Hamas Launches Offensive Against Southern Israel

Ground war vs naval war, apples and oranges. Most post cold war armies have really neglected low end air defense in favor of expensive missiles that can kill high performance jets, but that's a bad idea against thousands of drones, no one has that many missiles of this kind, and no one can afford to either.
That's the capability gap drones are really good at exploiting.

But almost every bloody warship comes with a gun based CIWS meant to intercept swarms of AShM's coming at 5-15 times the speed of a drone, guess what will it do to drones.
Not to mention some ships having power supply and antennas giving them EW capabilities beyond anything on land that isn't stationary.
The Russians and your other Eastern neighbors are doing a lot of crazy shit with Iranian drones, dude, and both sides had some advanced anti-air and
Would you like a pony with that too?
I am interested in whatever neocon weed you are smoking, but the unicorns you see are purely a figment of your own imagination. :)

Zach, be serious: Do you really think Iran would gamble and lose it all against Israel and the United States for the most hated group in the Middle-East (well, outside of being Jewish, I guess)? That it'd gamble its essential oil infrastructure? That it doesn't know that the miles on miles of (rumoured?) hidden trenches and fortifications and defence plans it has across the country are ultimately pointless because they'll just get bombed from above and into oblivion?

Iran's government is nuts and fundamentalist; they're not stupid or suicidal.

We know it. They know it.
Eh are they really though? it really would take one fucking True believer in a high position to start shit. at this point if we get a couple more kerfuffles going we will be stretched pretty thin. Wouldn't surprise me if China was fucking around and stirring up shit in some other places too.

I think i have described the problem clearly enough.
Yes, they have *some* advanced air-defense.
But do they have *enough* decent air defense and do they happen to be where the drones are striking?
*some* and *enough* are very different terms here.
For one the land version of ol' Phalanx CIWS was already tested against Iranian drones, and Ukraine has always wanted as many of those as they can get.
Meanwhile warships have several of these, integrated with better sensors, so good luck catching them outside of coverage like it's the case with nearly all the drone strikes on land.

…for starters, who on Earth would be stupid enough to go to war over Palestine of all things, and for seconds I strongly doubt a bunch of Islamic militants with AK-47s are going to defeat the Israeli war machine
Have you not been paying attention?

War is about mass and maneuver. Israel has relied on the maneuver part to defeat its numerically superior enemies in detail. But recent changes have, for now neutralised maneuver, and so we fall back on mass.

In the next war Israel will be facing a hell of cheap drones, missiles, mines and artillery that will neutralise Israels advantages all backed up by a limitless pool and young, driven and disposable youth. Endless Storm Z.

Carrier battlegroups wont be enough to stop it, unless the USA is willing to throw away every ally in the muslim world.

...And why exactly won't Israel be able to just throw more drones, miles, mines, and artillery back at whatever enemy it is that attacks them? Given they have more money, probably throw more of them at the enemy too.

What about the chronic competency problem all Arab armies have?

What about the fact that Israel would not just sit there and let a coalition of Arab states mass drones, missiles, mines, and artillery near its border?

Why are you acting like Israel's enemies are the protagonists in a Bethesda RPG, and Israel is required to just sit there in the boss area and wait for the protagonist to show up at maximum readiness?

I'm not sure which neighboring nations are forming this Coalition for the next War.

There's Syria and... Ummm... Syria.

Maybe that will change in the future but if that's the case these other nations being US allies apparently is certainly peculiar in this hypothetical.

Isn't even Syria still fighting its civil war?

And the fact that if really backed into a corner, Israel will just throw around the instant sunshine.

The Jerusalem Patriarchy of the Catholic Church Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa (wow what a name) offered himself in exchange for children being held as hostage in Gaza.

Seems unlikely to be accepted since innocent children are far superior hostages to the Islamists but quite noble nonetheless.

Yeah, they ain't gonna trade kids for a Cardinal. If they kill a Cardinal it won't hurt the Israelis, nor will it hurt the Catholics, rather, they've just made a True Christian Martyr who will inspire others, rather than make them fear.

It's likely he was fence-sitting and, on seeing the other Arab nations around basically putting their hands up and backing away from this clusterfuck instead of rallying to Hamas' banner, has finally, publicly stated this as the official position because he "read the room", so-to-speak.
The govs & leàders àre bàcking out of this for à very simple reàson...none of them wish to be the next Syrià.

Now there is an example of True Faith. The animals won't accept. They don't want a Martyr inspiring Jews and Christians.

Given the implausible scenario of both Saudi and Iranian oil fields getting burnt, where will the West get their oil then? Or maybe this scenario could be good for America to tap into their own oil fields and produce their own oil for both domestic and international usage then.

Never gonna happen. The environmentalists would go into a tizzy of we started drilling in Alaska in their nature preserves.

If the price of oil jumps by (another) 5x, a lot of people are going to start realizing they aren't as radically green as they thought they were.

Some of the crazy hardliners would still certainly fight it, but just like Germany suddenly started up their coal industry again when the danger of freezing to death and having their economy completely collapse hit, basically every modern nation would suddenly be a lot less tolerant of luxury beliefs when they have less wealth to pay for that luxury.

Hmm. Pizzaballa is quite discreet, but is supposed to be a rising star in the Vatican(he was appointed cardinal less than 20 days ago, and presently is the second youngest member of the College of Cardinals), some people even rate him as a papabile.
