What IF: Emperor Palpatine Used his Powers for good?

Emperor Palps has removed the Jedi through Darth Vader. He's seized control of the Senate. Now he's the Chad-Ruler of the Empire and he's actually working to make things WORK.

Instead of fear and terror (just go with it. He's in control of the Dark Side, not the other way around) he's working to ensure stability of the Core and it's outlying regions by going all England/US Hegemon style. Lots of fleet to guard trade, and even more colonization style rulership if a planet/system shows itself incapable of following along.

How does he do it?

Who opposes him?

How does Darth Vader fit into Palp's new plans?

Does the Rebel Alliance even happen?

Hmmm not many polities are left to resist him. The Jedi were pretty well wiped out and not much of a basis of resistance.

I think most of the pro-Republic types would be only offering political opposition as opposed to clandestinely creating military support.

Hutts aren't particularly adversarial in cases like this. EU Hapans are isolationist. Chiss would be down with it.

Biggest threat would be splinter succession groups of surviving Separatists smarting from betrayal I feel and other Sith if they pop up like Darth Maul or whatever.

Things go a lot worse for the Rebellion, first off you're gonna have a lot of Rebel characters not exist if Palpatine never went evil.

  • Ezra
  • Sabine
  • Zeb
  • Cal (Only went out of hiding because of Inquisitor's being kill happy)
  • Erso (Only joined because her Papa got killed and Cassian bailed her)
  • Cassian (Literally only joined cause of Imperial brutality)

Altho Ashoka/Kanan and Saw Gerrera will still exist, the "Hearts" of the Rebellion wouldn't you would have the most violent extremists which means less numerous and skilled rebels. Overall the Empire wouldn't collapse and the Death Star can just have the super laser removed in exchange for much stronger shield generator and become a massive carrier

Darth Wong, dis U. :ROFLMAO:

Humor aside, it a lot of people tried to make the case that the empire was not that bad compared to the corrupt and stagnant shithole that was the republic, with some even claiming that Palps wanted to unify and militarize the galaxy to stop the Vong.

He sorta abolished some forms of slavery and brought law and order to places like Tattooeen.

Then some writers starting from the NJO series and onward made a special effort to make Palps even more evil to the point of comedic incompetence and have characters day point blank that the Empire would not have fired better against the Vong IIRC.

Hmmm I'm curious if the Jedi are still being hunted down then or not. I was under the assumption they would be.

Yes. The Jedi would still be hunted in a similar fashion. The Jedi would be blamed for the failures of the Republic, and the Senators would be blamed as their greedy minions.

Inquisitors would still be used, though another name might be picked. Maybe something like Imperial "Justicars/Judicar". Maybe even enhance their powers to be High Enforcers of Imperial Law.

I wonder if he would just manipulate what is already there, and play, "The Separatists had legitimate concerns, but were manipulated into taking arms against us by the perfidious Jedi who also stoked war on our side", and then use that to integrate the former CIS worlds. Foist it all on the Jedi, hell he could even foist Grievous on the Jedi (well in the old EU). Blame them for the Republic intervening in the Huk War, GG getting bombed, and even reveal the chip (which is also blamed on them). I am sure he could, and perhaps Not Chaotic Evil Sidious, probably would.

"My beloved people, I have learned chilling news about one of the greatest monsters in Galactic History. News that implicates him not as the greatest villain of the Clone Wars, but one of the greatest victims. News that paint the tragic fall of a man who was a hero to his people, a loving father, and devoted husband to being nothing more than a hate-filled husk who only sought to take his unrelenting anger out on others. Let me tell you the tragedy of one, Qymaen jai Sheelal..."

I am pretty sure pinning Grievous and his crimes on the Jedi would be a masterstroke. Not only does that implicate the Jedi in some of the worst atrocities of the Clone Wars, it also implicates them in atrocities grave enough to create a man capable of them in the first place.

I like it. That's definitely devious enough to fit the bill!
