It's been talked about back when at the time of their elections, they might slow down the process, but the entrenched bureaucracy and judiciary are on the side of the globalists as is EU, to whom the member states passed on much of their sovereignty.

So, anyway, I noticed we didn't have a dedicated thread on this yet despite it falling under our purview.

Basic explanation, the Netherlands goverment decided that to follow EU regulations cutting down on oceanic nitrogen blooms of toxic algae fed by fertilizer runoff, they'd forcibly shut down farms and cattle ranches. Needless to say, this greatly upset the farmers whose livelihood depended upon those farms and everyone affected by the increased scarcity and corresponding increased prices of food, so now they're protesting. The Netherlands goverment, seeing their politics were unpopular with their citizenry responded reasonably, haha, just kidding, they sent in tanks.

UPDATE:

The Dutch coalition government has just fallen apart. The parties disagreed about reform of the policies regarding asylum seekers. The current system is demonstrably untenable, but the left-wing parties have blocked any meaningful reform.

There will most likely be elections in the Autumn, and since the farm expropriation plans are also non-finalised (the farming sector's representative organisation pulled out of compromise talks recently), this means that such elections will provide a chance for the "common sense opposition" to actually make a left-leaning government impossible for a few years.

That is... if the people don't revert to loyal mainstream-voting cattle again...

Wish it would hurry up, assuming we can’t fix things and make that and all that comes with it unnecessary.

All things in their good time. As far as the Netherlands are concerned, we're nowhere near any radical sea-change. I don't see it happening elsewhere in the West, either-- although there are places where things are already significantly more 'pressing' than in the Netherlands.

Never under-estimate systemic inertia. It always lasts longer than you think. The monster keeps gorging itself, on anything it can get. Only at the very end does it consume itself.

But that day does come.

Leaving the fact he did or intended to damage his own nation for 13 years, I wouldn't bet he keep that promise.

Next year, the functions of President of the European Council, President of the European Commission, and Secretary-General of NATO will all become available. And Rutte is considered a serious contender for all three.

As it just so happens.
