It wouldn't surprise me if they just straight up cancelled or postponed the elections in an attempt to stop Trump from winning again, and unironically doing the exact specific thing they accuse Trump of wanting to do if he gets reelected. The question is whether they can give such orders with any realistic expectation of being obeyed.

They are also becoming divided against each other now, so any one faction of them that openly came out with "you know what, let's just ditch this whole constitution thing, have no more elections, and simply rule by decree from now on" might well be eaten by their rivals.

Hard to take this notion seriously when there are republicans winning by landslides and even one of the years you mentioned (2022) was a republican victory in the house(only marginal) and DeSantis had a blowout. Even a place like Seattle saw the first Republican in a generation elected (a prosecutor.). You are just going to have to accept that most Americans, which includes the military, are not buying this narrative that Trump lost due to fraud. 2020 was a stressful fucking year and the left pulled no punches on attacking him via every means they had. It's really not at all hard to believe a people locked in their homes were willing to try anything to turn things around.
