Would you save your Dog or a Stranger?

I have so many people surprising me with their answers to this question so I thought I'd post it here. Okay. Who would you save? Your Dog or a Stranger? And why?

I would assume that the challenge isn't what you'd say here, but actually putting it into practice, but I see at least @almostinsane is perfectly honest. I don't have a dog, so I can't really answer.

Yeah. In fairness to him. What is it for you? I mean, it's okay if you don't have a dog, but only hypothetical. If you have and you have to save one.

I would -- and I would say I think almost everyone would -- rescue a generic human before rescuing a generic dog. But when it's my dog, I would say that my duty to a family member comes before duty to a generic non-family member.

Same here. I just believe that human being is more important than an animal. If I will really have to choose one.

Okay. You will rescue your dog (an animal) over a stranger (a human being) because the dog is a family member.

Okay. However in the situation, you really have to choose one. No calling emergency services. I see your point though that you've attached to your dog thus, your dog over a human being.

A few years ago, my dog tried to make a jump and couldn’t quite make it. He banged up his leg pretty bad (no vet needed, just a bruise) but when he hobbled over to me and rolled into my lap and just needed to cry a little I saw all the faith and love that little bundle of joy had for me, to see implicit trust and that he knew I would always be there for him and I knew... that he would continue to chew up my socks, but also I knew that I would never hold something as pure and kind as that whimpering pupper and I would always protect him.

I’m not giving that up for a stranger

Oh. Okay, I see. It's because of attachment too that you'll chose one over the other, thus, your dog over a human being.

One side of the debate believes that one has an obligation to one's own family members - even the non-human ones - that one does not have to complete strangers.

The other side... well their perspective, which is an alien one to me, seems to be based on claiming moral superiority due to lack of such natural affection.

Ohh. I see. Okay. You will always protect your dog thus, you chose your dog over a human being. If you will really have to choose.
