As your enjoying your long weekend, remember that Monday is Memorial Day where in the United States, we honor and mourn those who died while serving in the U.S. military. It's also the last day in the Month in the horribly under-recognized Military Appreciation Month. There's about twenty or thirty potential origins of Memorial Day and most of them date from around the Civil War and involve the placing of flowers or flags and even pennies onto the graves of the military dead.

One event taking place today is the 32nd National Memorial Day Concert, which will be streamed live on PBS as well as on YouTube and Facebook this evening.

PBS said:
America’s national night of remembrance features: distinguished American statesman General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret); “Empress of Soul” and seven-time Grammy Award-winner Gladys Knight; country music superstar and 22-time Grammy Award-winner Vince Gill; Grammy Award-winner, Tony and Emmy Award-nominated singer, songwriter, actress and author Sara Bareilles; multi-platinum selling country music icon and Grammy, CMA and ACM Award-winner Alan Jackson; Emmy and Grammy Award-winning international mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves; Motown legends and Rock and Roll Hall of Famers The Four Tops; Broadway, film and television star Brian d’Arcy James; the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly; a new special edition of annual audience favorite Salute to Services with the Joint Chiefs of Staff from the Pentagon; and a special message from General Mark A. Milley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Country music star and Grammy-nominee Mickey Guyton will open the show with a special performance of the national anthem.

The National Memorial Day Concert airs on PBS, Sunday, May 30, 2021, from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. E.T., as well as to our troops serving around the world on the American Forces Network. The concert will also be streaming on Facebook, YouTube and www.pbs.org/national-memorial-day-concert and available as Video on Demand, May 30 to June 13, 2021. Also participating are members from The U.S. Army Herald Trumpets, The U.S. Army Voices and Army Chorus, The Soldiers’ Chorus of the U.S. Army Field Band, The U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters, The U.S. Air Force Singing Sergeants, and Service Color Teams provided by the Military District of Washington, D.C.

Since Norman Rockwell's 'Freedom of Speech' Painting is a meme now, I suppose this is appropriate for Memorial Day 2023.

Norman Rockwell's 'The Homecoming Marine' October 1945.
Good for USA.Polish soldiers could not come home,or if they tried, ended in prisons/massgraves.
Thanks to USA stupid betreyal.

If USA bombed soviets then and there, there would be no Korean and Vietnam wars in which american soldiers died later.

But,it is not fault of american soldiers - so,even if they do not died for Poland freedom,i do not blame them.

Why not?
They died valiantly for USA - but, becouse FDR and Truman failed to crush soviets which they could do easily with little loses, next generation must die in Korea and Vietnam.
And USA faced nuclear extintion, which was avoided only becouse last soviet rulers do not belive in their shit.

If Sralin or even Kruszczow face dillemma - burn world or let soviet union fall, both would burn world.

So,they should be remembered - but we also should remember, that their sacrifise would be for notching if last soviet rulers belived in their religion.
Which could be avoided - if USA crushed soviets in 1945 or 1946.

This is a thread about the day and the memorial of those lost, not to shove accusations of things here.

Happy Belated Memorial Day to all of the Military Veterans who served in the US Armed Forces including the Army National Guard & Air National Guard.

Especially military veterans like myself & lots of family members of both sides of the family!
