This thread is for a discussion of the various 6th Generation fighters that are being researched and developed today. What are your thoughts on the various programs and which do you have concerns about?

I will start if off. The NGAD program I have mixed feelings on. The FAXX program is pretty straight forward. It will be a 6th Gen Carrier capable fighter. What is says on the tin. But the Air Force NGAD program??? I am trying really hard to figure out why they are calling it a fighter. What they are describing sounds more like a small stealth bomber than a fighter. And if it is just a small bomber. Could a modified version of the B 21 Raider not do they same thing. Since they think Dogfigthing is a thing of the past.

I mean...they called the F117 a fighter. So there's some consistency at least.

It is going to be a multi platform system
Bombing, fighting, etc

They only did that because the the A designation has Navy/ Marine Corps cooties in their minds.

Yeah but with 4 crewman and being huge you are no longer a fighter you are a bomber. The USAF has as of late been saying things like Dogfighting is dead and missiles will handle all engagements. They are forgetting the lessons of Vietnam. Stealth is all fine and good until your enemy also has decent stealth but their fighter has a gun and can manuver like a traditional fighter. Then your plane is just a big fat target. And other Nations are making big advances in Stealth.

Not to the same level as the US in stealth.
And BVR is a lot further along then it was in Vietnam.

Also, one needs to mention that the NGAD is multiple things. But I definitely have not heard they were gonna have 4 crew

The crew size was brought up a few times in the SandBoxx News on youtube. So the Air Force is leaning torwards that number for crew of the NGAD.

Does crew mean what it takes to maintain and fly or just fly?
And from what I understand they want it to be able to be drone operated as well as human.
So 4 might include drone operators

Loyal Wingmen would be drone,right?

Aside from that - is that true, that China copied F.23 as their 5th generation fighter?
If so,i am sure, that as long as Democrats rule,China would get their 6th generation fighter from USA,too.

The J=20 is an unholy abomination that combines a scrapped Russian Stealth Fighter and the F-22 into one plane. That just happens to be MADE IN CHINA. And with the defects their other military equipment is showing. You can guess at it's quality.

You mean Su57?
But,it officially would be produced,right ?
As far as i knew, they only wait for new radar. And engine. Then they could mass produce it !

NGAD might be going with the drone swarm approach, or at least looking at it.

Basically you have a manned, highly stealthy, platform controlling an entire squadron of (relatively) disposable drones that act as EWAR and strike platforms.

Pilot, Electronic Warfare dude, drone manager, and a co-pilot.

Can't really operate that way off of a carrier thanks to space constraints but for the Air Force operating from land bases it offers a lot of advantages. Especially against modern and reasonably near future air defense networks.

Pfft, all will fall before the Russian 6th gen. It will be the size of the Hercules but have better kinematics than any existing fighter and the radar cross section of a grain of rice from the wost aspect. It'll launch a fleet of hundreds of drones, each equipped with air-breathing nuclear engines for unlimited performance and to power their many on board lasers, AESA radar and EW/comms. For it's primary armament it will have a turreted cannon firing hypersonic 120mm depleted uranium gyrojets, at twice the RoF of the GAU-8 with 360x360 coverage. It'll have 16 external pylons capable of carrying anything up to the Sarmat missile. Through advanced machine learning and experimental brain/machine interface technology the single operator will achieve true gestalt, sensor-fusion with all other systems in theatre and instantaneous communication. It will also only cost 7 roubles, and every man, woman and child in Russia will be trained on their own personal platform.

You forget mention, that it would also carry 10 Armata tanks, who could be dropped on enemy lines on parachutes !
