Japan adopted Western Knowledge/Technology & Trade much earlier?

Basically, as the title says, for whatever the reason the Japanese decide to go and sorta open their borders if only to keep up with world advances in technology

And maybe go conquer China while at it

How does the world look like with Japan doing this much earlier

Well, the tech they'd be adopting would be earlier tech. Go back a few centuries and the European powers weren't much in advance of the Chinese.
Part of what made Japan (and China for that matter) fall behind was their ideology - not wanting any foreign influence, rejecting anything that would rock the boat or challenge the way things were done.
So your scenario needs a Japan with a quite different outlook.
