Food & Drink Food and Drink thread? Food and Drink thread.

I'm going to have to try that now. (though I must also protest that it's miraculous enough as an American that I like and even know what Marmite is, let alone Vegemite.) What kind of cheese?

The kind that is in your fridge is best. šŸ˜

More seriously if you're able to melt it properly than shredded tasty/cheddar is great, but really any rich tasting cheese will do.

@Punch Card Girl Had those potato pancakes a while back and want to make them again, they were good. Had them with freshly cracked salt and pepper and then put the good canned maple syrup on them.

Excellent!

...It was real Maple Syrup, right? The New Hampshire Agricultural Industry will probably shut down this forum otherwise...

Makers of the best syrup. Or at least in my opinion. Anyways, that reminds me, have you ever had maple syrup candies before? As in little candies made with maple syrup?

Oh yes, I adore them. Also liquor made from maple syrup.... Baked beans baked with maple syrup... Bread baked with maple syrup... You can buy nearly anything made with maple syrup around here, even odd ones like maple syrup glazed salmon and maple syrup bacon.

I love them too. Have a few hidden away for when I go out of country for gifts, due to local custom where I am going.

That does sound pretty delicious. Might have to take stock of what we have here for that, since maple has to be shipped across the continent for us. However, we do have our own intriguing local fare anyways and I can at least get those delicious candies here. And by local things, I mean things like birch syrup, which looks pretty neat. Have you tried that? Because, I have been wanting to try it, and from what I hear it is not the pancake variety of syrup.

I've had birch beer before, but never birch syrup. I must rectify this.

I love birch beer. I find it to be quite delicious. I wish you luck in finding it.

Also, have you ever had spruce tips? I have had them in things, and really want to try them as is. I like the taste.

Yes, they were served as part of the garnish on some Arctic Char I had late last year at a very nice restaurant. Quite good.

I'll have to pick them then, or if push comes to shove see if they are being sold locally. Had them in hot sauce and in ice cream, both were very delicious.

@Es Arcanum Quick question, would you put vegemite on a roo sandwich or not?

You know I've never really had a roo sandwich...

Pies, roasts, hamburgers, tacos, steaks and sausages yes but never a sandwich. :D

It's a very low fat meat with a gamey taste that you have to cook right so that it's not too tough or odd tasting. But it's possible.

I am not even sure if I was making a roo meat joke if I was just going "Lol, Australia" or if actually remembered unconsciously that people eat roos, or both.

I live much too far out to get pizza delivery, so we have to cook our own. Has anyone else noticed the efficacy of an AirBake nonstick pan? They actually seem to work fairly well and eliminate most of the problems of cooking a pizza in your own oven. My oven works off propane with a convection fan (Samsung model, integrated with range).

Itā€™s basically a non-stick pizza pan with air holes in it to distribute convective heat to the crust better. It enhances the evenness of cooking of a pizza in a home oven. Especially my pseudo-convection gas oven. I am not sure it will work in my 1898 vintage wood oven, but I also may not need it there. I am really looking forward to getting that back from the gentleman rebuilding it, it was fun enough last year. It really brings the Hestia alive to have one, and it keeps the house warm as well.
