September 11th 2001: The Beginning of the End.

"BEEP!"
On September 11th 2001, 19 militants from the Islamic terrorist organization known as al-Qaeda hijacked a pair of airlines and rammed them into the twin towers resulting in some 2750 deaths. For the first time in nearly a decade our eyes were glued to the tv screen as news stations both professional and armature recorded the events happening in real time.
Later that day President George W. Bush broadcasted a speech on live television promising a swift retaliation for the attacks. For one single day nearly, the entire country was united in a common cause...
...what nobody realized at the time this was the beginning of the end.
The retaliation strike was indeed swift When Intelligence believed that they had found the leader of al-Qaeda, a man named Ayman Mohammed Rabie al-Zawahiri hiding in a series of cave tunnels in Afghanistan, President Bush, decided it was the proper time to use an experimental prototype, said to be the biggest non-nuclear bomb in America's mighty Arsenal.
Ayman was killed instantly and for a brief time America celebrated, but then something unexpected happened. Russia threatened to respond with "Unrestrained Force" should America not cease production on these protypes immediately. When the President refused, Russia fired an atomic bomb as a warning shot from a base near the city of Kaliningrad. Once NATO got involved everything fell apart and everyone watched their TV screens for the last time in horror.
Society collapsed shortly after WWIII as the world fell apart so too did America marking the end of the modern age. What rose from the ashes of the modern world would be a mismatch of early industrial technology and older. Things were changing in ways no one at the time could have imagined except for one thing. War, war never changes.
