There situation.

After Red Teams reconnaissance of the Henry Lamb research station goes awry, a Jump ship suddenly arrives a few hundred Kilometers from the Spirit of Fire. These are forces of the Arano restoration that have misjumped. After a brief exchange in which Cutter explains the situation to them, the forces of the Arano restoration ally with the Spirit of Fire. Captain Cutter is placed in command of all allied forces with the commander of the Argo as his second. Working together they must secure the ARK and use it to send the forces of the Arano restoration home. As a bonus to them to ensure they're properly motivated, The UNSC will support Kamea and her people in overthrowing the tyrant who holds her throne (Cutter doesn't yet know that the UNSC has been passified by the created).

Special Notes: The Spirit of Fire has all units from Halo Wars 1 and 2. The forces of the Arano Restoration are using Star League era weapons and equipment. Battles will be ground based, no space engagements. There will be no reinforcements for either side and no interference from either the sentinels or the Flood. This is just a battle between these forces.

Can the Allies defeat the Banished and drive them off the ARK?

No one has any thoughts? Surprising considering all the BattleTech fans here.

Yeah? Well I don't see Battletech mentioned in the header. Just Halo. That means that you're locked in here with me, laddie.

They can, but I wouldn't bet money on it.
I don't see the UNSC coordinating with the Restorationist forces very well, if only because they come from two very different traditions with different focuses in strategy and tactics. The Restorationists simply haven't been fighting an opponent like the Covenant, and even if they're willing to learn new ways of fighting, it won't happen overnight.

I know that 'combined arms tactics is lostech' is a meme, but how much of that meme is true?

As for the Spirit of Fire forces, they were outnumbered bad enough in Halo Wars 2 that they were forced to fight asymmetrically. This force addition might be enough to change that, but it's hard to know. If naval assets don't enter into the conflict, Jerome and Isabel can't turn the Enduring Conviction against Atriox's ground forces, so that denies the SoF that easy win. If the forces have parity, then this can turn into a grindfest, ending when the Restoration forces break or the Spartans somehow take out Atriox.

The mercenaries are going to have a hard go of it. The Covenant's major vehicles use heat-based weaponry, and a Scarab will slag light and medium mechs. The Argo's complement is probably going to be used as a light raiding force, hitting the Banished hard but avoiding stand-up fights.

Any idea on the full force numbers that the Spirit of the Ark and their Covenant opponents will have?

Unknown the number of troops the Banished had but Cutter and his Forces had about 2 thousand crew and 11 thousand attached troops. That was roughly half of what he had in Halo Wars 1. So for this VS he'd have about 20 thousand troops plus attached vehicles and weapons.

The banished had enough to basically make a permanent footing on the Ark, and was growing as seen by the end of Halo Wars 2.
