During one of spicy wars between Dutch and England,Nathaniel hold small island Run for 4 years, from 1616 to 1620.He died fighting, and fleet send to help him was defeated in 1619 thanks to mistakes of its commander, sir Thomas Dale -
BUT,british still had rights to islands.During another war,in 1664 they captured Manhattan island from dutch - and,in 1667,oficially exchanged it for Run.

But,imagine that british do not hold. They could not exchange it for Manchattan there,New Amsterdam would not become New York at least till 1756,and that would change History - smaller colonies could not defeat british. We would habe british North America without USA.

Or,even better - let assume, that sir Thomas Dole was better commander and win in 1619/easily done - he had numerical advantage, and win one battle, but not destroyed enemy/
We would have all islands there in british hands, and Jakarta, too.
England would be rich country - how would that change british cyvil war? royalist with more money could win.

P.S there is very good book about that,"Nathaniels Nutmeg" by Giles Milton. Many interesting info - for example,Manhattan was colonized by dudes who seek shorter searoad to Banda islands. And belived that it must be in northern parts of America.
