While he's obviously well known and iconic I never was exposed to many of his films since he seemed largely inactive by the time I grew up. Only film I can recall seeing him in off the top of my head is that pretty standard action movie The Jackal where he starred alongside Richard Gere in trying to prevent an assassination by Bruce Willis villain character.

One of his most iconic scenes of course is as Police Detective Virgil Tibbs in 1967's In the Heat of the Night.

Never heard of the guy until today, but from the clips it is obvious that he was a top notch actor.

It is really sad that the passion and effort he and other actors of his generation put into their work is no longer around.

And that the usual suspects are using this to parrot the usual SJW gibberish.
