"BEEP!"
Summary: Inspiration struck me so I figured I'd make a batman story featuring an alternate take on The Dark Knight that still (Hopefully) holds onto what makes Batman Batman. How far will it go? I don't know, but I hope in any case you enjoy it. Rated M so I can have more free reign in terms of chapters. This story mentioned plot details and events from the 2019 joker film. I'm not sure if this fanfic could be considered a fan sequel to the film as more fantastically aspects of the DC universe such as Superman and Wonder Woman will make appearances later on, and I'm not sure how well that Joker Film would fit into that kind of universe. Consider it a parallel AU. In any case I hope you enjoy it
Disclaimer: I don't own Batman. That belongs to DC comics.
Sofia Falcone looked out the window as the spot lights Gotham City shined across the clouded skies of Gotham City. A lot of people outside of the city often described the metropolitan as a three-way mix between New York, Las Vegas and Chicago. She really couldn't argue with the description. Like Chicago Gotham had been a haven for the mob since the early days of prohibition in fact. Her father often claimed that Gotham became the city it was today because many of the old guard needed a back up just in case the politicians clamped down hard in Chicago, though Sofia had her personal doubts.
Yes Gotham was an empire of the mob, and the ceaser a man by the name of Carmine Falcone, it had been like that since her father, and his father and his father before him. Yet, there was something in the back of Sofia's mind that questioned if The Falcone empire was destined to fall as all empires did. Times seemed to be changing, a new sort of class of criminal was coming.
It all started with the Joker riots 12 years ago. An escaped mental patient named Arthur Fleck inadvertently caused a city-wide riot after killing three employees of Wanye Enterprises. After killing Talk show host Murray Franklin, live on his show Fleck soon took on the name joker. History would later call them the Joker Riots.
Bruce was the one most affected of the two. The Falcone family may have lost a few properties but that could easily be replaced. Bruce on the other hand, he lost something that could not be replaced. One of the rioters shot Bruce's parents in cold blood right in front of him. After that Sofia could tell that something inside him broke. He was more world weary, like all of light and Childlike innocence was just gone.
Still Bruce wasn't alone in mourning for Thomas Wayne. Carmine also wept. back when The Roman was a young man, before he had even married, a rival mobster named "Big Lou" shot him in the face. The shot would have been fatal had it not been for the intervention of a well-renowned surgeon named Thomas Wayne. Thomas Wayne was far from a saint but Carmine couldn't help but think that For all of Thomas Wayne's flaws, for all of his inner demons, at his core was a man that wanted to be good. Besides, Carmine was no saint himself.
the Waynes and the Falcones would become close, practically family even. And their children became just as close to each other. Sofia had his back anytime Bruce would get in trouble. If someone picked on Wayne all she had to do was pick them up by their collars and threaten to beat them. It never had to go beyond that.
After his parents death, Bruce spent the next eight years afterward living with his uncle Jacob Kane and after graduating high school, Bruce enlisted into the Marines. Before he departed however, he gave her his father's ring
"Consider it collateral. When I get back consider it a proposal."
It had been four years since then. and Sofia waited with bated breath as she waited for some sign that Gotham's favorite son would be coming home.
Sofia couldn't help but blush upon thinking about it. There was a reason why Sofia's middle name was "Gigante" she stood nearly a half foot taller than her father weighed over twice as much as him with that only 15% being actual fat. More than anything it was well known she was capable of ripping a car door straight off its hinges if she felt the need. By all accounts even among her male associates she was an absolute behemoth, and yet here this "behemoth" pacing up and down the hall like an anxious child, waiting to get a word of something, anything regarding Bruce Wayne Then it happened.
Ding Dong
Sofia dashed to the door nearly ripping it off. The mailman was shaking in his boots as he meekly handed the letter to her. It was common knowledge you didn't make small talk with a Falcone unless spoken too. She gave him a polite goodbye, tossed him a tip and then slammed the door. She tore open the envelope reading the letter inside. Her smile stretched wider and wider as she went further and further down. Tears started to fill her eyes as she ran down the hallway and practically barged into her father's room.
"Papa! Papa!" Her voice while a tenor, had a lift too it that sounded as giddy as a schoolgirl.
"Sofia, my little girl, Cos'è?"
Carmine walked out of his steaming bathroom in velvet bathrobe. Shaving cream could be seen smeared on his face as his bushy goatee appeared to be half shaven. Had this been one of his common associates he'd have punched him in the face told him not to bother him while he was shaving and then gone back to the bathroom, but with this being his daughter, he'd make time for her even if he was on the toilet.
"Mi scusi papa, but this is important."
She held out the letter to him, her hand shaking with excitement. Raising an eyebrow, Carmine dried his hands on a towel and then took the letter. His face started out as hard as stone, but the further down he read, the softer his face became till finally tears started to form in his eyes, not tears of sadness, but tears of absolute joy.
"Gloria a Dio in cielo! Our boy is coming home."
