You guys forgot a sizable amount of Afghan security forces fled to Tajikistan several week ago, maybe more, because they could see the writing on the wall and decided leaving A-stan was the smartest move they could make.
The Taliban are coming back and winning easily, because most of the troops they are facing are partially trained, probably in the army for the what amounts to a welfare check, and tribal loyalties mean more to them than the gov in Kabul.
A-stan was never going to be a success for the US, after bin Laden fled to Pakistan, and we've deluded ourselves into thinking that there was any realitistic outcome other than the Taliban taking back control once we left, particlualry once they made nice with the CCP and are still fighting ISIS-A-stan in some areas.
The only useful thing for the US in A-stan were the airbases as forward deployed points for conflicts with China, Russia, or Iran and the rare earth's in A-stan's mountains; but the DC establishment would never admit that to the US public.
