Godzilla Minus One came out in Japan on November 1st with a wide Japanese theatrical release that occurred on November 3rd, which was the anniversary of the 1954 Godzilla film (as well as Godzilla Day). This latest Godzilla film takes place in the immediate post-war era Japan, if that sounds familiar to anyone. :p

Toho International will be releasing the film in North America on December 1st. Gotta say, it looks pretty good for a $15 million budget.

Here's a clip...

Oh spoilers... that was undoubtedly its death scene. Very sad and sorry about that.

Still Godzilla looking sharp!

No idea.

Not looking either since I want to avoid spoilers.

I got tickets hopefully for the end of the week to watch this. I'm glad it's getting some sort of release in America now. Got good reviews and reception in Japan so I'm hoping it'll be as good as the trailer impression was on me.

Godzilla Minus One might've been the best film I've seen all year.

Go into it as unspoilered as possible.

Without spoilers, the film is probably the best quality Godzilla film period. It's not like the older Toho films. The film is like Train to Busan in that it takes time (even more time in this case) to set up characters that you genuinely care about. Then when Godzilla appears, the atmosphere is like a horror movie... not because Godzilla is scary (though he is terrifying) but because of the tension. And Godzilla is fucking angry. He wants to kill people and destroy. There's literally no plot armor which makes the film even more effective. You don't want to see any of these people die.

Even the themes and messaging of the film is great. It's got such a powerful story and narrative. I loved it. The film was well put together. And all on a budget of barely over half of an episode of She-Hulk .

No one left the theater after the film was over. We were all like just sitting there processing what we had just watched as the credits in Japanese rolled. It was that good. As that's just as a film, not even just a Godzilla film. But it had to have Godzilla in the film to make it work. Which makes it even more awesome.

Oh and there's military porn in this film too. Unexpectedly so... and it's beautiful.

The lack of Americans is explained away in the film as due to tensions with the Soviet Union. I don't wanna expand on it because of even minor spoilers. People should go into this movie not knowing what to expect.

It will be aired in Brazil from December 14th, and one of the few cinemas where it will be aired isn't that far from home, so I'll watch it.

Godzilla Minus One came in third this weekend in the United States with $11 million in the box office. It was beat out by the debut of the Beyonce Concert Film thingamajig and another week of the Hunger Games prequel. This successful box office also is the best performance of a Japanese live action film in the US and the second best foreign live action film in the US (beaten out by Jet Li's Hero) in their opening weekend.

Not going to do any spoilers, but the film has a lot of throwbacks to older Toho (and even some of the American films) Godzilla films, they're subtle and sparse, but there.
I just wish they went back to practical godzilla suits, Final Wars is a cheesy complete schlock film but god I love it.

I finally saw it.Great movie, everybody who do not watched it yet should do so.

I have only two problems :
1.How kamikaze pilot trained on A6M fly like expert prototype fighter without any training
2.Why Godzilla bothered with waiting for its atomic breath to finish destroyers, when he could kill them just fine with his teetchs, like other ships earliers.

But,i undarstandt, that without that japaneese could not kill him here.

Interesting thing - small Godzilla from beginning was more dangerous, becouse it could target particular people.

And pity, that it was not Takao shipgirl there - she would show oversized lizard, who is boss !
Here,from Arpeggio of blue steel:

Try regenerate from that, you stupid reptile !

Cute ! i almost died from overdoze of sugar.

It's only in theaters for a week and I didn't hear about it until halfway through that run so I don't think I'll be able to catch it in theaters unfortunately.

They did apparently color grain every shot instead of just throwing it through a filter or whatever.

And apparently it made it a better or at least different film.

(spoiler review below)
