From the balcony of the palace, the fire raging across the city wasn’t so bad… so long as he didn’t look up at the sky to see the giant flaming rainbow which constantly rained down burning raindrops… or look at the streets where a herd of rampaging warnicorns were currently running loose. Who was he kidding, things went so horribly out of control when his daughter finally got the Mewni Royal Magic Wand.

“It’s a disaster Moon!” he cried out as he threw his arms up in the air. Calling it a disaster actually downplayed just how much mayhem their daughter caused.

“It’s… yes, it’s a total disaster River, but it’s tradition!” His wife cried out as she sat at the edge of their bed while she had her face buried in her hands.

“Hmmm, I say she actually reminds me of Crescenta. She even has the same flair with her spells.” Commented Moon's loyal adviser as he floated by the window and watched what was happening below.

“She has potential yes but… if this is going to be what’s going to happen every other week. I’m not sure the treasury can handle it, Glossaryck.” He replied as he massaged his forehead and paced around.

“Moon, I know it’s tradition but couldn’t you have at least delayed the handing over ceremony until we found someone to help Star become more… mature?” River asked before he winced as he heard an explosion from a distance.

“I tried River, but everyone’s busy! Omnitraxus Prime and Hekkapoo have been pulling double shifts trying to patch up the holes in reality, Rhombulus has been locking up an ever increasing number of maniacs, Lekmet has his own project and even the Oracle has her hands full and don’t get me started on my own workload!” Moon shouted as she stood up and paced around as well. River sucked in his breath as he remembered the ever increasing amounts of things to fix across the Multiverse. Even he couldn’t be around Star most of the time with the skulls he had to smash. There have been a concerning amount of megalomaniacs ever since the whales dropped by.

“We… we fucked up. We can’t just let her loose with the wand. Who knows what could happen!” He despaired, worrying himself sick at how Star might hurt herself with the wand. Yes, their daughter can throw spells like nobody's business but it’s not assured that she’ll be safe from her own spells.

“Let me think…” Moon replied as she reached up for her crown and pulled it off her head, slowly spinning it in her grasps while she paced.

“I'd be loath to suggest this but… we might need the help of St Olga’s.” He suggested but before he could talk further, he cut himself off as Moon stared back at him.

“No, that’s our last option.” Moon replied, putting her foot down on that matter as she gained a distant look in her eyes. “St. Olgas don't reform princesses, they break princesses. I’ve seen way too many of my friends go there to even consider throwing Star in with those beasts.” She added as she shivered at some distant memories he wasn’t privy to.

“What other choice do we have?” He then asked. They were running out of choices and with Star having the wand, the need to get her to grow up and mature as fast as possible was now on the table. They could no longer ignore the problem they accidentally created in the first place.

“You can call your brother.” Glossaryck then suggested. He turned towards the enigmatic being for a second before he blinked as he realized that was also a suggestion but there was a tiny problem.

“We… we could call…” Moon replied with a slow nod but indecision was painted all over her face. She looked away from Glossaryck and towards the innocent pocket mirror over at their nightstand. “We can call my brother…” she then said as she gave up.

“You're estranged… brother? I mean, he was always the responsible one.” He replied as he vaguely remembered the man. “But didn’t he make it clear that he doesn’t want to come back to Mewni?” he then added.

“We’re not going to ask him to come to Mewni to train Star, we’re going to his dimension so that we can have him foster Star.” Moon replied as she took in a deep breath before walking over to the phone to call him.

“Ahh.” He nodded in understanding. That might actually work, he thought to himself before he asked. “Where is his dimension exactly? I can’t recall. It’s been a while since we last visited him, especially after his wife's funeral.”

“It’s a place called…Earth Bet, The Oracle's home dimension. Now, let me just call him.” Moon answered as she dialed him up before waiting for him to answer. That mirror was their only communication with him. The man has become rather reclusive this past few years/

“Heyyy, Diony-I meant Danny! It’s been a while. Are you busy?” His wife called out as her brother finally picked up. With nothing better to do, he sat down by the bed and listened to the conversation.

“Yes, I remember what you said about Mewni. It’s just asking if you're busy today?” She said reassuringly before asking.

“No, I’m not asking you if you want to come for the Butterfly-Johansen family reunion, I know how you hate how competitive our cousins can be. Actually I was going to ask the opposite!... Danny, when I said I didn’t like the family reunion, I meant it. I’m not going to bring the family there! They’d destroy everything!” He could only roll his eyes at that. His own family wasn’t immune to the shenanigans. Couldn’t they at least make things less competitive he asked to himself.

“I was going to ask if we can come by today, or tomorrow,... why are you asking Star’s Age?... Yes, she’s 14. Ok, ok, I fucked up. It’s just been rather stressful Danny. The work never stops.” He nodded in agreement. There was no rest, just more and more work…

“I get what you mean. I’m sorry for imposing. We’ll be there in a few hours. Thank you!” Moon replied as she sighed out in relief after the call ended.

“I take that Dionysus agreed?” He asked. The smile on her face was a good sign.

“Yes but please call him Danny. You know how much he loves the name his wife gave him.” He winced as he remembered the man's wife. He should… really remember to use that name rather than the man's original given name.

“Right. I’ll call the servants so we can pack up!” He then said as he got up and walked out to gather the servants.

“Thank you dear.” His wife replied as she sat down on the bed and sagged in worry.

Just before he left, heard his wife say, “Oh Oracle! I didn’t know you were here all this time. What can I do for you?”

He shrugged as he left the two. The Oracle worked in mysterious ways. Now, if they didn’t wear all black most of the time then the people of Mewni wouldn’t be so scared of her whenever she dropped by for some food. Speaking of food, he was now quite hungry. Maybe there’s some pastries in the kitchen or even some of Moon’s leftover pies!

Chapter 1
Chapter 1

Far far away in a magical kingdom called Mewni, there lived a princess… who knew she was going to get in so much trouble right now because the sky is burning and a wild herd of Warnicorns are on the loose. Maybe the people that called her reckless and irresponsible were right, but could they blame her for wanting a bit of fun and danger? It’s as normal as barricading oneself in their own room afterwards.

“Star Butterfly! Open this door this instant or I will!” Shouted her mother as the pile of furniture shooked from the force of her knocking.

“Oh boy, she’s pissed.” She whispered to herself while she hid under her bed. There was currently no way of escaping as she tried to open up a portal with her dimensional scissors once again to no avail as all her scissors did was make sparkly glitter. She really hated how her mom and the guardian of all dimensional travel, Hekkapo, were best buds.

She hasn’t really tried using her wand yet to teleport herself out of the situation but she wasn’t counting on that one considering the giant flaming rainbow outside. She only wanted to make a rainbow, a nice normal rainbow to cheer everyone up and tell them that her reign as the guardian of Mewni was fast approaching. Maybe she should have studied a bit harder but all the glittering combat spells were too much to pass up.

“Star! I’m counting down to three and if you don’t open this door I swear to the source of all magic you will regret it!” Her mother threatened once more. She winced at her tone and she was really going to get in trouble now! Only her father could calm her mother down but with the way the door shook, it seems her father was the one knocking instead.

Still, she had to stay positive! Speaking of best buds, she can still turn to the one person she can always count on. Rolling out of her bed, she bounded for her magic mirror and speed dialed her fellow princess slash bestie for life, Princess Pony Head.

“One!” Shouted her mother and the castle shook.

“Come on, come on! Pick up!” She shouted in panic. Thankfully Pony Head wasn’t busy right now with her party. Her reflection quickly shifted to that of her friend. The bodyless unicorn was currently laying down on a beach chair while her eyes were covered with cucumber slices. Around her were various other unicorns serving her.

“Pony Head speaking. Who is this? Better make it snappy cause I’m currently in the middle of the spa treatment and you don’t want any of this if you’re going to waste my time.” Snapped Pony head.

“Pony Head! I need your help!” She cried out in panic as she gripped the edge of the large mirror.

“Star!? Oh hey gurl! You’re in so much trouble right now! Oh honey I wouldn’t wish anyone on your shoes right now.” laughed out Pony Head before taking a sip from a fruit shake served in a tall glass.

“This is serious! Like super serious! I need you to open up a portal for me!” Star begged her besties as the count down ticked closer to her reckoning.

“Two!” and the windows slammed shut while the lights flickered off in her room, plunging it to darkness with only the mirror serving as the only lightsource. Star let out a scream as she turned around and faced the door.

“No can do Star. Too far away from my scissors and my father’s breathing down my neck with how things are. Tell you what, I’m going to visit you once I get back home. I’m sure St. Olga’s wouldn’t be bad. Love you Star! Hugs and kisses.~” and with those words, her only hope was snuffed out and thus the bells tolled at midnight.

“Three!” shouted her mother as silence descended down on her room. She was hyperventilating now as she looked for a way out, any way out but there was no escaping now. It was far too late. With a loud boom, her barricade was pushed aside by a powerful kick from her mother and there she loomed over at the door of her room. The light shining behind her and the shadow her mother cast only made her all the more menacing to look at and the fact her father was also there only made it worse.

Still, despite how bleak things were, there was still one thing she could do. Abandoning all semblance of pride and decorum and with her hands firmly grasping her wand, she ran up to her mother and threw herself at her parents feet. Grasping at the older woman's feet, she begged like her dear life depended on it. “Mom! Dad! I’m sorry! I can be good! Please! Just don’t send me to Saint Olga’s Reform School For Wayward Princesses!”

She screamed, crying out in fear as the looming specter of the school called out for her even from several dimensions away. Her begging, however, was successful as her mother and father looked down at her in disappointment rather than the hardened look they sported when they ground her.

“Sweetheart.” called her father reassuringly “We're not sending you there.”

She stopped screaming her lungs off as she looked up to her parents. “Oh…” she said after she stood up and dusted herself off the dust coating her pretty dress.

“Yet.” Added her mother making Star gulp. That was a close one. The threat of St. Olga’s hung over her head like the sword of domonocles, or domeceres something, once more, delaying the terrifying punishment for now.

“We're sending you to be fostered in a safer dimension, a dimension called Earth Bet!” Declared her father magnanimously. That was good, right? She asked herself as she looked at them with confusion. She was happy but she wasn’t also familiar with that place and she knew a lot of places with how she and Pony Head traveled around and fought monsters.

“Earth Bet?” She asked as she tilted her head at them. She was cautious, confused but optimistic. Her father being happy meant that she wasn’t in that much trouble.

“Yes, we realized that we really can’t handle your… youness?” Her mother trailed off. She was touched as she was more fun than most adults or people in general really could handle. ”And so we decided to send you to the one person who can. Your uncle.” her mother added, making her gasp out in surprise.

“I have an Uncle?!” She shouted. How had no one talked to her about her uncle? Who were they? What were they like? She gasped as she realized that his uncle could be like Jushtin the Uncalculated! “Why didn’t you tell me I had an uncle! Are they your older brother? Does this mean I have some birthday gifts to ask for?”

Her mother looked at her confused as she replied “Didn’t you meet him before… no, never mind. You were too young to remember. Anyways, I managed to convince your uncle to train you on the matter of being a proper princess. His daughter should be a shining example of one.” Star couldn’t help but squeal out in delight. How could she not when things kept getting better.

“Wait, wait, wait, I have a cousin!” She asked as she vibrated in place. “This is going to be the best fostering ever!”

“You have a cousin's star.” Her mother drawled out.

“But I don’t have a first degree cousin my age.~” She sang out in reply as she skipped past them and eagerly waited for them to lead the way to the stables.

Her mother raised her finger before putting it down. All her cousins were from her grandmother and grandfather side, second cousins at best and they were horrible! They were so uptight and prim that it hurt to talk to them and what’s worse is that they’re all older than her! They were logs stuck in mud, not sticks in the mud.

“Anyways, come on mom! Let’s go! I can’t wait to meet my cousin and get my birthday presents! All fourteen of them.” She replied smugly. She couldn’t wait to get those presents now.

Her mother and father shared a look and they honestly looked quite happy. Oh sure she was going to be sent for fostering at her age, and girl does it feel like she’d never live this down, but it was way better than having to go to St. Olga’s plus there’s this mysterious cousin she has yet to meet. She hoped she’s just as fun as she was.

Her mother then smiled at her before saying “About your gifts Star. Remember all those books you’ve been receiving since you were young?”

She stopped right at her tracks and cringed as she realized what her mother was implying. “Yesss?” She replied. Those books were good but they got more boring as she got older. Where were the Redwall Books! All she got this year was Mockingjay something.

“Your Uncle and cousin were the ones sending you those books.“ Her mother then answered, making Star deflate. The gifts! Gone! Nothing but ashes in the wind!

“My gifts! I’ll miss thee.” Star whispered as she wiped a stray tear from her face.

Her father gave her a comforting pat before he called on for the servants. It was time to pack up and get her things in order. The things packed were surprisingly light and she actually got to use her casual clothing. No stuffy dresses and ball gowns which made her see her cousin in a better light. The servants worked like a well oiled clock, packing her things and making sure she was dressed for this new world.

With her things packed and the royal stagecoach ready, it was time to leave. The manticores were strapped on their harness and were already pawing at the ground in impatience.

“Manfred! Open the Portal!” Commanded her father and off the Manticores trotted forwards. As much as she was excited about the idea of being fostered, she still felt a bit of melancholy as she looked back at her home. It might be a while since she got back and she’d miss a lot of things here.

“Good bye Mewni!” She called out to a particular no one as she slumped on the window of their coach as they passed by the portal. With a wink, it closed behind them and they were transported to an entirely new world, A new world of endless possibility.

She stared in awe at the city that sprawled before them. It was a city of stone, steel and glass and wasn’t it a wonder to look at. It definitely smelled like a city except smoky and brimstone but not quite with all the passing horseless carriages zoomed by and honking at them; Rude.

“Manfred, have the Manticores go into a canter and stop when the other car’s stop.” Her mother called out as she shut the windows close. She closed off hers as well as the smell was getting to her.

“Now remember Star, this world is a bit… dangerous. So long as you keep to your uncle's side, you should be safe. Also, do tone down on the magic. The natives of this dimension aren't used to too much magic and it would anger Oracle if you did.” Her mother explained.

“Me? In danger?” She asked amused at her mothers worry. “I’ll be fine mom! Besides, I can always kick my problem’s teeth in.”

“You said almost the exact same thing back at your coming of age ceremony.” Her mother reminded her. She winced at being reminded of that incident.

“But seriously mom. Trust me. I’ll be good this time. Promise-!” Star then said before her attention was caught by a blonde haired flash by the window who she was sure was flying. She quickly pressed herself against the window as she tried to find the flying person.

“What was that?!” She cried out as she opened the window and peered out only to be pulled back by her mother.

“What did I tell you about hanging your head outside of the carriage young lady!” Her mother scolded her.

“But flying person!” She said as she pointed at the window while she looked at her mother. There were a lot of flying races but the person that passed by looked far too mewman. They were certainly a race worth looking at if they were indeed more Mewman like.

“Oh that. That was merely this world’s heroes. In fact, here's the young woman from earlier. Good morning young heroine.” Her mother said as she waved at the window. Star gasped as she turned and there keeping up with their coach was a flying mewman, a mewman without wings at that and she had a tiara!

“Hi there flying princess! My names Star!” She greeted much to the amusement of the teenage princess outside their coach.

“Well that’s the first time I’ve been called that and sorry to burst your bubble but I ain’t royalty.” She replied as she and the carriage slowed down as the horseless carriages before them came to a slow stop. “So! Do you have your license with you ma’am?” She then asked with a thousand watt smile. She liked this girl.

“Our coach driver should have the proper paperwork.” Her mother replied.

The girl quirked an eyebrow as she asked. “Oh really? Mind if I ask your driver?”

Her mother rolled her eyes as she replied dismissively “Off course. You’ll find everything in order”. She flew up to their servant before coming back a bit red from embarrassment.

“Oh I’m sorry ma’am. I didn’t know who you were.” The girl apologized.

“We accept your apology but please, next time have some due diligence when it comes to inspecting our royal stagecoach.” Her mother replied. Oh girl, her mother was pissed.

“Y-yeah, I’ll be sure to remember that! Anyways, I’ll have to go now. Welcome to Brockton Bay! Hope you have a wonderful time here!” the flying woman replied before flying off. Brockton bay, what a quaint city. If half the people here are just as interesting, then she’s sure that her stay here will be extra fun!

Chapter 2

The hustle and bustle of the city soon gave way to a less crowded place. There were fewer towers and more townhouses with sprawling lawns around here. There were also a lot less of these ‘cars’ which suited Star just fine. Their riders were some of the rudest people she’d had the pleasure of meeting. People were waving and pointing at them as they passed by. They even had magic mirrors as the people on the side of the street had rectangular mirrors in their hands.

“Mom, are you sure they don’t have magic because I’m seeing a lot of magic here. Look! They have water fountains on their lawns!” She shouted as she pointed at the water sprinkling across the lawns of some of the houses.

“Yes Star, it’s all… physical here.” Her mother replied. Star couldn’t quite believe her with all the things she was seeing.

“It looks pretty magical to me.” She answered back.

Her mother sighed as she pinched the bridge of her nose before replying “Your Uncle and cousin will be better equipped to answer your questions. Now, we’re getting close to their house, so be on your best behavior.” The warning was clear but it shot past her head as she was far too focused on trying to find her uncle’s home.

Star smooshed her face against the glass of the window and tried to look for her cousin's castle. “I don’t see any castles!” She shouted. It was just row after row of pretty yet similar houses. Sure they were colorful and well kept but they looked more like a merchant’s house than anything her other cousins had.

“Danny… always liked to live a simpler life, dear. He prefers homes like these. It honestly has its charms, really. Hey River, do you think we should get a summer home in Bet?” Her mother asked as she turned to her father. He had his contemplative look on his face as he started thinking about it.

“It would be nice dear. Bet does have its problems. Still, a house here wouldn’t be a bad idea, especially since Danny and his daughter can go there as well!” Her father replied with a nod but an interesting detail caught her ears.

“Problems?” She asked. This sounds like some fun! Solving problems was one of the duties of a Mewni Monarch after all and it wouldn’t hurt to solve some of the problems of this dimension.

“Ah yes. Nothing to worry about dear. We’ll pick you up if the local monster problem comes your way.” Her mother reassured her but it confused her all the more. A monster problem doesn’t sound so bad.

“Monsters? Really mom. I’m sure it’s nothing a little wand swinging can handle!” She replied. As if some monsters can beat her. She beat monsters for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

Her mother frowned as she shook her head. “Star, we’re serious about this. Stay away from these monsters. They don’t usually attack that often so it’s safe and they attack with enough regularity that we know when the next one will come by.” Her mother warned her with a serious tone.

Star stuck out her tongue as she started thinking of how these monsters can be a problem. She gasped as she asked, “Is there a monster army here!? Just like the army you beat back when you were just my age?” She started imagining a hoard of such devious and deadly monsters running around causing trouble. Will they have a septarian general as well? She was excited to face them but at the same time, her mother’s worry was sending alarm bells ringing.

“No Star. They’re not like our version of monsters. They’re more akin to natural disasters than anything really. It’s not something you should worry about unless you plan on facing one which I will forbid you from ever doing!” Her mother replied.

Star nodded along but in truth, she was also planning on sneaking out and facing one of these monsters. It sounds like a lot of fun! Her mother however must have cast some form of mind reading spell as she frowned before saying, “I know that look you have Star. I’m warning you, do not engage these monsters. They cannot be reasoned with, they’re hard to kill, and they will harm you.”

“Fine. I promise I won't fight them.” She replied as she looked away. She wondered why her mother was such a killjoy when it comes to the things she liked. Oh it’s too dangerous and you can get hurt. She liked a little bit of danger in her life.

“Good. Oh! Here’s your uncle's house.” Her mother said as she pointed at one of the bigger houses in the neighborhood. There, standing in front of the house was a tall, lean, and bespectacled man with the exact same color as her mothers hair but he sported star shaped cheek marks. Unlike her mother however, he looked way happier. He still held that elegant cultured look with the way he held himself and how well groomed and trimmed his blue hair was yet he did not hold the severe look that her mother sported. He looked like an odd reflection of her mother. He was jovial whereas her mother was morose. He smiled when her mother frowned. He dressed with his simple slacks and buttoned shirt while her mother preferred to dress elaborately with her gowns and other outfits. It wasn’t her uncle that caught her attention however. Beside the man was a girl that really caught her eyes.

“Mom! Mom! It’s you!” Star excitedly shouted as she pointed at the bored looking girl standing beside who she assumed was her uncle. It was as if somebody took a copy of her mothers old paintings and had it come to life or like a blue haired version of herself and the resemblance was uncanny. She looked exactly like her mother right down to her cheek marks. She looked straight laced with how straight she stood; though her choice of clothing, that of a simple T-shirt and short jean shorts, contrasted with the aura she exuded. Her smart looking glasses gave her this feeling like Star could ask her anything and she could answer, just like mom! What's funny was she sported the same bored look that her mother wore. She was the spitting image of her mother and it kinda made her feel jealous but also amazed as her cousin inherited her uncle's hair color. She wanted the Mewni Blue hair!

“Wait, what do you mean me? Oh...” Her mother questioned before trailing off as she noticed her cousin’s looks. She was just as surprised as Star was, but can she blame her? She looked so much like her mom except much younger, taller, and sporting a more prominent frown.

“Hah! She looks exactly like you when you were young, Moon!” Her father laughed out as their carriage crawled to a stop in front of the house.

As soon as the carriage stopped, Star burst out of the coach with the force of a thousand warnicorns and bounded for her cousin. She grabbed on to her and pressed her face close against her. “Oh my god! You look exactly like mom when she was young! You even have her eyes! Are we twins separated from birth?!” She screamed out in excitement as her cousin gave her a mystified and bewildered look.

“Personal space! Do you not know what it is?” Her cousin growled angrily as she squealed out in happiness. Her cousin might just be the most perfect cousin there ever was. She even feels strong and could definitely wrestle Warnicorns with her as her cousin was almost able to pry her off.

“You should totally become one of my ladies in waiting!” She offered to her cousin. Star had yet to have any lady in waiting as her friends were the same rank as she was and most of the other girls in the castle were boring but her cousin?! Oh her cousin would fit in perfectly.

Before her cousin could accept, She was unfortunately pulled off by her uncle. ”Well, you’re certainly a feisty one. Kinda reminds me of myself when I was young. So, this here’s your kid, Moon?” He asked her mother as he gently set her down without scolding her that much. She was starting to like him more already.

“Yes.” Her mother replied with a flat look in her face as she reached out for her collar to drag her away from her cousin. The confused glare that she was giving Star was definitely a good sign in the princess’s eyes. That only meant she was already halfway befriended.

“You sure we didn’t swap kids? You and Annette did give birth in the same hospital.” Her uncle said in a joking manner while he sported a melancholic smile.

“I definitely remembered Star coming out of me.” Her mom answered with a soft smile as she gave her a pat on the head.

She and her cousin blanched at what her mother just said. “Mom! Too many details!” She cried out. That was something she wanted to not think too much about.

“TMI!” Her cousin shouted. She did not know what that meant but it definitely echoed her sentiments. Her uncle and father could only chuckle at her and her cousins' shared pain.

“I think she’s going to love it here.” Her uncle claimed and to that she nodded eagerly. “Anyways, Taylor, why don’t you and your cousin go out to the boardwalk and look around. You had been complaining about your running shoes being worn out.” He then said as he reached out for his pockets before her mother stopped him much to his confusion.

Her father then snapped his fingers and their butler came running to them with a box in hand. “There’s no need for that, let us handle this. Manfred, please give them the card.” Her mother then said and her family's manservant walked up to her and her cousin before opening the box in his hands. There atop a purple cushion was a rectangular card with the word Coutt’s in cursive emblazoned upon its shiny surface.

“Moon, there’s no need-” Her uncle tried to reason before her mom replied.

“Come on Danny, let me threaten you for once. Remember all the times you covered for me at quest buy?” Her mother then said. Star blinked as she stared at her mother. She was normally so straight laced that seeing her smile for once was quite surprising.

Her uncle took in a breath before holding his hands in surrender. “Ok, ok, just this once but next time you come by, I’ll be the one treating you.” He replied.

“You can try.” Her mother replied before the two laughed out loud. “Oh before I forget, I brought with us some of your favorite vintage.”

“Now that’s just cheating, Moon.” Her uncle replied. Star took a quick glance at her cousin who was sporting an equally perplexed look.

“Star, Taylor, best for you two to eat lunch…” Her uncle trailed off before glancing to the racks of wine being carted to the house. “And dinner as well. Me, Moon, and Rivers have some catching up to do.” he added.

“Taylor, you hold that card. It’s the first time Star visited this dimension. I hope she won’t give you too much trouble.” Her mother replied as Star shrugged. She brought herself some pocket money so worse comes to worst, she could buy herself something. “Also, you have my express permission to take Star’s Wand if she misbehaves.” her mother added, making Star cry out in outrage.

“Mom!” She protested. She couldn’t believe how her own mother wouldn’t trust her with the royal magic wand.

“The burning rainbows.” Her mother then said, making her cringe back. Laughing, she nodded along as that arrangement sounded better than having her mother take back the wand from her temporarily. Oh yes this was hers but her mother had yet to step down or be made to step down the throne.

“Aye aye… your majesty?” Taylor replied unsure about the request.

“Now now sweetie, you can call me Auntie Moon or Moon. We’re family after all.” Her mother replied while Star pouted and crossed her arm. This was so unfair.

“You sure Taylor can handle it? I mean, she has her bouts of magical flare up but it is the wand.” Her uncle brought up her concern.

“Well, if she’s like anything like me then she can handle it.” Her mother replied.

“If you say so. You two can get the bikes in the shed. You know how to use the repair spell right, Star?” Her uncle then gestured towards the back of the house.

“Uhuh.” She replied glumly. She was still a bit peeved about what her mom said.

“Just use it when the chains break. My bike hasn’t been used in a while.” He replied as he scratched the back of his head.

“Ok off you two go and Star, please don’t cause too much trouble.” Her mother then said. That was one way to dampen Star's mood. With that, her parents and uncle went inside the house to continue their chat leaving the two of them.

“I take it that you got grounded.” Taylor asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Almost got sent to St. Olga’s.” She admitted.

“Oof. Harsh. Well, just follow my lead and you’ll be fine. It’s Brockton Bay after all, the safest city in America.” She replied as she waved for Star to follow. Maybe she was letting her mothers words color her view of Taylor. She sounded cool enough. Hopefully, a trip out to this Boardwalk would cheer her up.

Star stared at the metallic contraption in front of her. It’s as if someone showed a blacksmith a cart from the side and they ended up only making a flat copy of it. She wasn’t even sure someone could ride it until her cousin just sat on the seat of one before circling around her. Taylor looked at her expectantly but Star was a fish out her elements here. “Umm Taylor… I don’t know how to ride this.” Star said as she poked at the bike leaning against the shed. How does someone travel with these? She expected some horse or other magical contraption but this was something else.

“Do you not know how to ride a bike?” Taylor asked to which she just stared at her. Her cousin palmed her face as she then added “Wait, don’t answer that. Let me just find my old training wheels for you.” Her cousin then dismounted and went back to the shed to find them.

Star hummed as she scratched the top of her hand with her wand before she suddenly got an idea. She slowly brought down her wand before offering an alternative solution. “Hmmm… you know, I could just magic our little problem away but I don’t know, granting life to the bike? ”

Taylor stopped in her rummaging and turned around before giving her a flat look. “No.”

“But it’ll be easier than having to wait!” Star whined. It’s been forever since Taylor went to look for these training wheel’s and she’s already bored.

“Can we just agree that giving something life is just a bad idea?” Taylor sighed out in exasperation. Star pouted but reluctantly nodded at that. She wasn’t that good at giving something life, that she has to admit, but she’s better in other stuff.

“Ok fine… but what if I just turn this bike into a Warnicorn?” Star then suggested. At least this idea didn’t involve her giving life to an inanimate object! It's just a simple transformation and she can totally handle that better than animation.

“Star, I don’t know if I should be impressed or horrified that you can suggest something worse than the one you made earlier.” Taylor replied with a dumbfounded look on her face. “Do you know what a Warnicorn even is?” She asked slowly as she looked her straight in the eye.

“Well duh, I tame them all the time.” Star answered with a scoff. Everyone knows about Warnicorns. After all, they were the symbol of Mewni’s might. They were the most majestic of creatures and the only steed she’ll trust to ride in battle. She let out a dreamy sigh as she remembered all the wild ones she tamed just last week. Everyone

“Bwah?! No, that’s not the point I’m trying to make Star!” Taylor replied as turned back to find that wheel. “A Warnicorn is a half a ton of magically reinforced flesh and bones that has a Brute rating of… I don’t know, 4? A Warnicorn, even a tamed one, would be way overkill for Earth Bet’s roads.” Her cousin explained but Star wasn’t quite convinced. She kept staring at the bike and wondered just how fast she could cast her spell. Before she could attempt it however, Taylor asked her something that pretty much stopped her dead in her tracks “Star… how many times has your Warnicorns kicked a cart?”

“Oh I don’t know… maybe a dozen times since last week? Cost me a bit of my weekly allowance…oh.” Star frowned a bit as she remembered all those broken carts then she remembered just what the horseless carts of this universe are made off. It wasn’t sounding pretty the more she thinks about it.

“And how much more expensive do you think a horseless carriage made of steel and glass would be then?” Taylor then asked as she dug in deep into one particular pile.

“Ohhhh oh… yeah. Let’s not do that” Star replied, agreeing with her cousin while she cringed at the idea of having to ask her mom to repair it when she’s already this close to getting sent to Saint Olga’s. She wasn’t confident enough with her repair skills especially with something she’s not yet familiar with .

“Good cause I found them.” Taylor replied as she pulled out a pair of tiny wheels.

Waving her wand, she readied a spell as she shouted “Let me magic those on for you cuz!”. She was bored enough as is and she was going to be helping!

“Can we not suggest magicking away the problem for one second?” Taylor begged as she motioned for Star to stop. The spell fizzled out into sparkles as Star aborted the spell halfway through. She slumped in disappointment at that. She’d been stopped two times already. Oh she had just gotten the wand yesterday but she needed to cast magic. It’s in her blood!

“But-” She whined, trying to reason with her beloved cousin and try to see things her way but she was shut down before she could make her impassioned plea.

“No buts.” Taylor made it clear that she wasn’t going to tolerate any hijinks as walked up to Star’s bike and started attaching the wheels. Star sighed as she zapped the ground and made a chair made of plants pop up from the ground to sit down on. She stayed put for now, letting Taylor work on it while there she was stewing in her boredom.

Thankfully, it didn’t take long before Taylor was finished. The bluenette wiped away a stray sweat from her brow as the bike stayed upright thanks to the two wheels. Why they didn’t have these in the first place was a total mystery to her. It would be so much easier now that she didn’t have to worry about tipping over. “All done. Hop on and just follow my instructions ok.”

Star nodded as hopped on and found it a bit more comfortable than a saddle. “Push on the pedal when you want to go forward. Squeeze this lever if you want to stop and push this if you want to warn people they’re too near.” Her cousin then explained, pointing at each part of the bike before pushing the bell attached to the handle. The ringing it made was amusing and the fact that she could repeatedly squeeze it was extremely entertaining. Even her straight laced cousin lightened up for once as she simply shook her head. “Ok, ok, I’ve had enough.” She giggled as she reluctantly stopped ringing the bell despite how entertaining it was.

With her protective armor in place and her feet firmly on the pedal of her bike, Star pointed ahead as she commanded her cousin “Lead on my trusty general! Adventure at the boardwalk awaits!”

Taylor only rolled her eyes while a soft smile graced her face before she started pedaling away. Star followed along without much problem. Once she got rolling, she found that riding a bike came naturally to her. The fact that the seat didn’t chaff against her thighs was a huge plus though she wouldn’t trade this for a ride on a Warnicorn. They just held a special place in her heart.

While they rode along the streets of Brockton, Star couldn’t help but wonder why Taylor would rather do things manually than get magical help. She wanted to know why so she asked her, “Didn’t uncle teach you magic? You are royalty after all. It is your birthright and what not.”

“Yeah, what about it?” Taylor asked as she motioned for them to stop as the lights on one of those street lights turned red.

“Why aren’t you using it more often? It’s amazing and it makes things easier. Why go through all the trouble when you can wave the problem away?” Star asked, genuinely curious as to why her cousin didn’t use it more often. She had the cheek marks showing that she did possess magic but she has yet to see her use it once.

“Well, I could but I don’t.” Taylor replied enigmatically making Star pout.

“But why?” She asked once more.

“Because I don’t want to rely on it too much. I don’t want it to be a crutch when I could just as easily do things with my own two hands.” Taylor replied as the lights turned green once more.

Star wasn’t quite satisfied with the answer but she chose not to comment on it any further. “So you do use magic but you don’t do it most of the time… When do you use it? I want to see you fire something sparkly!” Star just nodded along before asking away. She was now curious about her cousin's magical ability.

“Maybe when a villain drops by at the docks.” Taylor replied with a smile.

“I’ll hold on to you one that one, cuz.” Star then said. She wondered what kind of villains lived around this part of the multiverse.

The Boardwalk was everything that Star wanted right now. It had everything that a princess needed. Shops a plenty, food stands everywhere, and even a carnival with rides. Those rides might not be magical but they as well be with the cries of excitement from the people riding them. Not only do they have an endless selection of stalls to choose from, there were also so many street performers around. One in particular had a parade of life size knitted dolls walking after her.

“Taylor, this is amazing!” Star shouted as she practically vibrated in place. There were far too many choices and everything was just so amazing and interesting that she couldn’t choose which one to go to first. They could take a ride but there was also a wide selection of stores selling clothes and she couldn’t forget about the food stalls. All those posters showing this extra large meat sandwich called the ‘Challenger’ were making her very hungry right now.

“Settle down Star. You know we can just come back here next weekend. Also, aren’t there things like the Boardwalk around the multiverse?” Taylor asked as she led them around. There were some people pointing their magic mirrors at them but Taylor merely waved her hands and there were sparks and curses as people got stung by sparks of electricity. Star whistled at that. She almost didn't catch that with how casual the gesture was.

“Well yeah but this is the first time I’ve been on this one!” Star answered. It got boring for her if she kept going to the same place every time. It was one of the reasons why she loved exploring so much. All the new things she could experience was a thrill all on its own.

“You know, mind if you let me pick where we should go? Feeling kinda hungry right now” Taylor asked. The growling of Star’s stomach reminded her that she hadn’t eaten anything else aside from breakfast with how she spent almost the entire morning barricading herself in her room.

Her reply however was quickly cut short as people started screaming and running away from something; Star was already on alert as she pulled out her Wand while Taylor cursed out as both of them would soon find the source of the commotion. A giant yellow spherical head was chomping away and swallowing people whole while people desperately tried going away.

“Go for the fat ones Uber! There!” A man wearing a color costume shouted from atop the head while his companion steered their monstrosity. Both of them laughed away as they caused chaos and mayhem.

“Of all the times... Hey Star, ready to kick some ass?” Taylor asked as she cracked her knuckles.

Star grinned as she raised her wands, which started glowing brightly. “Thought you’d never ask.”

Taylor’s cheeks glowed brightly as she stomped towards the two villains. “Hey Dumbasses! Still haven’t learned from last time!?” She shouted, stopping the two in their tracks as they slowly turned towards Taylor and Star.

“Well wouldn’t you look at that folks, it seems like today’s Ghost is here and wouldn’t you know it, it’s an Inky and Clyde!” Shouted the thin one as he looked over at his shoulder.

“Lol. I don’t know Leet, I think these two are more of a Mario and Luigi pair.” The muscular one then said as he leered at them. She felt kinda dirty from the look. She reminded herself to hit that one with a Narwhal blast a bit lower than usual.

“You know, I say they’re more of a Peach and Daisy. Hey Taylor! Why didn’t you tell us you had a cousin? Would have saved us a lot of trouble when you don't have to choose between me and Uber!” Leet shouted, making Taylor’s brow twitch as she gritted her teeth.

“Oh dream on Leet, she’s obviously into me-! No fair!” Shouted Leet as he ducked just in time to dodge a blast from Taylor.

“Oh it’s on!” Uber shouted as their ride started chomping away towards her.

Star smiled as she waved her wand and aimed her spell. “Narwhal Blast!”
