Alternate History What if the DOD admitted it has Mechs

What if the US Department of Defense admitted they have secret mech units. That they have had said units for 60 years. And that the technology in them is of alien origin. They also admit that many of the designs you see in Macross are based on actual Secret US mech technology (It was soft disclosure). They also admit that said mechs have been used in every war since Vietnam and these same mechs actually ended World War III by shooting down the Soviet Nuke Launches in Boost phase in the late 80s. Forcing the Soviets to back down and end the Cold War. How would the rest of the world react to this revelation?. How would the American public react?. How would rank and file US Military personnel react to the news?

Special Note: They reveal that the US has 20 Squadrons of Fighter mechs. 12 in the US Navy and 8 in the US Air Force.

So just to be clear, we're strictly talking Macross-style mechs then....no land-based walker-type mechs like the ones in Battletech? Such a missed opportunity, Freebirth. 😜

Yes just Macross style. Battletech is well clunky and primitive by comparison.

Well then, in short? You could see a major upheaval across the world, with consequences I'm not sure we could fathom, for the following reasons:

The mention that these were created with ALIEN technology....so if that comes out, that indeed little green men exist, or did exist, that's just going to turn everything in the world on it's head. Aliens have often been regarded as the stuff of talk shows and conspiracy theorists. Now that the US admitted such tech exists because of aliens, what does that mean? What's really out there? How long has the US been hiding this? WHAT ELSE IS THE US HIDING?? Religions worldwide would have a panic attack to put it mildly while people the world over would either have their outlook of the world either go into complete denial or do a full 180 tilt.

The US Military has for all intents and purposes, Macross-style mechs. We're talking aircraft that can turn into big humanoid mechs, right? So how does that change the face of warfare? Who knows....one things for certain...either the various militaries, friend or foe will want to idle up and demand/spy/bribe whatever to learn as much as possible about these mechs, and probably get into a new arms race to start building their own assume they can discern or buy whatever secrets the US Military used in the building of said mechs.

But Mechs that can act as both strike aircraft and transform into for all intents and purposes, bipedal tanks? Such a thing is probably the wet dream of the US Marine Corps who would jealously guard their very existence. That gives a whole new strike capability that would merit it's own further exploration like the dawn of tanks on the modern battlefield. Seriously, if mechs of this nature came into play using alien-derived tech as you mentioned, it's difficult to say how far the consequences would be or where it would go.

EDIT: BTW, how DARE you insult the legacy of Battlemechs, Freebirth Scum!

What consequences? Macroswe is far and away heyond anything we have. Plus they already checjed the nuclear deterrent. The remaninder of nation's can piss and moan but they're done. America if this was true is literally
untouchable. The world can fall in line or be buried hy vastly supiroeri tech it's that simple.

Macross style mecha and the associated tech? Oh boy, given that just jerry-rigged 'we don't know what we're fucking doing' bits of Protoculture tech made our current stealth impossible (the reason that the Veritechs are F-14 clones at first is partially due to the first prototypes were made from F-14 frames as they were the only fighter airframe capable of handling the sensors and all the bits for it) and Protoculture stealth tech is literally invisible to our radar sets...

... fun times ahead, most likely a situation where China would decide to flip the table before the CCP suffers Opium Wars Three: America Edition (and we get the fun of nuclear-armed warlords either way).
