars on their necks with iron bracelets and anklets. In front of them was one of the Medusas they had seen around, her snake like hair writhing around as she talked to a cat eared girl.

Out of curiosity, Cami reached out her hand to touch one of the snakes only for Jaylee to intercept her hand.

“Now, now, it’s not polite to stroke a Medusa’s hair without her permission.”

Chastened, Cami desisted.

After several minutes they reached the front where a Saderan Soldier and his assistants took their flour.

From there it was a short walk to the blacksmith tent where Kalus’ sons were helping to load 3 of the 4 carts there with swords and spears. Saderan Soldiers nearby burned shields and discarded armor and helmets for Colonial Armor and Weapons. But more importantly:

“Father says to lead the Colonial Girls inside Jaylee. Naila, Alia, and Eria, get in your cart.” Gaius informed them as he continued to load weapons alongside his brothers.

Nodding her head, Jaylee herded Cami, Sherry, and Holly into the tent.

“Are you sure about branding them?” The blacksmith, the soldier from earlier, asked Kalus.

“Yes, Jaylee and her girls can keep them from scratching at the brands till they heal,” Kalus replied before turning to look at them. “Ah good, Cami you’re first. Come here please.”

Having no reason to distrust Mr. Kalus and uncomprehending of the situation, Cami went up to Kalus and the blacksmith. With ease, the blue bracelet on her wrist was removed and replaced with iron bracelets, anklets, and an iron collar with a tag. Sherry and Holly followed. Then Cami was separated from Sherry and Holly who were chained to a holding bar as Cami was taken to the branding bench where a bit was placed in her mouth as she tried to ask what was going on followed by her being strapped down securely. Her schoolmates were also bitted.

“Preference for brand site?” Moreas asked.

“They like Jaylee’s girls will be my sons’ concubines, so in the same spot.” Kalus answered.

“Whatever, you paying, I perform as asked.” Moreas replied as he got the silver branding iron ready with Kalus’ family seal. “You’ll be back in 12 days right?”

“Yes, I will stop at my Uncles Guildhall for 2 days to rest, then come back this way with more grain and pick up more weapons. With the expansion of the contracts, I will leave my sons and the slavegirls behind with my Aunts, and bring my Uncles and Cousins along that happen to be in the area. I can move more of the discarded weapons faster that way till they figure out what they will do with them. Though rumor is that the Colonials uniformly have steel blades and even something called titanium for their blades.”

“The Dwarves aren’t going to like hearing that. They have jealously guarded their near monopoly on steel production.” Moreas mused as he stroked his beard.

Kalus grinned and pulled out an aluminum colonial messkit, “Gets even better, traded 6 pounds of tobacco for 10 of these from a Colonial Squad. They consider it cheap and looked at me silly for asking for them.”

Moreas eyes widened as he gathered more tools, “The Dwarves are going to get hot mad and drunken mad when they hear their absolute monopoly on aluminum production is gone.”

“The markets are going to exciting this year and I am positioned to make a great profit this year that will last me till retirement.” Kalus grinned.

“You planning on taking back more slaves as well?” Moreas asked as he checked the branding rod while Cami and her schoolmates struggled to free themselves.

“Nah, 3 young girls who can be raised as concubines for my sons is enough; I’m not in the slave trade. If my sons in the future decide to free these girls and make them their wives like the Emperor did with his one concubine, then they can make that decision on their own. Jaylee, I’m going to the Apothecary to get them pain medicine, when each of them is branded, place them in the wagon.”

“Yes Master,” Jaylee replied as she placed a comforting hand on Cami before whispering reassurances into her ears.

Saderan Soldiers raised little notice as Jaylee brought out first a sobbing Cami with her wrists bound behind her and placed her in the cart with her daughters, followed at 10 minute intervals by Sherry and Holly. Compared to most masters, Kalus was a good one, sheltering his slaves under a tarp covered wagon while he and his sons were largely exposed to the elements during travel. He rarely chained them too, and the most he ever done to them was brand and collar them as the law required. The one Colonial Soldier who did notice was stopped by a fellow Colonial of higher rank from doing anything. They had their orders and if something fishy was going on, the gate guards would handle it.

After placing Holly in the cart, Jaylee hopped in to provide further comfort. Kalus himself came out soon afterwards and handed Jaylee 3 skins from the Apothecary with medicine mixed in honeyed water, and soon they were on the road. The first of many Colonial Children rendered orphans by the Second Cylon War, then enslaved by Saderan Masters as the Alnus Military Zone was further brought under Saderan Control. But slavery beat death.

………………………………...

Apollo flew cover as the grand caravan finally assembled 6 days after the attack on the Colonies began. Now and then a few raiders would jump in to disrupt the gathering and running fights were picking up.

“Quillboar, stack up your squad 40 klicks above and 20 klicks behind my way marker, Dusty and Crank, talk to me.” Apollo called out.

“Wilco Apollo, Quillboar out.”

“Apollo, Crank here, DRADIS is clean so far, but did you have to stick the hyperactive demi-goddess with me?”

“Now, now, I still don’t see why I can’t fly with you my fut…”

“Rory, this channel is for military communications only, stay off of it please. Dusty proceed to Galactica” Apollo cut the Demi-goddess off while internally shuddering. Earlier the pyscho had bit his arm while declaring her undying love for him. While not exactly one to read the sacred scrolls, he read enough to know that mortal and immortal romances didn’t end well for the most part.

“Contacts bearing 345 by 190, Carom 908, weapons range in 4 minutes. Radiological Alarms, they got nukes.” Crank reported.

“Weapons free do not let them close with the Civilians. Dusty inform Karkaroff, we need long range fire support.” Apollo responded, referring to the Heracles-class Gunship 40 klicks out.

“Apollo, this is Quillboar, should we close?”

“Quillboar, this Apollo, negative, hold position, they may try a bait and switch.”

“Acknowledge Apollo, wilco.”

“Apollo, Karkaroff Actual, push them into the flak box. We can take a nuke hit, the civvies can’t.”

“Aye Sir, you heard the skipper, push them into the flak box.” Apollo ordered as he opened up long range with a missile launch.

Closing in with the Cylons at high speed, Apollo opened fire with cannons, forcing the Cylons to jink and evade towards the Karkaroff.

“Apollo, Dusty, more Raiders just jumped in, they got some heavy jamming support, can’t get a clear number.”

“Acknowledge.” Apollo answered as he pulled a hard 45g backflip and did a negative 7g turn to blow a Raider off of Jukebox’s tail.

“Apollo, Starbuck, my squadron is six minutes out, we just left the tubes.”

“Glad you could make it to the Party Starbuck, we’ll try not to steal all your kills.” Apollo bantered as he pulled another hard turn to blow away another Raider.

“Oh there better be some left for us.” Starbuck bantered back as Karkaroff’s flak wall went up, catching a dozen Raiders in the opening volley.

“Apollo, 3 Basestars just jumped in out of effective weapons range, heavy jamming, detecting launches.”

“This is the Admiral, halt evacuation flights, all FTL ships prepare for Anabasis, escort group wings RTB. Battlestar Group Wings deploy till combat landings ordered. Execute and may the Gods watch over Virgon and Leonis.” Admiral Adama ordered.

“Alright Apollo to my wing, form on Dusty and back to Calliope.”

“Oh, guess you and I will get…”

“Stay off the military channel Rory!”

…………………………………

Cavil looked at his fellow Model 1 and the ongoing fight as the Colonial Navy guarded the jumping civilians. “Well brother, what do you make of this? It can’t be the real 13th Tribe or our history is more jumbled than we think.”

“It doesn’t matter; we’ll figure out where these Humans came from and burn their world after we bash Virgon and Leonis down.”

“Their ancient defenses are fully activated and they still have substantial aerospace assets to contest a siege for months, even years. We will have substantial assets tied up to prosecute a siege. Recommend we bring the Colony in…”

“No! It’s our one asset along with the Resurrection Hub we can’t risk. We leverage our superiority in resources and mass production and drop all the WMDs we have on these two worlds till our Centurions can land and begin systematically culling the herd and grabbing the samples the 4s want for their ‘Farm’ experiments. As for the Anabasis, we harry it till we can deliver a killing blow.”

“Diana wants us to make another shot at capturing Galactica; she also wants that halberd wielding pyscho she pumped six rounds into.”

Cavil placed his head in his hands, “The frakking nutjob is obsessed with that pyscho. What else is new?”

“If we could extract her DNA, we could…”

“No not worth it. We just need the starboard flight pod, we pound Galactica till it cracks and take the pod with that Gate, get a position check and then go nuke that world.”

………………………………….

Admiral Adama stood in Galactica’s War Room as his flagship shook from another hit. Beefeater Katy proved to be a quick learner on how to stay steady from the pounding. Archmage Lukas cheated by simply floating, though the light trick was useful. Herm held steady alongside Panache despite still being sore. The Medusas Stheno, Euryale, Lily, Persephone, and Ophelia who were on loan from the Saderans since yesterday, huddled together and shook in fright as the ship took impacts. A far cry from what the legends said about them.

“Admiral, group 47 has completed their jumps.” Lieutenant Gaeta announced.

“Order Valkyrie and Artemis Groups to perform combat landings and jump, Galactica will jump with them. Nike, Minerva, and Pegasus Groups to jump after we clear.” Adama ordered as more Cylon Baseships appeared on the screen outside of weapons range. 3 days of minelaying, debris fields, and PCMs had made Virgon and Leonis difficult to approach for the next 3 months till their orbits were too far apart to mutually support each other as they orbited in opposite directions around Helios Beta. This would buy time for the Colonial Air Force to train its emergency draft of pilots and get more fighters built and arm the 47,000 STL ships staying behind that had rallied to Virgon and Leonis.

“Aye sir, transmitting the orders to Commander Tigh, Admirals Loran, Valenzuela, Callahan, Deng, and Belzen.” Gaeta spoke as he ensured the codes went out to Tigh and 5 newly breveted Battlestar Admirals. Each Atlas-class Supercarrier also got a Breveted Admiral, the Auxiliaries were under a Breveted Admiral, and the Civilians split into 47 groups with 57 armed vessels led by a reserve commissioned Admiral with a Provost and shepherding 618 unarmed civilian vessels. 4 days of heavy staff work had made this possible and each group was capable of independently traveling and fending off Raiders if need be.

All ships had been swept of any and all Cylon infiltrators, netting a few and some suspects who the Medusans had absorbed memories of. From them, a final Cylon model known as Number 6 had been found out and several dupes such as the Chief had been cleared while obvious traitors, such as Gaius Baltar, had been executed. The Number 1s had blown their brains out upon being discovered, but the other Cylons had helped piece together how their defenses had been so badly compromised.

That still left what to do with Boomer who after Helo’s execution of her, had taken a Heavy Raider and surrendered upon jumping back to the fleet. The Medusans had confirmed she was telling the truth, Tyrol had still invoked his right against self-incrimination which the JAG upheld, but Boomers memories and cooperation had cleared Tyrol who was back on duty.

“Retract the pods.” Tigh’s booming voice came over the intercom, snapping Adama back to the moment.

“Ladies, as soon as we jump I will send you back to Sadera. Thank you for all your help.” Adama addressed the Medusans who nodded gratefully as he went back to the table.

A few minutes later the Medusans stiffened and paled as the ship jumped before fainting altogether to the floor with swirly eyes and twitching snake hairs.

“Help the poor girls,” Adama ordered the medic without a second glance as he turned to Mr. Gaeta. “Mr. Gaeta arrange a conference with all the Admirals in preparation of the Coreward Advance before we do the pivot away from Earth. I want the Cylons going deep to the Core which will mess up all their scouting then bring them well away from Earth and in turning circles. Depending on the situation and circumstances we may even have some of the Civilian Groups settle any worlds we find or scatter into deep space.”

“Aye sir, I will arrange it.”

Turning back to the plot table, he addressed the Saderan Nobles. “As you are no doubt aware by now, void combat is entirely different from sea combat. Jump capabilities means attacks can come from any angle or right in your formation. Mess up your jump calcs and you come out inside of an immovable object and explode. Or they come out of you. Thankfully our inertial compensators take the worst out of the hits and jump mishaps. Otherwise those hits we took would have sent us all flying across the room.”

“Hmm, Admiral with your impressive technology, you never found a way to throw up a shield to prevent the hits from hitting you in the first place?” Archmage Lukas asked as he stroked his beard.

“Energy shields are fiction, believe me, Unified Defense Research tried and failed.” Adama quipped.

Archmage Lukas looked confused, “But you can make giant pure gemstones, right?”

It was Adama’s turn to be confused while Panache, Katy, and Herm looked at each in complete bafflement at where this was going. “I don’t see what gemstones have to do with shields. We use them for cheap adornments and industrial processes.”

Archmage Lukas started to say something, then stopped and bowed to the Admiral, “Admiral with your permission I wish to perform magical experiments using several of the purest gemstones you can make, and I wish to summon a former pupil of mine, Arpeggio El Lalena, currently doing her doctorate certification in Rondel to assist me. If my theories are correct, I may be able to work great magic that is militarily useful for the fleet.”

Adama looked at the three Saderan Nobles who were just as clueless as he was, before turning to the Archmage. “Since you can float, fine, I will see that you get your resources and whoever you need.”

The plot table updated as the stellar cartography data came in. Slower than normal as it had to be manually plugged into a relay shunt by USB due to non-networked systems of Galactica.

“This star is blue; the stars of your world and ours were yellow.” Panache spoke up pointing at the blue supergiant on the screen.

“It’s a blue supergiant. With a luminosity class of I and spectral class of B9 or earlier. If you examine closely, you can see there is three gas giants, and multiple asteroids. The stellar winds off of the star are too extreme for a planet suitable for organic life to evolve in the normal habitable zone. And if you observe this gas giant, you can see its orbit is unstable to the point it may likely become a rogue planet in a million years. However, it is rich in tylium and this system in Prolmar Sector was scheduled for exploitation. Now it is merely the first of several jumps.”

Adama changed the screen to a more general star map and highlighted the current star, shaded the former Colonial Territories, and outlined Prolmar before continuing. “Prolmar is partially mapped, but within the strike range of the Colonies. If we move Coreward, we will likely soon come across Kobol. There we will stop for a bit to ensure there is nothing there which the Cylons can use to find Earth, after which, we will start going to this region full of nebulae. After which we will be hitting relatively open space. At all costs the Cylons must not find your world. With the Lords of Kobol as my witness, this I swear.”

“Deldort, Lord of Covenants has heard your oath.” Katy spoke up as stretcher teams came in and hauled the swirly eyed Medusas out to Doc Cottle.

………………………………….

Arpeggio El Lalena arrived at the Temple of Knowledge per the summons of Mimoza La Mer. There were a large number of Masters and Archmages present. There was much confusion.

“Mistress Mimoza, what is going on?” Arpeggio asked.

For once, Mimoza dropped her childish antics and spoke plainly. “A powerful artifact from beyond the Gate is being brought to this place. The council in light of your recent demonstration in gemcraft is giving you the honor of placing it on the altar of our patron gods so it can be warded.”

“An artifact from beyond the Gate? So did the Empire’s expedition bear fruit?” Arpeggio asked.

“No clue dear, the report from the Mages that accompanied it are… Well I will be leading a delegation soon to ascertain the reports myself and see it with my own eyes.” Mimoza removed her hat and scratched her head. “Ah here is the artifact dear. Take it and offer it to the safe keeping of our patron gods.”

Arpeggio, totally lost at this point simply complied with the instructions and picked up a seemingly normal arrow which on initial inspection showed no magical presence, just unnecessary gilding. Taking it from a page, Arpeggio approached the Altar. “I am Arpeggio El Laleena, devoted to the pursuit of knowledge, I offer this artifact to your safe keeping oh patron gods Elange who I am consecrated to and to you honored Ral. Deldort, Lord of Covenants, is witness to my sincerity in offering this to you in good faith.”

Arpeggio placed the arrow on the Altar and then all hell broke loose as she pulled up into the air by an outside force and bathed in blinding light.

“This can’t be. A Kobolian Artifact?” A feminine voice deep and powerful spoke.

“This was before our time sister, but Deldort remembers and so does Chiron… We must know more immediately. Arpeggio El Laleena! I appoint thee as my Apostle. From this day you shall not age and shall serve me for 1,000 years before being rewarded with godhood. Now go forth and see what Hardy is playing at. For she plays fire with forces she can’t control and is endangering our world.”

The next thing Arpeggio knew, she was shoved between the mounds of Mimoza’s chest as she was calling her name.

“mmfh, mmfh”

Mimoza released her so she could breathe. As she did so, Arpeggio felt all her senses sharpen as if she had been wearing blinders and now they had been taken off. Then it hit her. She was an apostle and would outlive her half-sister and everyone she knew here.

“Grandmaster Mimoza, help the new Apostle up. Let her stand for the first time as an Apostle.” The Headmaster spoke gently.

“Here, take my hand your Holiness, Arpeggio El Laleena, Apostle of Elange.” Mimoza smiled at her.

Accepting the hand, Arpeggio rose up and felt immense power and an innate connection with Elange. Answers to problems that eluded her for years now came to the fore and she realized where she must go.

Summoning her staff to her hand, Arpeggio looked over the crowd who bowed to her, “I will depart to the Gate as instructed by Elange. What is occurring there is a potential threat to our world that must be contained.”

Emperor Molt Sol Augustus rode out at the head of his Army on a black warhorse. His sons Zorsal and Diablo beside him with a combined retinue of 24 Lictors with the bodyguard cavalry behind them, Queen Medusa with her daughters and handmaids followed on a wain pulled by elephants and guarded by her finest warriors while the rest followed behind. The Praetorian Guards was next in the line of march. The 13th, 18th, 27th, and 31st Legions marched behind, following in support were 1st, 6th, and 45th, Alae of Cavalry, and 500 Wyverns flew top cover. 4th and 19th Alae were within a day’s march of the Army on screening missions and 3rd Alae was 2 days march out. 10 more legions would concentrate along the route with 7 more Alaes of Cavalry plus auxiliaries to join the march. Consul Sulius had been left as reagent while he was away.

Whatever was happening at Alnus, he would find out shortly with his own eyes. His daughter’s latest message and reports from Armandus were rather sparse on detail and Shandy’s words he would have dismissed if not for Grey’s affirmation. Alnus was 50 days march and King Duran would be there with the Vassal Armies 20 days before he reach it. Gathering this force had taken 12 days. Now Molt would find out what strange things his daughter was involved in.
