People who immigrate to the US aren't Americans when they get here. It takes awhile before they can say that they are American.

Yeah, but you know what he means. Which is to say, the immigrants work hard, learn the language, and assimilate in a timely manner, while not making trouble for the natives and, if they must, contributing bits and pieces of their traditions (such as food) that are compatible with an American cultural framework, so that their host country receives the best of both worlds. (Again, changing the law to accommodate Sharia Law going against our founding values and what have you... )

If this were true, then you would have to explain why certain communities suddenly gained a sudden mutation for ending up single parents, where it wasn't common before. There are likely certain heritable psychological traits that will increase the chance that an individual ends up single, most of those would decrease the chances that they have children in the first place, which would make a sudden increase in such traits within a population extremely unlikely.

Single parenthood was presumably much more frowned upon in the past, so someone who is likely to be one nowadays would have been much less likely to be one in the past.

The problem is that some opt in for the welfare state. That's why the welfare state needs to go.
