Location: Griffin's Roost. 2 months journey Rimward and Anti-Spinward of McEvedy’s Folly.

The fires had mostly been extinguished, although tendrils of smoke still curled lazily into the tauntingly blue sky of what should have been a truly lovely day in Griffsport, the capital city of the planet Griffin's Roost. The crackle of gunfire as the last remnants of the defeated raid were dealt with, the howl of emergency sirens, and incongruously the typical morning chorus of tropical birds mingled together.

You had awakened in the rooms once occupied by your parents, wishing desperately that the last several days had never happened. That you hadn’t been thrust into a role you had never really trained for.

That you weren’t suddenly Queen. That your parents weren’t dead, that your brothers and sisters weren’t dead, that your little nephew who bounced on your knee and called you Auntie Jack wasn’t dead. That the emergency bunker they’d been in hadn’t taken a direct hit from a crashing dropship and obliterated.

You had done well in school as a child, your parents insisting on sending their children to the same schools as the regular citizens rather than insisting on special treatment. And after you’d graduated you’d -

You’d been proud of your accomplishments! You’d felt qualified, you’d earned your success, not had it given to you on a silver platter. And now… now you had to rule, you had to rebuild a shattered government, bind up the wounds of an angry and injured planet, and lead them into the future.

You grit your teeth and forced yourself to face the day. To face the future. You had no choice, it was all on your shoulders. Everything your parents had done to consolidate their rule over a divided and fractious planet, everything your grandfather had done to crush the last remnants of warlordism and banditry, everything your great-grandfather had done defending civilization from the madness of apocalyptic cults that sought to bring about annihilation for all. It all came down to you. Would you stand? Or would you fall…

At least you’d have advisors to assist, you knew that at least. Most of the administration was more or less intact, even if the capital building and the bunker concealed beneath it that housed the senior leadership of the state was destroyed. So you had your pick of advisors, some perhaps a little too eager to serve, some willing to serve out of a sense of patriotic obligation, some just as grimly determined as the rest of your people to see this out, and win.

You realize that you also should plan on giving a planetary address, to calm the fears of the people and raise their spirits. For all the losses, the unknown enemies who’d attacked out of the blackness of space had failed, they’d been defeated… and your… yours now… subjects deserved to know about what you intended.

Emphasize unity and preparedness. Avoid talking about vengeance so as not to give talking points to political enemies if we never find the specific raiders involved. Instead stress that the government is going to take action to make sure it never happens again and that all of us need to pull together to make sure of it.

Edited: For the list of advisors do we have any information on their personalities or anything like that? Or are we just voting for their names at this point?

The full descriptions are in the available advisors tab of the quest details google sheet. Gives the associated bonuses/maluses as well as a short blurb of their personality.

[X]Recovery and resurgence
--[X] Medical School
--[x] Carrie Hampton (ASF are the first line of defense against the attackers from the void)
--[x] Deborah Ryan (is she also Batman?)
--[x] Rafael Brady (seems safe choice)
--[x] Josh Baldwin (does he have a Scottish accent and swears a lot?)
--[x] Grace Palmer (seems to be a balanced choice)
--[x] Nicolas Ortega (somebody needs to prickle the press)
--[x] Delia Greene (got to bust the corruption)
-[X] You emphasize the loss that you and the world suffer, how the worldview of the people has been upended by this sudden and savage attack. Then reiterate the determination to lead the nation through the crisis and protect the people from the dangers, just like your ancestors did.

And an idea I just had, perhaps Jacqie was designated survivor because she was doing some work some distance from the capital.

-[X] Speech contents will be the usual, how we all share in the sorrow of those lost to this dastardly attack, how we must come together in this time of trial. We are one world, one people, we will survive, rebuild, and find those who did this to us. But for now, let us bind our wounds, rebuild and make us a better world. Deemphasize vengeance, simply because it's not possible right now. Emphasize unity, shared history, and the potential of our world.

Just a reminder to remember the format for plan submissions.

[] Plan Name
-[] Entries

Arlos got it right, if the others could edit their plans to that format it would be great.

Rules
Rules
1) Be civil to each other. Not everybody knows as much about Battletech as everybody else. The fastest way to drive people away from Battletech is to be jerks to them. Don't be that person.
2) None of the canon schematics or designs are available unless you either discover them or copy them. Designs which pass validation in MegaMekLab are acceptable submissions for R&D purposes. QM is the final arbiter on unit statistics, e.g. whether a unit has offense, defense, or both ratings. In addition there will be a secret roll on design acceptance which has the possibility of slight tweaks to statistics.
3) Voting will, in general, be open for 5 days. The intention is for there to be one turn each week. If voting is tied at the end of 5 days the tied proposals will be voted on over the next 24 hours
4) Plans are to be submitted in the following format
[X] Plan Name
-[X] Category
--[X] Action
5) Plans that are not in the required format will not be accepted
6) Votes are to be in the format [X] Plan Name votes not in the format will be disregarded
7) Dice rolls are done using the Dark Heresy/Rogue Trader system. Therefore the higher the target number the better. Certain actions will require a certain number of successes, either in one roll or multiple rolls. Targets, required successes, etc will be specified in action text
8) Combats are handled via opposed rolls pitting attackers Attack Rating against defenders Defense Rating. Tactics in play may effect who is the 'attacker' in a given roll.
9) Aerospace combat is divided into 4 range bands, from short to extreme. The speeds (determined by max acceleration) are compared and the faster unit gets to dictate the range of the engagement. All units can roll defense but only units rated for a given range band can attack into that band
10) Default rating actions can use any categories free actions
11) For simplicities sake, when setting exercises all units of a given military overview entry must be involved. When units reach crack or elite status new entries will be made in the list for those units. It is assumed that the training and recruitment infrastructure permits veteran unit types to retain veterancy status even as they expand. By default crack and elite units cannot be purchased, they can only form as a result of combat actions. There will be specific tech advances allowing the training of crack/elite units available somewhere (not saying where) in the tech tree

I liked the "only the best" plan, but it had no political advisor. So here's my slight variation that does have one

Ah, sorry about that, I modified my vote now to include it.

Uh, guys? I'd like to point out that the advisor slate for "Only the Best" totals an upkeep of +2300, which is high enough to bankrupt the country in about five turns. With the economy currently at a standstill, I'd argue we *really* need to conserve money when it comes to the bureaucracy as opposed to blowing it all on star advisors.

I noticed, but I figured there had to be more to it than that. You can't actually get by with little for advisors, the lowest I was able to come up with was around a thousand a turn, my own "First we get the money" plan is about 1500 because I figured rerolling a failed economic event was worth the extra (the others I picked for who boosts economy the most). But if we don't massively boost economy the cost of all the advisors will bankrupt us no matter what.
