Finnish NATO application was just ratified by the Hungarian parliament at clear 182-6 majority leaving Turkish parliament the only one left.
Well, in any case, Finland is certainly the one we should least want to have hanging in limbo, since it's the one with an actual extensive border with Russia. The fins are the more valuable of the two.

The Turkish leadership is still halting Swedish application due to political reasons related to Kurdish organizations acting in Sweden, etc... and the Turks and Hungarians move in lockstep in these matters (as Hungary wants to help Turkey avoid the pressure of being the sole party still left to ratify and share the pressure), so the moment Turks give in to Sweden, the Hungarians will as well as we saw in Finland's case. Although since Sweden is EU's chairman till July, it's also likely Hungarians are also trying to extort frozen EU subsidies to be unfrozen (which have been frozen due to problematic evolution of rule of law, freedom of press and corruption developments in Hungary until they fix said developments with legislation, etc...).How is the Swedish application going?
If Sweden could be turned, it would become a powerful ally.

Actually, current NATO borders are about 70km from St. Petersburg already. The main thing that makes Finland attractive (besides Sanna Marin) is that they are astride the only road and rail link between St. Pete & Moscow on the one hand and the military bases (air and naval) and the Plesetsk cosmodrome on the other. How is the Swedish application going?

A border 250km from the city centre of Sankt Peterburg ...
Prediction: Turkey will give the Ok in allowing Finland join NATO.Finnish NATO application was just ratified by the Hungarian parliament at clear 182-6 majority leaving Turkish parliament the only one left.

Sweden’s main additions are 1) guaranteeing secure comms between the Baltic states (including Finland) and Poland on the one hand with the rest of NATO on the other (NATO already has a huge comms nexus at Gotland but now it’d be NATO turf officially); 2) Sweden and Gotland in particular are the key to ensuring control of the Baltic, and being able to rapidly reinforce the Baltic republics by going straight across is a huge plus; and 3) means NATO can very easily cut off Kaliningrad from the rest of Russia -and hit the thing with cruise missiles if shit gets real.
I wouldn’t say Finland is “more valuable” than Sweden since each brings different strengths to the table; Russia would probably go completely batshit if we parked a division or two there…and while they’d bitch about us doing the same with Sweden, the latter means that they can’t bitch about us being right on their border.
