That's pretty much bull. As a parent it's my responsibility to expose my children to things as they become mature enough to handle them. It's also my responsibility to make sure they aren't exposed to things they aren't mentally mature enough to handle.

What you're saying is that's it's OK to show children whatever you want b/c it helps them grow...which means that it's ok for teachers to show 5 and 6 year olds sexually explicit material and then convince them they should be a different gender.

I'm not sure you've thought about what you wrote before you wrote it.
There is a diffrenxe between sexual material and vulgar violent material

Placing words in other people's mouths is rather uncouth.

Come one, come all, for the impossible test that was meant to block all black people from voting! Oh wait, it's middle-school level brain teasers. You have an average of 20 seconds to answer each question, this seems very doable.

Caveat, of course, that some of the questions (as written on this paper of questionable authenticity) are gibberish.

No, this test is BS. Question 21 has two possible answers.

Also, note who got the test: frequently white people were grandfathered in and didn't have to take it. Meanwhile black people who took it, well, do we know that the proctor wouldn't fuck around with the test?

21 is easy. Spell it like "^o+ə"

It's numbers 1, 12, and 13 that are confusing.

Eh, I could read it going the other way instead, as
that could also 'be in the right order', given it's supposed to be upside down, it might be supposed to be viewed that way.

I'd also say that 11 is confusing, as the singular use of number might imply that you can only cross out one of the 0's, despite needing to cross out multiple.

Also, I think 28 might be 18, not 12? It didn't quite say 'fill in the blank with what fits the pattern', it says "put what comes next in the blank." I bet someone marked it wrong for that reason.

The big question is how many can you get wrong, and how much does the grader hate you? The answer to the second is 'a lot'.

Apologies if that felt harsh.
Kids are exposed to all kinds of things they "aren't ready for" every single day of their life.
However, your words are the exact crap that some are using to excuse/allow what some 'educators' are putting forth.

I'm fairly certain that was NOT your intent, but I highlighted if for a reason. To point out how that is taken by others. Whether it be parents like myself or 'educators' that know better how to raise my kids.

A test that measures basic English reading comprehension ability, and ability to follow instructions, is not in itself a bad idea.
See, it's not 'in itself' a bad idea. Neither is a poll tax. There are a ton of things that aren't in themselves bad ideas that we do not want the government to do. The issue is that you are handing the government a weapon that they will gladly use against you.

I watched Nightmare on Elmstreet when I was 4 years old and Scream when I was 6. I watched Friday the 13th sometime in between those two things.

I didn't end up being a mass murdering psychopath. I didn't become violent.

I played GTA 3 in the same age range, that also didn't make me a violent person.

Fiction... does not cause people to become violent. It does not make people become lascivious. Poor parenting and mental health problems do those things. Yes, you should exercise some caution in what you expose your kids too, obviously they shouldn't be shown porn... but if you raise them right, incidental contact with such stuff shouldn't cause harm to them.

You had good parenting. Awesome.
I have no problem with parents showing their kids stuff. It's about context and making sure that certain lessons are learned, and I totally agree with you on restricting access to porn. It's why my teenagers don't have their own cell phones.

It's where some 'educators' decide that they know better how to raise my kids than I do then HIDE what they are teaching my kids from me while telling my kids not to tell mom and dad. Teach my kid to read, teach my kid math, go for civics and history as well. What they shouldn't do is pretend that the government, via the school, is going to replace family. /end rant

This.

I actually wouldn't mind a basic logic test as a prerequisite for voting - though I think those specific questions are garbage; they are intentionally ambiguous, the exact opposite of good basic skills testing - but grandfathering in one group of people while requiring another to take the test is pretty blatant discrimination.
