Hahah, don’t be silly. Everything goes good with maple syrup. Especially sausages. Sweet and salty is a winning combination.

I did manage to find a list of interesting-looking maple syrup recipes, though:

Sounds really good. I am probably conservative with maple syrup, because I do not want to waste it. Plus I have some of the good stuff, so I am worried about wasting it on experiments as well. But if there is a set recipe...

I apologize for double posting, but did something relevant to my current quest. We made baked potatoes as part of the family dinner, and as my part I provisioned the toppings. Decided to turn them into Tex-Mex nacho/taco style. Were pretty good, and I used copious amounts of hot sauce. Essentially Taco Toppings (sans lettuce) plus some regular baked potato toppings. I drowned mine, and due to my sharp tastes it didn't drown out the potato flavour, but worked nicely with it.

Did you use an actual taco seasoning or mix?

I used chili powder, salt, pepper, garlic, and a bit of hot sauce made in mexico. Was going to get some more spice, but forgot.

I’ve never trusted a taco seasoning recipe without cumin. Just doesn’t smell right.

Here is my taco seasoning recipe:
• 4 tablespoon chili powder
• 2 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1 teaspoon onion powder
• 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
• 2 teaspoon dried oregano
• 2 teaspoon paprika
• 2 tablespoon ground cumin
• 4 teaspoon sea salt
• 4 teaspoon black pepper

Add two tablespoons plus 1/3 cup water per pound of meat.

I just had Kewa datshi at a Himalayan restaurant. It's a Bhutanese dish which can be best described as a cheese soup with mild-hot peppers, a few vegetables I couldn't recognise that taste good, and potatoes in it. I had it with rice and a steamed bun (folded wheat, no filling, steamed) called a tingmo, kind of like a Chinese flower roll. I ate it by dipping spoonfuls of rice and cuts of the dumpling into the soup, and it was altogether quite good.

Has anyone else noted that problem where catering services in the western world tend to try and offer ethnic themed foods, and you get things like vaguely "greek" (i.e. "mediterranean) seasoned chicken breasts served alongside naan bread, basmati rice, and this very watery curry-style stir-fried vegetables? As you may have guessed, I ended up having to eat something to that effect for lunch today. The individual parts in isolation were fine, but it was impossible to make something that wasn't bland out of it.

It does sound pretty bland. If you didn't say It was Mediterranean I would've assumed it was some sort of Indian cuisine.

Basically the same thing I'm sure. :p

They randomly also had salmon fillets, for peak confusion. But the salad had feta cheese and olives in it. This was particularly irritating because I was debating all day whether or not to sneak off to a real restaurant for lunch and finally forced myself not to, because of how good the cheese enchiladas and chicken tacos had been the day before, but I really ought have.

If any of you are in Madison, Wisconsin, go visit Chen's Dumpling House. Do not be deterred by poor reviews from confused white people, these are some of the best and most authentic jiaozi you could get in a middle-sized American City; I had the chicken and mushroom ones, they're handmade and cooked on order and available with chili spice garnish, dipping sauce, and parsley and green onions. They also have an extensive selection of noodle soups, but I didn't try those; a single order of jiaozi was a quite adequate lunch.

Well folks, tonight I made pork schnitzels and a artichoke risotto, you wouldn't think those 2 would go well together, but really they're a real Axis Powers meal, pan-fascistic cuisine if you will. :p

Say anyone else here like Dolmah/Dolmades/etc?

Had to google what that was, never had that exactly, but it's cousin the kohlrouladen (cabbage roll) can either be excellent or trash depending on how it's made or prepared.
Looks like the Euro versions are more meat filled than the dolmades Mediterranean type.

I like cabbage rolls myself, and I can attest to that.
