As the title suggests, the Pacific ocean cleanup is getting under way with the proof of System 002 working. System 003 looks to be even better and also a possible collect even more garbage. This is what I call progress on this issue.

Update:

They're installing Interceptor Barriers in Jamaica to help stem the flow of plastic into the oceans. This is one of several methods the great ocean cleanup is using to stop the flow of plastic at its source.

More updates will be provided as they become available.

Some Updates on the progress of the Ocean and river cleanups.

Progress report on the Interceptors in Jamaica.

Interceptors 008, 009, and 010 have collected ≈1357 kg of trash in Kingston, Jamaica. The trash collected in these gullies so far mainly consists of PET bottles. With a median weight of ≈20 g for a half-liter PET water bottle, you do the math!

We are still trialing and optimizing this setup – special attention goes to the offloading process that will be put to the test during the rainy season when we expect a larger trash influx.

Coldplay adopted Interceptor 005, Neon Moon 1, is operational in Jamaica. Interceptor 005 is our first deployment of the third-generation design updated for efficiency and quicker production.

We transformed the plastic catch from System 001/B into our first product – sunglasses and have recently reached the goal to fund the cleaning of 500,000 football fields worth of ocean. Here are some reflections about the entire journey from trash to treasure.

Sunglasses are out of stock. They've reached their funding goals.

End of February 2022, we reached our goal of funding the cleanup of half a million football fields' worth of the ocean with our first ocean plastic product. Every one of The Ocean Cleanup Sunglasses has found its owner. As a non-profit, we direct all of the proceeds into our ongoing cleanup operations in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (GPGP). This achievement marks the proof of concept that we can create value from the ocean plastic catch: the material can be recycled into high-quality consumer products, giving people a tangible way to support us and help raise funds for the mission.

Artificial Intelligence is being used to monitor plastic density in the oceans.

A key objective for our Research Team is to provide data-driven insights to help us determine optimal locations for cleanup operations. New technology and tools that use artificial intelligence (AI) are helping us to create detailed maps of plastic densities in remote ocean locations.
