What If? Plotting An Actual Saints Row Sequel...

So... Saints Row is a much beloved franchise which... with Saints Row IV... really jumped the plot shark. Without a serious retcon (Saints Row has plenty of retcons after all with in universe reasons for people to come back for example) And taking Gat Out of Hell into consideration, where exactly... would you take a sequel of Saints Row if given the ability and resources to plot out that game idea?

Now generally some things happened rather canonically:

The Alien Conqueror Zinyak Blew Up Earth.
The Saints and Surviving Humans Are On a SpaceShip.
Johnny Gat Went Into Hell and Defeated Satan, Earning Gods Favor.

Where should Saints Row go from there?

Two of the endings from Gat Out of Hell seem relevant to this as sequel bait.

1. God Finds a New Home For What Remains of Humanity.

Johnny returns to The Ship, where Kinzie has found a perfect planet to serve as a homeworld. However, it is inhabited by a psychotic warlike race, making this their toughest fight ever. Johnny smiles and thanks God. This could be seen as the Saints Row IVK Ending so to speak IMHO. :p

2. Have God recreate the Earth and retcon the entire world of Saints Row.

This could be seen as basically a retcon which wouldn't be a proper sequel IMHO unless you only utilize the first part "ie God recreates the Earth" and maybe he does it with everyone that died when the planet exploded coming back to life? This could open up the story in different ways.

Where would you take the Saints Row franchise if given that unlimited Creative Power?

I think instead of going to Space, somehow bring the Saints back to an Earth that has been reassembled by God would be the better option, especially if its one that is still suffering the after effects of Zinyak's Invasion. I would probably give it a post-apocalyptic theme for the city it would be returning to with the Saints having to rebuild Stilwater, their ancestral home. It might require some retconning as I don't think Earth was too devastated and the option God gave was actually a reboot, but I don't think its too much of a loss.

Having the Saints rebuilding Stilwater would offer plenty of options and minigames and quests to explore, as well as new and old factions to contest with in the struggle for power in the post-apocalypse. Plus the Saints Row game skewering the very popular genre of apocalyptic fiction would be great since there's a lot of pop culture one can deal with that can be placed into the game world.

So the Saints winding up in the Fallout version of Stillwater? Well part of the Row looked like it was post apocalyptic. Use the map from SR 2 and you may be golden.

Their version of the Children of Atom setting up camp on the reactor island would be funny and there is always Ultor. They could have the Ultor sector walled off Ala New Vegas with an Anti Ultor faction hidden inside the secret mountain base.
