So, this is an area where we can all share those fun little events that life has thrown at us that were completely unexpected!

And I'll begin with what caused me to post the thread up...

I've got a 6' fence around my back yard. It's a bit old, and there's some dry rot so I've been thinking about replacing it for a while. What's held me back has been the increased expense of lumber and supplies.

Weeeeeeeellllll...last night we got a bit of a storm with some high winds. I slept through it so big deal, right? Then I took my dogs into the back yard after breakfast and saw that I had a 30-40' hole where that part of my fence as just lying down in my neighbor's back yard.

Long story short, I spend my morning getting goat panels from the family ranch, some t-posts and tools in order to cover up that patch. I've also spoken with three different contractors to get my entire fence replaced. Yippeee! Who needs to spend time at the office trying to make money?z

Anyway, what things were you surprised to find that altered the day?

My garden is #^&* this year. We had sudden unexpected freezes as late as April that wiped out all my plants and then a torrential flood last month that dropped a foot of rain in a couple hours and washed away half the garden along with my carefully-cultivated leaf mold mulch.

It's June and I'm back to planting seedlings, and the grasshoppers are visibly eating them as fast as I plant. I'm going to be lucky to get a single tomato this year. The only things that were doing well were my onions and even those got flattened in the flood and are struggling back up.

The AC compressor in my car has shit the bed. And the temps this week are near 100 degrees F. So I mostly just go out when the Sun is low in the sky. So around 6 and 7pm. And it won't be until next month that I can get if fixed because also this month I have to pay my Car Tax. And it is not cheap either.

Because of issues in the supply chain, I recommend you get with your repair man to make sure the parts your car will need are actually available when you take it in to get fixed. I've got a customer that's waiting for an AC Part which is back ordered to the "no discernable date" category.

Unforturately this month money is really really tight. As in 3 big bills hitting in the same month. I have to pay over a grand worth of bills this month. Hence why I had to back burner it for a few weeks.
