Armchair General's DonbAss Derailed Discussion Thread (Topics Include History, Traps, and the Ongoing Slavic Civil War plus much much more)

Per wiki there's actually no Ticonderoga class of the US' in the Nato Maritime Response Group 1 anymore and a (very brief) bit of looking at the maritime tracking site doesn't have any other US ships popping out at me in the area (though there was a USNS Sisler in port in Norway...A ship whose name I immediately am glad exists and am certain the crew have nicknamed 'Sizzler' after the restaurant chain*...But she's a transport ship).

*Or maybe not, since they might have more respect than me.

Looks like the US is throwing the carrier in dependent upon the allies ships for escort-dutying (unless one of the transponders that's giving off the generic 'NATO Warship' descriptor is something American being semi-sneaky).
Not just the US; Prince of Wales is in there too.

Though good bet the generic ship names are US ships trying to be sneaky.

Counterpoint: imagine a teenager in St. Louis saying "See you in Culver" to a friend on a Friday afternoon.

The fastest way to get to Culver, IN from St. Louis, MO by car involves dealing with I-465 and Meridian St. in Indianapolis during a Friday evening. The most fuel efficent route uses I-57, is about 540km and completely avoids a metro area about about half the size of Belgium. Some of the back roads used might not be paved.

Both of those teenagers will be there before midnight.
Now imagine a cruise missile taking the trip between those two points.
Or a landing craft full of special forces units.

A better example would be an actual US state declaring independence, and then becoming an ally of some other world power.
How would some of you feel about Russia or China being allowed to base military forces in California? Or Texas?

But the US isn't basing very many military forces in Ukraine. 1,000 or so troops is a token amount. I'd be OK with a comparable number of Russian or Chinese troops being in Texas, just so long as they will actually agree to leave nicely and quickly if the Texans will ever ask them to do so, similar to how Soviet troops left Cuba in 1991.

I did that example already, like several times.
My original explanation for this mess for Americans was 'Imagine if texas went independent and wanted to join Mexico and China, but Northern Texas said no'

Then we would support a separatist uprising in northern Texas?

BTW, I'm actually sympathetic towards the separatist uprisings in Crimea and the Donbass. I'm less sympathetic to spreading these uprisings to other parts of Ukraine without genuine mass popular support, which didn't exist for this outside of Crimea and the Donbass even back in 2014.

The first place to have an uprising of any kind was Odessa, which is in the south-west.
Go check out Oliver Stone's movie.

Support for federalization there was considerably lower than in the Donbass, though:

Federalization got just 17.5% in Odessa Oblast in contrast to 32.2% in Kharkiv Oblast, 38.4% in Donetsk Oblast, and 41.9% in Luhansk Oblast. I suspect that in the separatist-controlled areas, support for federalization might have been in the 45% range, with around 45% opposition and the remaining 10% unsure.

And I trust the Ukrainian government as far as I can throw the Ghost of Kiev.

Sorry, lost track of whether being a cuck for Russia is now something CNN supports or opposes. I just don't watch it to guide my politics around it. But guess you are closely tracking their position and adjusting accordingly.

I think their current stance is still that Oceania Has Always Been At War With Eurasia.

The trendy thing among American left-libs has long been that China taking over the world would be cool.

Jim Rickards pushing some hard to swallow red pills about Ukraine.

I am sure they will love the ultra-capitalist, ultra-nationalistic mindset of the Chinese as they dig for Uranium in Siberia alongside the Uki SS-larpers. 😂

Here in Australia, fuel prices have gone up about 30%, and we are a net exporter.

I'm not sure where we get our fertilizer, though.

What I am certain of, we won't be giving up our Green Dumb any time soon! There'll be starvation in the streets first.
It is not just you, it is going the be the whole of the Middle East and Africa, there will be more money chasing less goods, some countries will add to the problem by banning food exports and probably fertilizer and energy exports.

Russia will probably be able to sell some of its grains and fertilizer exports to friendly or neutral countries, thus softening the blow for them and making it worse for US proxies in Africa and the Middle East.

Also, a lot of US investors will be left ultimately holding the bag with these sanctions.

If the USA tries to sanction China and India you can bet they will trade more together, with Russia probably ending up as the 3rd party that helps them out.

Border talks between India, China to resolve border dispute end without resolution

Wanna bet that any sanctions, read any loss for the USA and the EU, will ultimately be the Chinese and the Russians' gain?
Whom gods destroy, they first make mad.
The world is IMHO increasingly seeing the depth of the West's madness.

Anyway, here is Rickards on the causes of the war and the impact of it on the whole world:

But there is no reason to ask, because still Cuba exists. The nuclear missile crisis got all the press, but even after the crisis Soviets kept something around 10k troops there.

Would those be the ones with the mythical birds carrying a virus specifically tailored to infect slavs, in a slavic country?

Don’t paint this as some outlandish conspiracy theory.

Even the State Department admits that there are “biological research facilities” in Ukraine that they say they are worried about Russia gaining access to and using it for biological attacks.

Consider how Americans might feel if Russia was funding such “biological research facilities” in Mexico or Canada.
