Yeah, guy really kept trying to be all "smug reasonable" compared to us, only I'm pretty sure he ended up admitting things like how moronic your western education system is along with how wasteful non-STEM courses are
Trying to portray the "Western education system" as a cohesive entity is ridiculous. The United States education system is often incredibly different from institution to institution, let alone state to state. Then lumping it in with the education systems of countries like the UK, Iceland, Finland, and Switzerland or Germany? It just becomes laughable.
With Non-STEM courses, its all about context. Someone who has a talent for writing may very well benefit from a creative writing course. If they have the inclination and talent needed to write professionally, it even may make sense. That holds for a lot of Non-Stem courses. However, I do think that there are far too many people taking Non-STEM courses who lack the talent to use them; but the same thing could be said to some extent of even STEM courses.
Plus some Non-STEM courses are needed for STEM students. I highly doubt most engineers want to come off as an illiterate troglodyte in the workplace.
