United States New Nuclear Reactor Goes Online in Georgia

Interesting! (y)

Hopefully, the reactor works as advertised and Green whining keeps to a minimum. Judging by the contents of the article, there doesn't seem to be any outcry so far (which is good), so maybe there is promise for a gradual normalization of nuclear power as more and more nations realize they don't have much of a choice.

We have plenty of other NPPs in the US.
The Powers That Be wouldn't basically wipe out a large portion of the country in any way if it mean they would have less control, because it would also hurt blue staye

Nuclear is the realistic solution to the energy problems.

No matter how much it pisses off the greens, its the solution that creates the most amount of energy and the least amount of carbon. Is it perfect no but its the realistic solution.

How long did the plant take to build? I've heard the permits and regulations make it take like... 20 years or so from starting the process to finish.

I might be wildy off.
Plant Vogtle Unit 3 (the one that just came online) began construction in 2009. Unit 4 began construction at the same time and is expected to connect to the grid in the last quarter of this year.

Units 1 and 2 of the plant were completed in 1987 and 89 respectively.
