If whiteness equals wealth and power, then can we say that Rishi Sunak is an Oreo? Brown on the outside and white on the inside? :D

lets see how long this one lasts.

Man firebombs migrant processing centre in Dover before killing himself at petrol station

A man threw firebombs at an immigration centre in Kent before killing himself nearby.

Police said up to three incendiary devices were thrown on Sunday morning at the reception of the Western Jet Foil facility in Dover, where asylum seekers are processed after being rescued from small boats in the English Channel.

A witness from the Reuters news agency said the perpetrator drove to a nearby petrol station and killed himself and the local MP said she had been informed of the suicide.

Kent Police confirmed the man was found dead at the petrol station, where another firebomb was discovered in his car.

Two people have reported minor injuries at the centre, where almost 1,000 people were brought to shore on Saturday.

Also, where did they get the flag? Seems an odd thing to bring with you for hundreds or thousands of miles....

Harvard’s lawyer should have told the Supreme Court the truth: “OK, OK, I know my arguments sound stupid. But trust me, we’re Harvard, we’re not stupid. We’ve been famous for 386 years because we understand marketing. Do you want to know the real reason we are discriminating against Asians and in favor of blacks? It’s because everybody loves blacks! My God, man, don’t you watch any TV commercials?”

Sailer is being sarcastic here, but such arguments won't fly in court, where one needs at least a thin veneer of a legal rationale.

"Here are some Times headlines from as far back as the 1980s:

  • 1982: “According to a recent Rand Corporation study, [putting fewer criminals in prison] could reduce both the prison population and the crime rate.”
  • 1987: “After years of increased sentences, and an extraordinary drain on our state’s treasury, we need to acknowledge that longer sentences do not deter most crime.”
  • 1988: “An Answer to Jails Is Reading”
  • 1989: “Prison Can Be a Dumb Solution”
  • 1991: “Alternative to Prison Mends Fences and Lives”
Note that it wasn’t until 1994, and the election of Rudolph Giuliani, that crime actually, for the first time, went down. (Giuliani did not follow the Times’ advice.)"

In regards to the 1987 headline, a cynic could draw a different conclusion from this: Specifically, that the sentences weren't long enough and that they deserved to get life in prison. That way, they'd never be able to reoffend since they'd never be released.

The real threat on the border, are we worried about the wrong things for some reason ?

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged an immigration detainer on Canadian national David DePape with San Francisco County Jail, Nov. 1, following his Oct. 28 arrest,” the department said.

ICE issues so-called immigration “detainers” to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to inform them that the agency intends to take custody of an individual and requests that ICE be notified before that individual is released.

The detainer is unlikely to affect DePape’s case since deportations often happen after criminal cases are resolved. But after conviction and prison sentence, the US normally would seek deportation.

According to federal records, DePape, a Canadian citizen, entered the country in early March at the San Ysidro port of entry, which is along the California-Mexico border, as a temporary visitor. Generally, Canadians who are visiting for business or pleasure don’t require a visa and are allowed to stay in the US for six months.

DePape, 42, has been charged with a litany of crimes, including assault, attempted murder and attempted kidnapping, following last week’s break-in at Pelosi’s San Francisco home, the US attorney’s office and San Francisco district attorney announced on Monday.

So, he came to the US just to assault Paul Pelosi? What a dipshit!

But it still seems illogical for him to side with the GOP when they want to deport him, no?
if the gop couldn't get people to make bad calls they wouldn't be a going concern,

push a big enough lie and everyone will just assume you wouldn't lie about that like, example what if the gop said the democrats are to a man all a blood drinking cabal of demon monster child molesters. if he's dumb enough to think that, not only is what he did moral a little thing like his immigration status which he likely never got stop on the street about is not going to be a problem for him

If you're alluding to visa overstays vs the "people just walking over the border" issue....eh, maybe. Technically, visa overstays are the majority, I think it was like 60% that and the other 40 was just walking in.

However, addressing and catching visa overstays is much harder then just securing the border, and securing the border also prevents people that would never be able to get a visa from getting in.

I think we'd have more to do both if we actually addressed our obligations with right sizing our immigration and refugee process instead trying to do a grandpa Simpson drill as a country and letting the people think anyone on the border is there illegally

I don't know what you're getting at with the last bit, but the right sizing point seems shaky.

I don't see any issue with the current immigration caps being raised, but I also haven't seen a compelling arguement made for doing so. But everything I know about the refugee system suggest that we don't need to change anything. As things stand something like 90% of "asylum seekers" claims are rejected because they're baseless under our existing standards, standards that are in line with the international standards. So I'm not sure how we have any right sizing to do.

And I strongly object to the phrase "addressed our obligations". We're not obligated to let anyone in, and have every right to say "yeah, no immigration allowed, go away." We shouldn't do that, but we can.

What's your ideal immigration policy for the US?
