Where to read/watch on historical formation fighting

Theres lots of documentation on how formations maneuvered in various battles thats easy to find with a casual search, but what are some good resources for learning about how the men actually fought in those formations? The structures of the formations and how they effected contact with the enemy formation, drilled fighting techniques and how they interacted, etc. The Greek Phalanx, Roman staggered formation, and various later pike formations and how fighting occurred with them are fairly common knowledge (I'm not sure why these get more attention) but I rarely see discussions about how other kinds of formation actually played out on the scale of personal combat.
