A pitbull can be a good dog. They just need an owner who knows what the fuck they are doing. There are no bad dogs, just bad owners.
In reality, I think the fundamental problem is that there's a lot more cases of the
wrong dog than public perception suggests. Pitbulls were bred to quite literally short-circuit their threat response so as to make dog-fighting as prompt as possible, resulting in a behavior profile that is essentially "Perfect Nightmare Scenario For Pet Owners" because they
jump from barely-perceptible agitation to biting without overt threat displays.
One moment, they're slightly shying away from the kid. The very next, they're biting his face off. In between, there is no barking or growling. That's simply how their instincts got Smashed and Slammed for blood sport.
