Pretty much this. Escaping to South America would have required a near-identical body double who was also such a good actor that he could mimic Hitler so flawlessly that those close to Hitler wouldn't notice the switcheroo unless they were privy to the plan.

Yes,it is logical.But we live in inlogical world.And soviets claimed that he is dead for sure,and if soviets claimed something for sure,usually that was lie.

Doesn’t matter; Nazi Germany is as dead as a doornail and Hitler would be dead of old age even if he had escaped.

This is basically the answer.

That said...I'd be curious as to the Mossad's investigatory work in South America around it. Because the Israelis were none-too subtle and quite enthusiastic in hunting-down Eichmann and the like, and trying to find Mengele, that it would stand to reason the rumors over Hitler himself escaping would get examined. Dunnow if anything like that has been released or publicized really, though.

Brains age too, and old Adolf's one wasn't in good condition to start with. I read somewhere that the drugs that his private doctor was injecting him with were into the realm of "why would anyone put that stuff into a human body?"

My own take on the topic is that the story piles one improbability on top of another:

1) Hitler secretly escapes to South America. Okay, maaaybe.
2) Hitler secretly escapes to South America, and brings his private art collection along too???
3) Hitler does 1 and 2, and then... spends the rest of his life pretending to be a Roman Catholic priest???

We know there is still tons of artifacts stolen by the Nazis that have yet to turn up.

Some might have been destroyed in bombings though, there is talk that one of bombings of Köln destroyed arts depot with many looted artifacts. Some of the loot Löhr took from Greece was destroyed when trucks carrying it went up in flames during the final fighting near Poljana. Some might be still hidden in a hiding places that no one knows about anymore or are in private collections.
