That's part of the game. They won't stick to a definition.

Yeah, the ship being abandoned by it's captain and all hands makes it salvage. That's not done unless you are screwed.
The thing is burning, and if they couldn't get it out, then leaving is the only option.

It'd be better environmentally if it burned all the oil off while afloat, but I doubt the hull can withstand that heat long enough for it to happen.

A tanker spill to add to the mix in the area is a very bad thing, with that many munitions fly around. Hard to do oil abatement procedures while under constant drone/anti-ship attack.

According to this, it was carrying naphtha, not oil, from Russia to Singapore.

..well, that's a mixed bag; naphtha vaporizes better than oil, but might be less environmentally lingering/damaging that straight crude.

So more chance of fire and explosion, less chance of ecodamage ala Exxon Valdez.

The UN court did the right thing. It ordering a stop to wars is beyond its power. But telling nations to be careful and not kill civilians is ok and good.
It's not officially beyond its power, the same court did order Russia to stop the war. Of course, its ability to enforce its decisions is about the same as the city board of San Francisco.

Well, I did not see this coming out of the current conflict, but it's a nice silver lining.

Also makes relations with other nations easier, if their diplo's can now by beer while in Saudi Arabia.

damn. even the muslims are falling to degeneracy
Being able to drink alcohol is not 'degenerate'.

In fact there is large evidence it was cultivation of grains to make beer, not bread, that first resulted in agriculture taking place.

The moronic idea alcohol is a bad thing, that tea tottlers forced on the US during Prohibition and was rightfully removed later, shows trying to ban alcohol never ends well.

In more topical news, the fire on the tanker was put out with the help of the Indian navy ship that rescued the life-boat.

Ecological catastrophe averted.

Legitimacy and law at the end of the day are based on force. Unless the UN becomes a real world government and nations lose their soverignity a UN "court" can't end a war. Israel and Russia are real nations with legitimacy and force and the loyalty of their people. They don't need nor want foreigners to tell them how to conduct themselves. No nation does to be honest.

It worked for 70 years in Saudi Arabia. I personally think the law they had is stupid, because drinking in moderation is ok and there are studies that show that drinking wine occasionally is healthy.

But there are other arguments in favor of getting rid of alcohol since well it does cause a lot of addiction and broken families. So it is complicated.

At the end of the day though I would strenously oppose any law where I live that tries to ban alchol because well my religion requires wine for communion so that is end of story.

"Worked", as far as it works in SA and the rest of the region. Meanwhile better functioning countries all over the world have no alcohol bans since thousands of years.

Are you saying that the reason that Arab nations suck is because of alcohol bans? That’s pretty silly it’s a few reasons from inflexible religions and their culture being tribal so they fracture instead of being loyal to their state and oil merely props them up and is able to hide their faults.
