Good idea, it avoids one of the most common mistakes of an Isekai, the abuse of knowledge of history, culture and modern science over a less developed world. Plus adapting on the modern world can bring either comedy or drama depending on the actions taken.

Just be careful about the way authorities deal with him, because openly carrying a medieval arsenal is a good way of getting arrested while on the other hand if his enemies can open a portal anywhere on the world he will need resources to even reach the battlefield, especially if its not in the same country he arrives.

This idea for an isekai is closer to the times before the current Isekai Genre which is more or less a sort of Power Fantasy Wank Fest where the MC is more-or-less an avatar of numerous fans who wished to do similar to other settings

I was thinking less them easily being able to make portals and more, they’re now spread out and have operations all over the world. As for the loosing of his arsenal, kinda reminds me of that comic Birthright by Image comics, the resident barbarian hero has all his weapons confiscated but still gets by with less alongside his own fighting skills.

Plus, I’m sort of a fan of Robert E. Howard’s Badass Normals now, even without a large arsenal composed of highly upgraded weaponry, the sort of “Barbarian” I’m thinking of can adapt and use even the weapons of those he kills or the nearby dead or whatever. Even kitchen knives can be used with deadly efficiency against armed opponents.

I had idea to make a fic where random BT fan is transported into body of Caleb Davion before the events of the first DA novels. I reckon having a sane heir would change things a bit, but when sketching the flow of the story I realised it would be too much for my unproven writing skills, so I scaled it down to something more managable, where my lack of writing experience can be covered up with mech explosions.

For ISOT I had idea of 1989 Yugoslavia being transported to the April first 1941. Because nazi stomp is always fun. Maybe someday.

Probably the beautiful feminine prototype, of which the Isekai is simply a symbolic masculine inversion, is Red River, which I adored at every level.

I find the art in Red River to be perfectly lovely and absolutely aesthetically correct, to be honest. And the storyline is just lovely as well. It’s a fantastic vision to lose yourself in.

Okay, that said, got another idea from playing Remnant: From The Ashes and remembering a bit of Psyren

The basic idea is that in an alternate universe a mysterious energy source was found that helped easily relieve every single power shortage problem on Earth. Problem was that it accidentally made openings to dimensions full of eldritch energies which proceeded to horribly mutate large portions of the populace, animal and human, even machines at times due to some tech running on said energies

There were some people who escaped being mutated and/or killed and/or eaten by fighting, running and surviving or being relatively far away at the time when the invasion occurred, resulting in a sort of Terminator-Resistance-esque situation

The protagonist is an extremely cautious and resourceful and observant fighter, one of the best of the “Scavengers” who go to retrieve resources, deliver items to other secret settlements, kill dangerous threats before they get too close etc

On a mission that was somehow supposed to save the world, the protagonist ends up swapping places with his Ordinary High School or College Student Alternate Universe Counterpart. He then proceeds to weird people out with his overly cautious nature and change of general personality and new fighting skills

Meanwhile his “ordinary” counterpart who was hit by a Truck thinks he’s in an Isekai Genre and will get to be real overpowered....he doesn’t and manages to be a burden on his fellow “Scavengers”

Eventually the mutative energies start flowing into ordinary earth and its up to both versions of the guy to deal with it, them being able to talk in dreams

If isekai fanfiction is allowed for consideration, I've been enjoying the WH30k story This Won't End Well by StrangerOrders.

I read that one before, I remember the MC calling the Emperor to his face an inhuman empathy-less person who “Cares about humanity, NOT men”

Anyway, Isekai Idea that’s somewhere between the current idea of Isekai and the more “classical” stuff, I think

Based off this guy right here

In a far far future, humanity has more-or-less merged with robots during a period of Post-Scarcity when Robots did the Zeroth Law by thinking of themselves as “human” and deciding that other alien sapient races count as “human” as well

They are both conquerors and protectors, they wish to cultivate all “human” life, even if a number of alien races resist

During a losing war against more advanced and numerous alien race of eldritch-insects seeking to eat all organic and inorganic matter in their galaxy, one particular robot that’s doing its best to protect a group of civilians and being overwhelmed is summoned into a different universe or dimension or maybe a planet far far far away from his own galaxy

In this planet, there are many fantasy races with magic(called Psionics by the Robot)around. The Robot was summoned due to the fact that an “Evil Empire” of “Greatest Elves” who are Roman Expies were conquering the Europe expy and enslaving its peoples whilst also levying harsh taxes upon the peoples of the conquered lands

The Robot while extremely damaged, decides that it cannot allow “human” life to suffer and die so much and sides with Celt/Gaul-expies that are called “Beast Elves” and look like Orcs but kinda like the Orsimer from Elder Scrolls

They mistake his powerful clarketech arsenal for magic too

Sometimes also called "The Anatolia Story", the art of Red River.

Isekai Idea: A Barbarian Hero from a Robert E. Howard-esque setting, who combines both a Berserker Rage and a Keen Intellect is transported to modern day Earth and has to adapt to a world where he finds himself forced to adapt to the relative-in-comparison peacefulness, the presence of new weapons and technologies superior to even the strongest and most advanced iron age civilizations and new enemies like organised crime

Yearning for adventure, he tries to adapt to this new world, wearing modern clothes and trying modern weapons and gadgets with varying degrees of success

And decides to explore this new world, not through a plane and while also carrying loads of swords, knives, maces, axes etc on his person

Along the way antagonists from his home, like the Chaos-esque entities and their worshippers arrive on Earth and cause trouble which he deals with

That just made me realize that the best way for him to deal with his enemies would be to do some heroic action, get the attention of the world governments and then...advise them on how to deal with these threats, while cracking the heads himself ocassionally. Just imagine this CONAN THE CONSULTANT! I am pretty sure that hasn't been written about or hasn't been written about much, there are a multitude of stories about someone from Earth advising people from the settings or even wholesale advancing them on their own, but I can't recall something like that in reverse.

And if this is a Conan-esque setting, wouldn't it be more interesting if you stuck it as a mythic past? Like Conan (and LOTR) actually were?

Robert E. Howard’s idea of the Noble Savage makes it so that while they are primitive and brutal, as prone to raiding and slavery as all other “civilized” peoples, they also lack the hypocrisy, laziness and decadence of “civilized” nations and are more straightforward

You’d think him dumb only to find that he’s VERY aware of the complications of politics and DISGUSTED by it

Reminds me, there’s a Hellboy character who was a BPRD Agent who held onto an ancient Hyperborian sword and ended up having his mind travelling into the past and sort kf fused with a primitive stone age human during the times when humanity was having to deal with eldritch horrors preying upon them. Though I don’t think he fully recalled his modern memories, he was even thinkinh himself as that primitive man

That said, ever read Almuric? It’s about Esau Cairn, a Conan-esque dude who has the (un)fortune to be born in the 20th century where his more “barbaric” behavior not being compatible with that time made him really unhappy and also viewed as dangerous as him being angered or threatened meant he was more likely to attack than the usual person and because his body and mind look almost made for combat hr unintentionally hury people in sports

To avoid being arrested for a crime he did not commit, he chooses to get the help of a scientist who transports him to a world named Almuric where he actually fits in and prospers with adventure to come

Oh, I meant something like a dude from a Conan-esque setting being in modern day earth. Though the reverse could also occur

I know what you meant, which is why I was trying to expand on it. And I can remember that, Conan is a warrior-poet.

And I'll have to look into that book. Sounds neat.

Here's my recommendation, but I can't link it due to site being NSFW

Monster Girls 2020 by Opie Anderson, found on TouchFluffyTail

Basic premise is that a modernised magitek "Umbral Kingdoms" full of Mamono and Incubi from the Monster-Girl-Encyclopedia world got its continent merged onto Earth's with the hope of getting lots of human husbands

Most of the fics set in it are about ordinary guys who get Mamono girlfriends

They sorta end up interfering with what political problems were already occurring. Mamono don't go to countries like India and Saudi Arabia by choice. The USA, Japan and South Korea all like Mamono and allow them immigration and monsterization. And Europe looks to be at war with itself and sorta taken over by Muslims who call Mamono "demons" and don't like them.

At least on this earth, you're likely to get a waifu that loves ya, the feminists and bitchy human women don't seem to like it

It looks fascinating. What’s it about?
A modern Japanese girl got to 1400BC Anatolia, Hittite Empire. Her existence mess with the imperial politics. I've been mining some of the chapters for my novel ideas as well.

Also, I've been meddling with a "Modern Man in Hideyoshi Toyotomi's Court" idea myself and it's proving quite interesting...
