Earlier this month, I was talking to a cousin who works in law enforcement in a small San Joaquin Valley "sanctuary" town and lives in the boondocks outside town. She told me that from what she sees personally, and from what info she sees from the local PD, the sheriffs, and the FBI, the area is essentially a dumping ground for the cartels and local gangs, with dead bodies turning up in the fields weekly and even daily. I'm talking dozens, possibly hundreds per year.

This is a solid person whose perspective I trust, but I am going to have to dig up more info. No media on the subject, of course, and apparently nobody at all in government is interested in publicity on the issue.

Oh, they won't give them overly harsh deals either, but as the 'NCR' regulates an bureaucratizes itself ever-further into oblivion, the parts of the state that remained with the USA would steadily sell less and less to them as it became more difficult and less economically viable.

And that's before you even get to the hilarious premium those areas would end up paying to provide their water. And possibly their electricity.
