Trying to tie the border bill to the aid situation was stupid to begin with, and was the source of needless drama on both sides.

Omnibus bills, with massive unrelated provisions in it as 'riders', is part of what is wrong with DC.

I would have preferred they actually separate the various destinations for aid into different bills.

Then why do you support a rider omnibus bill that has resources allocated to three different nations we are friendly with all in different geo political contexts, and one supposedly humanitarian charity case?

Taiwan is different from Gaza is different from Israel is different from Ukraine. They are not American provinces who we are compelled to protect and provide for. Each one should be debated and the merits of aid should be discussed separately for each of them.

Yeah. All the border stuff got chopped off. Now it's just a foreign aid package. This is definitely an improvement (single (or at least singlish) subject bills are always good), but IMO it should still be split by country as well.

For example: if the number is currently on track to be a lot higher than that, keeping it to that number would be an improvement. But I can't speak to the specific reasoning of unknown people.

Also, it's probably worth clarifying that the plan as I understand it wouldn't "allow" people in who would otherwise be "not allowed" but rather had certain things happen (which I remember being characterized as "the border being shut down") if border crossings exceeded 5,000 per day for a week. 5,000 x 365 is about 1.8 million and that's where people are getting the number. But those 5,000 people wouldn't be getting handed visas or anything.
