Ok, another interesting design that never got off the ground and that I remember from decades ago from the first issue of Popular Science I ever bought as a kid because it was on the cover.(and yes, I know one is technically from Minecraft.)

Have you noticed the frontage in this war? With the territory to cover there will be plenty of gaps for missiles and drones to exploit. Hell, Americans are failing to protect much smaller point targets in Iraq and Jordan from drones and missiles and they are supposed to be at top of the game.
The drone in Jordan was because of IFF misidentified.
Simple as.

Variable wing designs are cool but are so maintenance intensive the cost often isn't worth it

Yup, that is why I post them.

No one said that we have to post "good" aircraft, just good looking ones.
This is basically an aircraft porn thread.

From the perspective of a Briton, I think both in concept and construction the Eagle and Falcon are both wonderful aircraft (very pretty looking too). As far as fighter jets go they aren't eye wateringly expensive, they are simple to make, and do their jobs very well. They aren't the best in the world but they don't need to be. I think shunting a hundred F-15s to Ukraine would swing the war rather decisively.

I rather wish my own country would look to build an equivalent of them, as heaven knows the RAF needs some "backbone kit" as I like to call it.

Well, time to try and speak britbong!

Oy moit, can ye possibly can it with th Ukrain malarkey, I ain't looking forward ti anuver offshoot of dat bloody darned flamewar blowin up ere.

So TL;DR

Yeah, no.

I feel more sorry for the person who finds a semi-paragraph too long to read.

I realize you are autistic and think yourself some type of expert, and that you need to put in the last word. :ROFLMAO:

It appears you are allowed to discuss aircraft as well. Not just mindlessly post pictures. Though it seems with some very basic topics, even a few lines of discussion is a bit too vigorous for you. Sad.

Something very timely... America's original balloon buster.

Frank Luke Jr does sound kind of like a Jedi name.

He downed more balloons than likely all of the F-22, F-14/15/16/18's combined... don't double check on that because I just made that up. Clearly the Spad XIII was a superior air dominance aircraft, especially when balloon defense is concerned. If only Ukraine had a hundred of those, they'd have a very decisive impact on the War since Russian IADS wouldn't be able to handle such expertly handled stealth aircraft.

:ROFLMAO: Sure, there is just a minor issue of training their pilots and support personnel from scratch. And there is also this minor issue of Ukrainian AAD already denying the Russians control of the airspace so F-15s doing their part would do jack shit in this regard, except shoot down a few more Gerans/Shaheeds. There are certain other things Ukraine needs, but that's being discussed in other threads, no need to pollute this one.

He didn't really pollute this thread. It was one line at the end of a paragraph level post that triggered multiple responses dedicated to that single line in ignorance of everything else he stated which, if we're concerned about "thread pollution" seems more presciently concerning. :sneaky:

You and me both, lol.

It is a shame we never saw that variable wing U.S. supersonic airliner I posted become realiity. :)
I know, but supersonic air travel just isn't affordable sadly..that's why concord died

Actually it died do to regulation. They made it illegal to go supersonic over land, and then it died.
It died on the market for anyone not rich basically but yeah.
Makes sense why they can't go supersonic over land

The last death knell was that Concord that crashed, because it hit a part thst had fallen off of another aircraft.

Anyway, NASA is experimenting with a low boom supersonic aircraft:

There is also the XB-1 and the company behind it is trying to build a "charter" type small supersonic passenger jet Boom Overture - Wikipedia and it looks like there is a lot of interest from airlines.

USA to Europe would cost 5 grand, but they are probably targeting the rich and those on corporate expense accounts.

Materials sciences and electronics have advanced since the Concorde was a thing.

Maybe they will be able to lower prices even more, and besides, in adjusted dollars a ticket on the Concorde cost something like 20k.

And see what country started with that legislation and put pressure on other countries to also do it.
Yeah, but they killed their own supersonic airliner projects for the same reasons.

Also, murikhans tend to complain a lot and live less densely, which means there is bound to be a bunch of houses close to the airport.
Also, they are the people there invented the term "ambulance chaser". ;)

And the Concorde was an old design, I think that with modern tech it could have been done more efficiently, like getting rid of thdt tilting nose that IIRC had s pretty hescy tilting mechanism and added complexity.

Hopefully we will see supersonic commercial flight being a thinkg in our lifetimes, and hopefully it will not be just for our bureaucratic overlords and some of us lovely desk serfs would be able to fly across Eurasia in less than 10 hours. :ROFLMAO:

The planned B model is less noisy and has a longer range. Alas, because of the Oil crisis of 73 never left the designboard, not even achieved prototype stage.
Today tech?
Supercruise, fully digital control, way less noise, more range, and more passengers.
No need for that tilting nose - do that with cameras like in the Falcon 10x.

Let's see, I should have a bunch of those...

Dassault MD-450
Ugly.
Dassault Mystere IV

Ugly.

I frigging hate planes with broad nose intakes, they look like pig snouts.
In that regard, the MiG-19 is one of the ugliest:

Dassault Mirage IVB

That needle antenna makes an 7/10 go down to 5.
Dassault Mirage 2000

Meh angle.
Dassault Rafale-A

Doesn't do the Mirage justice, also meh paint job.
