I think it’s more a case of the Great War mentally damaging Europe to the point where it involuntarily soils itself.

The world that existed before 1914 was not a perfect place. But it didn’t deserve destruction. And for much of Europe it was certainly better than what came after it.

Those wars being something in living memory is was kept up the trauma Europe had but with that generation dying off that will change. The new generations are growing up seeing their countries kowtowing and being occupied by foreigners, Tbh if I was a foreigner in a European country I'd leave now because once the economies inevitably start collapsing the native populations will start killing foreigners off in lynching's and running them out. Also the politicians who have been allowing said foreigners to pour in will quickly turn them into scapegoats too.
