Weirdly enough society's major role is sort of the opposite.

If people aren't content, they get uppity. When people get uppity, they start killing people who piss them off. Usually leading roles, those sorts of people go first.

Society however aims to keep people content, give them wives, food, hobbies and they'll leave you alone to do whatever evil things you have going on in the background.
