Things that piss you off about fiction?

Tyzuris

Primarch to your glory& the glory of him on Earth!
My number 1 is when the showrunners have no certainty that their show will receive a next season and gamble and end it in a cliffhanger and the show ends up getting cancelled.

Like Stargate Atlantis. Atlantis is now on Earth. Big change to status quo. What happens next on the final season? Cancelled! Gotta get all attention to discount Battlestar Galactic AKA Universe. Ok let's try a movie form finishing SGA. Not happening. It was such a huge disappointment.

The realistic/modern/practical/military/streetclothes look for superheroes

Not just in the Movies and TV Shows, but their insistence on making the comics change for those, like with Spiderwoman’s non spandex outfit or Batgirl’s now replaced hipster design

They were already wearing spandex, covered enough like the dudes, did they have to replace them with clothes

At least its easier to cosplay admittedly

It is the opposite of this but shows that drag on and on.

Where the authors had a good plot for five seasons and they it got renewed only to have no where left to go. It is more common in sitcoms like Friends.

It is one reason I am happy they ended Big Bang when they did. I know the show gets a lot of hate for not portraying Nerds correctly, even if I think they generally do. But at its base it is a story of people growing up. Yes, they are all older at the start of the show. But they are basically grown man childs. But throughout the show they grow and learn and you even see their priorities change. The last season they where running out of places to go and the show was becoming more serious. So they left on high note and stated a spin off.

But some shows like Glee should have ended a season sooner. Despite Fox playing havoc with the last seasons schedule it was a mess. The writers had no plan for when the main cast graduated. All that was left where under developed side charaters and a bunch of new ones no one careed about.

On a more Sci-Fi bent Eureka should have ended sooner too. Once they had the Time Travel plotline and Fargo leading GD the show just went downhill.

Badass Normal+Combat Pragmatism wank, both in-universe and out

Specifically, I hate the sort of thinking that simply being aware of your surroundings and playing dirty or skipping a fight by doing something like nuking a place from afar

Means that this character is “better” than the guy with BOTH skill and power

Or that the latter isn’t needed when you can improvise tools, use surroundings and lay traps

A willingness to go for the groin as well as throw dust in someone’s eye may not work against a guy with BOTH skill and power, because the moment you three that kick, it turned out he already trained for surprise attacks and has a body that reacts real fast to attacks and in turn is willing to gouge your eyes out

Emotional Powerups, I don’t care if its powered by friendship or by super edgy anger and hatred, it sorta skips out on actually having the skills and abilities and thinking to actually defeat an enemy

Unless they know techniques specifically to release limiters of the body, then I won’t accept it

Also, Gurren Lagann counts here

That's based on real life, plenty of instances of people pumped up by fear, rage or extreme need doing superhuman things. Supposed to be tied to sudden massive surges in adrenalin and other natural stimulants in the body.
Usually things like normal people lifting a couple of tons worth of car to save someone trapped underneath. Funnily enough Jack Kirby apparently saw this happen and it served as the basis for creating the Hulk who basically is this phenomenon incarnate.

While it might work in melee, giving more strength to your blows, it doesn't work with guns though, it will actually make you miss even more.

It might work with other skills, though. Getting pissed in the middle of a gunfight will make you more reckless and more willing to take risks. That's not as good as being a levelheaded operator, but it is certainly a step up from someone who is too afraid to stick his head out of cover.

I still don’t like how it can give an extra and/or permanent super upgrade or new powers even

Ever watch Senki Zesshou Symphogear? High powered emotional music is established as a way for powerups there

I honestly prefer that things go like Kengan Asura/Omega

Nakama Power, SHHER RAGE or Resolve or DETERMINATION or even going fucking INSANE won’t save you from an actually superior opponent

Though, yeah, some characters there have conscious/unconscious skills to unlock physical limits but those actually have drawbacks and can’t be spammed and they still lose to a superior opponent

Massive changes between books and movies. I understand that you have to cut things out for time or certain effects are not possible. But take Mortal Engines. They massively reworked a lot of plot points for little purpose. Let alone books like Starship troopers or I Robot.

Also unneed 3d scenes. This has died off but Avatar brought with it a ton of 3d movies. For a while every movie had to have a 3d version and you could tell scenes where added for it. Even movies like the Hobbit in the Goblin caves added scenes that had little to add expect show 3d effects. That is one thing I am glad to see dying down.

Characters who are repeatedly called crazy/insane, when really they’re mostly only doing really dangerous stuff because there’s not many other options to get things done and they are either doing it for self survival(when just suddenly running away or pausing for too long will get you killed as they will come and attack you anyway)or for the sake of someone else

Cray/Insane that most people are a bunch of selfish cowards? Yes

Also, to said selfish cowards, give a better option on how to deal with a dangerous situation with little options

And if you call a guy who continues to fight and survive crazy, well what option does he have except to keep on going and fighting

Try to talk it over with the guys and monsters trying to murder him and worse? Live as a hermit even though they will gradually come for him and others?

Give a better or safer or smarter option, one that preferably saves people, or don’t

Never heard of them what are they like?

Seinen manga compared to other manga tends to make it so that the majority of society, even family and friends, are purposely turning their eyes away from tragedy at best or extremely willing to follow the crowd and turn into huge bastards and even betray said long known friends and family they care for

Either out of fear and hatred or because society has deemed that person someone to discriminate or dislike

It also shares stuff like Shoujo Manga bullies who are very psychological and do things like vandalise desks with threats and insults to putting horrible stuff in their extra shoes in their lockers and stuff

Usually, people watch and do nothing in that case

Well, that’s what I tend to see

As for Garth Ennis, lets just say he makes huge percentages of people ridiculously horrible, petty, cowardly, evil and downright ridiculous....you should see what he made his superheroes in The Boys like....because that’s “realistic”

Though honestly, it could be taken as less specifically at superheroes and more about celebrities. One of said “superheroes” was a horrible homophobe who pretended to be gay because his agents wanted him to appeal to that demographic and make em look progressive. This was before the 2010s

I have not read the books but I did watch the T.V. in General the heros are not much better then the Villains in the Boys. Outside of Annie and Hughie almost all of them should be locked up. Even those two start to become jaded by the end of season one as they are pushed more and more.

The one thing 5he Boys did decently is give almost every some decent motivations and avoided Staurday morning cartoon evil just because.

But overall it reminded me a lot of the late 80's early 90's superhero comics especially some of the Batman DC runs. Where every thing is bad and there is no good. At least Marvel and DC have decided to not make every story like that. They have focused on making the villain have better motivations but overall they have their heros be real heros.

@Argent
Just so you know, Garth Ennis for some reason HATES superheroes

Look up his version of the X-Men, the G-Men

They are supposed to be a “deconstruction”

When they try and push thier agendas and make it super obvious. Like in one of the X-men black comics magneto destroyed a mutant child camp (a stand in for the immigrant camps where children are held till they are deported) and made then seem like "BIG BAD GUYS WHO ARE DESTROYING LIVES!!"... gah.
Then you have the whole ignited comic series about super powered Antifa members basically causing huge issues and pushing a leftist agenda...like making things subtle and giving a look many dont have and it makes you think. That's fine. But when you literally have a comic about a group of teens that get superpowers from a school shooting...and then go on to cause issues by causing a giant riot from a peaceful protest. This is like one of a couple examples of what I hate about modern fiction that is liberal arts related.
