Just a thread for people to post links to enjoy the power metal band Sabaton, who just released a new album about WWI, "The Great War".

Here's an entry from said album, "82nd All The Way".

The Sabaton website. For the benefit of poor benighted souls who've never encountered the awesomeness of Sabaton.

Perhaps this doesn't fit, perhaps it does, but some of the older members of Sabaton spun-off into Civil War--and they have something of the same feel to their music.

In case the above isn't appropriate...I suppose I'll pay a...Sabatax?:sneaky:

Must say I was grossly, grossly disappointed in this not being a remake of the Johnny Horton song. I kind've would've loved to hear that done with screaming guitar, heavy drums, and Broden's voice. On the other hand, at least they lifted the 'terror of the seas' bit for the chorus (or, at least, I assume they lifted it. It now occurs to me that could've been a contemporary nickname or propaganda statement for the Bismarck).

To add to the awesome music, Sabaton has a Youtube channel talking about the history behind the songs, as well as the history of the song itself. It's actually quite interesting to see how these guys gain their inspiration, and at times you might learn a few things about history that you otherwise might not know.

One of my favorite songs by Sabaton is "Counterstrike", about the Six Day War.

I remember at the concert he mentioned that one of the bsnd members is part Finnish and wouldn't stop pestering them until they made a song about Lauri Törni.

And he really deserves it, too. I was talking with someone a year or two ago about him and he remarked, quite seriously, on wanting to know whether or not his name was on the wall at MacDill.

Don't forget they have an actual History Channel as well, cohosted by Indy Neidell of World War Two, Time Ghost and The Great War fame.

In my opinion this is the best Sabaton cover,

And probably one of their most appropriate ending songs.

Well, there's alot, but if there are other groups go ahead. Iced Earth's "The Glorious Burden" was pretty good too.

Yeah I know. I just never really listened to much Sabaton. If I listened to metal (which I didn't very often in general sadly) and had a military/historical theme it was usually songs by bands like Saxon or even Iron Maiden. :)
