Armchair General's DonbAss Derailed Discussion Thread (Topics Include History, Traps, and the Ongoing Slavic Civil War plus much much more)

Hard to say, US hasn’t exactly fought a conventional war against someone able to put a fight in a lonnnnng time, doctrinal loss/change can be subtle and involuntary at time.

I know I read a declassified document written by Soviet military planners after desert storm where they freaked out and concluded that they would be utterly incapable of halting a US armor advance barring the use of tactical nuclear weapons.

doctrine wise the biggest difference I see between the US and Russia is that the US will commence with a month long strategic bombing campaign before they launch ground offensives.

Why are we talking about some degenerate moron on a war thread?

Unless he got his head blown off or something?

Cause all that aggression means U R secretly gae.

Embrace the gae. 😂

If you have enough nukes to end all life on the planet several times over, picking a fight with you is never the correct idea.
No, not never, there are certainly many cases when that's EXACTLY the correct idea, as the Israelis proved in 1970 and as the Americans proved in 2018. It's all about context and type of the fight you're picking with them.

There is a difference between a game of chicken like we did back in 2018, and going to war with them. and I don’t recall Israel ever fighting a major nuclear power beyond a minor skirmish with soviet advisors in the Egyptian Air Force We will try to screw them diplomatically and with other means, they do the same, but neither of the big boys will attack each other we are in the great game.

Yep, absolutely. Let's see just how much of a resistance, either active or semi-passive (think Solidarity in Poland in the 1980s), the Ukrainians will subsequently put up under Russian occupation.

Anyway, it's quite interesting. Russia has been on a roll over the last 25 years:

2000s: Defeated the Chechen separatists
2008: Crushed Georgia
2014: Annexed Crimea and saved the Donbass separatists from total destruction
2016: Got Donald Trump elected US President
2022: Invaded Ukraine and will likely overthrow the existing Ukrainian government
Beyond cnn saying so 2016 wasn’t a win for Russia, they got an unpredictable man who crippled their budget for a few years with sanctions.... during a time of falling oil prices.
