Trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 dropped a few days ago.
As I recall reading someone half-snarkily comment somewhere: "The anticipated sequel to 2020s sixth most high-grossing release, 2020s top-grossing superhero movie, and the highest-grossing video-game adaptation of all time!"
Looks like the same kind of kind'a-campy, cliche family-friendly stuff the first film was, for however much a trailer is worth judging anything on. They do seem to have gone ham on the game/universe references for the trailer though--chili dog eatin', Tails with his biplane, Sonic snowboarding, the logo itself with the twintails...A bigger sonic fan might spot more. But, that's probably nothing weird for an adaptation, just strikes me for some reason. Seems like they're intentionally packing the trailer with them? I dunnow.
By the short bit there...Not entirely sure about Idris Elba's voice on Knuckles, honestly? It's deep and villainous and I dunnow how much that works on a CGI echidna that punches stuff and will almost-inevitably become a good guy at the climax (*Elba as Shadow, if they ever get/got that far might've fit better? *shrug* This is all based off, like, one line and my own squishy feelings so)...
...But then I'm also biased because:
I've peeked-in on a handful of episodes of 'Sonic Boom', and Knuckles is pretty much great there...Though maybe that's my own dumb sense of humor, not anything to do with voice-acting. *shrug*
Still, looks like dumb fun.
