Tone feels a bit off, as I recall Reacher in the book was basically dead serious the entire time. That said, the tone's not really a key part of the character so that can get tweaked a bit in adaptation.
I think it's a great target for adaption, since the core of the series is just the same knight errant type adventure that you don't even need to follow the plot of the books for, you just need the character and can send them off on an original adventure if you want, and that's a plot that lends itself to serialization within seasons and then a clean break in between seasons as he leaves town and later stumbles onto some other plot elsewhere. And after show and show has gotten bogged down in a never ending series long myth arc, I really like the idea of a more compartmentalized work.
