One thought I'd really like to see explored just for the sheer possibilities would be Superman is recovered and raised by devout Christian monks...the good kind that actually pay attention to the message of Jesus.

Bonus points b/c you could totally bend the woke crowd with this story.

We've already got elseworlds with baby Kal-El's kryptonian space pod landing in England, Medieval Europe, the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany and 14th century feudal Japan. Basically, in your opinion, what're some other options that could make for interesting stories/timelines?

In 18th century Poland, raised by some small gentry who still belived in God&country and treat sefs as people, when all magnates and most gentry looked for whom betray Poland. And almost all treated their sefs as shit.
He would snapp, and made polish Kingdom great and noble again.
Even if he must beat 99% of our nobility to get results.

Northern Africa, a few years before the Tambora eruption.

Simple survival of the fittest right and Superman coming into his powers right after the closest thing to extinction humanity has come to in a long time (~2-10,000 surviving humans) suggests that by modern times, most of humanity would be part-Kryptonian.

To expand, Brutus was reputedly an honorable man who wished to preserve the Republic and restore it to its pre-triumvirate balance. Superman as his adopted son makes his side's victory in the civil war inevitable, but his victories and longevity warp the politics of the Republic around him worse than Julius Caesar ever did. He must resolve his adoptive father's vision of the restored Republic with people wanting to put him in charge because he's safe or because they can't believe he doesn't have an ambition to rule and want to be on the winning side. This is a dilemma Supes can't punch his way out of, and when he punches his way out of the problems he can punch his way out of (like migrating barbarian tribes) he makes Rome more dependent on him which makes the central dilemma worse.

Because I think Supes adheres to his adoptive father's dream of restoring the Republic long after everyone else considers him a god-king.

Why not have him land in the Despotate of Morea in the 1410's or 1420's? It would certain be interesting to see what antics he would then get up to...

Only if there was kryptonite in the iron ore of the blade...

Maybe the Moyles (sp?) had to go through a hundred or so blades before they found one that worked, and that became the blade of God. Holy relic, and thus evidence that "SuperJew" can be hurt, but only something given from God can do so..maybe a connotation that it also must be wielded by a holy man.

Butterfly: a secret order of Jewish Rabi's that monitor Superman for heresy and are empowered by God to deal with a Superman that falls to sin.

Can his foreskin even be sliced off?
Traditionally much of his superpowers didn't immediately appear, only developing over time and exposure to the sun.

As such, if it was done immediately upon his adoption he would probably be susceptible to it.

However, given who created Superman, I'm pretty sure Kryptonians practiced circumcision anyway, so it's a moot point, and he was likely circumcized by his parents before they even put him in the pod. :p

Superman in Ancient Greece.

Ancient Greece was the Hatfields and McCoys writ large. He can't be everywhere at once and will go nuts trying to keep a lid on the bickering.

Maybe this is where Zeus/Jupiter comes from. Supes just gets tired of dealing with it and moves his ass to the top of the highest mountain he can find for some peace and quiet. Maybe takes his Louis Lane with him (Hera), but goes off to meet other mortals and father some bastards (he's Greek after all).

Superman landing in the Amazon as Teddy Roosevelt is doing his jungle trek.

A Bull Moose raised Superman would be a sight to see.

How would you handle the heritability of his powers?

I'd be inclined to treat them as recessive: his kids don't get them but a couple generations down the line some of his superpowers start popping up here and there in the form of unruly kids who got lucky.

I'd have no problem with them being heritable to some degree depending upon the final Kryptonian/Homo Sapiens cocktail. So Hercules!

Or Icarus getting flight and ignoring Daedalus telling him "Don't get too close to the Sun."

Myth: The wax wings he has get too hot, melt, and he goes splat.

Here: He passes out in high altitude freezing cold air and goes splat.

Hopefully he's raised by the Thebans, Epamonidas and those Northern bumpkins would be the closest facsimile to the Kents in the 4th Century BC or so. It'd make Epamonidas and the Thebans campaign that broke the power of Sparta and their Helot based slavocracy all the more epic... and well remembered.
