I think he's seeing the writing on the wall and is trying to pull back as much as possible.
The MCU is crashing and burning, and what used to be a mark of great prestige (to direct an MCU project) is now becoming a reputational "loose noose" that could tighten real soon.
I don't think things are completely doomed, but Marvel does need to address this quickly... it DOES seem like they are. Blade is getting pushed back again due to it having been about some weird story about women empowerment and not Blade, and Daredevil is going back to the drawing board.
I really don't think there's "superhero fatigue" either it's more just... shitty movie and characters I don't care about fatigue. I'm BEYOND pumped for Deadpool. I can't wait for Fantastic Four, X-Men, Daredevil... there's all kinds of awesome things I can't wait for. But they've been more interested in shoving crap out instead.
Even with all that though, I still think by and large the MCU is... pretty good post-Endgame. It's not the same, but it's still good.
Far From Home was a fairly solid Spiderman movie.
Black Widow was... fine. It was kind of unnecessary and the time had passed for it, but it wasn't bad.
Shang Chi was pretty cool.
Eternals was garbage, could have been ok if they made it a show instead.
Far From Home was great, up there towards the top of my MCU picks.
Dr. Strange was pretty cool, I enjoyed it.
Thor... was an oddball in that as a film, it was kind of a mess but... I liked it. I enjoyed the shit out of the Love and Thunder.
Wakanda Forever was weak.
Ant-Man I actually liked too... it gets shit on alot but I don't see it. It was a fun movie.
Marvels REALLY wasn't a terrible movie. It's just one of those movies you should only do wedged inbetween really good things.
Wandavision was fantastic.
Loki was fantastic.
Falcon and Winter Soldier was cool enough.
She-Hulk was a disaster.
By and large, the batting average is still pretty good.
