This is a really good article that touches bases of wokescolds and people putting their own unfair spin on gaming and talking about people essentially whinging about how cultures, hundreds if not thousands of years ago should be censored or scrubbed from the history books because they were... problematic by today's standards. This is an entirely ridiculous stance to take of course, who here has the right to judge another person, today, for the actions of their ancestors?
As an example, I'm Irish and we suffered some eight hundred years of "imperial colonisation" by the British Empire. Do I blame the modern UK for this? Ha! Of course not. The UK as it is today would be as alien to the British Empire as a T-Rex would be to a chicken. They're technically related but so different you couldn't be blamed for never seeing the connection. When I was a teenager yeah, I made plenty of cringy comments and unironically voiced the phrase "Tiocfaidh ár lá" which translates to, "Our time will come," speaking of either or both of vengeance against the British and a reunited Ireland. But I was a teenager back then and as an adult now, yeah... What's happened has happened and there's absolutely no point in dwelling on it to the ruin of yourself in current year.
This is one of the reasons why Gamergate was such an important movement (and to be honest, it still feels relevant considering how often game journos keep digging up it's corpse to try and brow beat everyone). It show cased how institutions can and will be subverted by wokescolds who demand that everyone kowtows to their ideology. Gamers were or are largely at the time lower left corner of the political compass map and yet, the people who we considered as our own turned on us and branded us as every kind of bigot under the sun. Why? Some tart had an affair on her boyfriend for clout and exposure. Not good reviews but for clout. The boyfriend then put up a post which should be seen as the gold standard for #MeToo alligation. He had the receipts. He provided them when asked. He didn't create it to tar the tart but to try and bring about attention to what's now known as gaslighting and how psychological abuse can harm men as well as women. Needless to say, games journos to this day are reviled and rightly so. At best they're click bait hacks and as has been shown, hate clicks eventually run out as people just start to ignore their articles or using archiving sites so they don't get traffic.
Just to really drive the nail into the coffin, the FBI declared that there wasn't enough evidence to prove that GG had made any sort of threats. Also, the number of anti-GG journos and so on that turned out to be everything they claimed GG was would be hilarious if it wasn't so evil.
